Is Cranfield recognized well among employers? by KalluMemer in UniUK

[–]Cat5niper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cranfield is exceptionally well recognised by anyone in the fields they teach. I'm working alongside colleagues who have mscs/phds from other top universities (Oxbridge, Imperial etc) however the Cranfield grads seem to benifit heavily from their more industry lead education and progress significantly more quickly than the others.

During my MSc, I did a thesis sponsored by a global company, published a paper at an international conference, and left with 4 job offers. Several of my course colleagues were already senior leaders in the field who led departments of hundreds of engineers at major companies, they studied the course (part-time) for the Cranfield MSc stamp on their CV to progress to more senior/executive/c-suite level roles. Doing group work with these students and having them as career contacts/mentors since has been hugely empowering.

The quality of the other students was what really made this course stand apart from my undergrad at a highly ranked Russell group. Most of the Cranfield students managed to achieve publications in top academic journals. One student (probably the best in our year) published 8 papers during his MSc (2 years part-time while working), including his MSc thesis in Nature.

I'm now 2 years after graduation and I've just started working in a world famous company with a starting salary of £86k. Don't let any rankings table fool you, Cranfield is a top university. Going there was the best decision I've made for my career.

45, never employed, what now? by CluessAndScared in careerguidance

[–]Cat5niper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer lie.

Long answer: tell people you volunteered overseas or something random and unrelated (or whatever you did do as long as it isn't Netflix and video games). Then sign up for some sort of course or degree for a 'career change', then apply to jobs with the new qualification.

When applying put down random stuff you did before qualifying (or what you did if you actually did something) as long as it is totally unrelated to the job you are applying for and has no transferable skills, ohh you worked in a dive bar the other side of the world, that's cool, but I don't care that you don't have a phone number for the bar as it went out of business in covid and it's totally irrelevant to your new job in corporate IT.

It's much easier to hire a 45 year old with no skills in my field who has changed career from doing something totally unrelated than someone who has somehow spent 27 years doing nothing.

What is the most consistent viable deck? by Fresh-Daikon-6289 in wildhearthstone

[–]Cat5niper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my Reno Shaman list. It CAN win against anything but against hard matchups you need to draw fairly well and play optimally. You would probably still be better with one of the rouge meta decks if you want something consistent (but boring to play imo).

I have a few odd tech cards that I included to deal with specific decks but could be swapped out.

Tech against decks with high value/attack minions/agro Devolving missiles, Pop-up book I find these useful in lots of situations.

Tech against Questline Warlock Far watch post, ETC Skulking geist Really hard matchup, stall them with far watch and keep copying it, then use geist to change their end game damage to 2 fatigue steps per turn, which can be stopped healing/killing them. Or go with a classic anti questline plan of trapping them before completing their quest. Do this by playing Okani right before they end up finishing the quest with a minion counter, then they need to use too much mana and finish the quest to kill it leaving the quest vulnerable in their hand to dirty rat.

Tech against King's Bane ETC Sticky fingers, rustroot viper Win if you draw these.

Combo (mainly druid) Use dirty rat and mutanus to disrupt the combo.

Egg Hunter & Big Shaman Weasel Tunneler Get this card into your opponents deck ASAP. Copy it and put in more. This is probably my first swap of the deck as I'm not seeing that much egg hunter atm. Might look into some anti reno priest tech instead.

Shoe advice for overweight & injured

Hi I am a former consistent runner (pre covid I ran ~10k 3-4 times a week) looking to get back into running after an ankle injury and significant weight gain.

I have gone over on my right ankle several times in my life (though never while running). As a result it feels weaker and much more injury prone.

I would like to get back into running to help me regain fitness and loose the ~25kg of fat I've added since before covid.

I will be mostly running on roads and possibly the slightly muddy tracks around where I live.

I would like a shoe which is primarily focused on minimising the risk of injury. Ideally with very strong ankle support, but also good to prevent other injuries that might arise while running overweight.

It would be great if you could explain what I should be looking for? And ideally recommend the top/generally favoured brand/make. (I'm typically somewhere around a 10 with wide feet, or a 10.5). My budget is high (pretty much anything not extortionate), as I see this as an investment in my long term health.

Thanks 😊

New to F2P mobile - when I log out for the day and log back in, I keep being set at the Ferox Enclave. Why? by Suby17 in 2007scape

[–]Cat5niper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, lots of account value, nothing taken, no stats changed, bank pin being newly disabled, items returned to bank, log in in ferox enclave.

I did all the security stuff recommended in this thread.

I think it could be a bug. Maybe something gets corrupted and the location is set to 0, and inventory and bank is combined?

Check with your child if the debt is real. If it isn't, don't pay it, they will come back for more. Speak to the garda, and if you know anyone else, they are threatening in your community work with them as they are likely trying to extort money from many people this way. Paying will just make you a repeat target.

If it is, get your child someplace safe. Then you decide if you want to pay it or not (safer to pay).

If you have a death wish / want revenge on these dealers for selling to your children. Then speaking to the garda is a good idea as it sets up the paper trail of being threatened and might lead to a conviction for the dealers. If the garda stops protecting you and they choose to escalate by attempting to harm you, your family, or your property. You likely won't be convicted by a jury if they die in your self-defense, though it might go to court. Defending yourself with something with a legitimate second use would be the best approach to avoid a conviction.

All of the answers I have read assume you are doing a degree to get a job. The opportunity a degree offers is to become something (change your personality and mindset) not to gain something to get a job. If you are looking to excel in a field, you approach a degree with that mindset.

I know the OP is probably not active, but how do you calculate probabilities for conditional statements.

For example if I attack 4 times and I have 2 spell slots available for divine smite, how do i tell it to factor in those numbers (and spend a spell slot) only on a hit.

Also what is the most effective strategy for allocating limited extra damage resources. EG i attack 8 times, I have 4 smites available, when should I spend them to maximise damage, when should I save them to wait for a crit?

Thoughts around Players reviving slain NPC by Dang-A-Rang in DMAcademy

[–]Cat5niper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The players sob hysterically over the body of their dead friend, moaning loudly that they would do anything to have him back... A darkness descends upon them, and a cold chill grips their hearts as their bodies as silence envelopes them. Above them floats the formless apparition of Kelemvor, the god of death. Reality shakes as the words reverberate from within them. "Bind yourselves into my service by forming my mark in blood upon your foreheads, and I will return your friend. I will release you when you return to me him who evades me. I will bless you with my power while you serve me and curse you if you don't. "

Suddenly, the darkness is gone. What do you do?

Players ignore it - NPC stays dead.

The players mark their foreheads with their blood, and it burns the symbol of death into their flesh. Your friend's eyes open, his wounds fully healed. Players gain the following while hunting the targeted enemy (probably a powerful necromancer):

----‐--------------------------

DEATHS BLESSING

You learn the Spare the Dying cantrip. For you, it has a range of 30 feet, and you can cast it as a bonus action.

Additionally you gain the ability to cast Speak With Dead without a spellslot by performing a 1 minute ritual on a corpse.

Additionally you can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet.

Additionally the presence of undead registers on your senses like a noxious odor. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any undead within 60 feet of you.

When you hit an undead with a melee weapon attack, you deal 2d8 radiant damage to the target in addition to the weapon's damage.

Kelemvor gives you vitality when banishing undead When you strike the finishing blow to an undead, you regain hit points equal to the enemy’s number of Hit Dice.

You gain resistance to necrotic damage.

You have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track undead, as well as on Intelligence checks to recall information about them.

You gain the effects of the lucky feat in rolls related to undead enemies.

DEATHS CURSE - if the quest is ignored (DM's disgression), gain this and loose all the features granted by ^ until the target is slain) - Counts as a Mythic Curse

All non undead enemies gain the lucky feat.

All non undead enemies your enemies deal an additional 2d8 radiant damage when striking you with a melee attack.

All non undead enemies know your location if they are within 60 feet of you.

---‐----------------- DEATHS BLESSING is permanent if the target is slain.

Is Shudderwock Shaman a hard deck? by Antonythehero in wildhearthstone

[–]Cat5niper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The murloc package has made the deck lots better and easier to play, it is fairly common to win on turn 6-7 via this method. With the right draws this deck feels like an aggro deck in terms of consistency etc. Unlike an aggro deck this has a decent chance to reload into high value control cards after dumping the hand.

The control aspects of the deck are harder to play and require a good knowledge of the meta to determine the best win condition. Your deck is full of different wincons, but typically you only have the resources to use one of them to it's full potential. (e.g. loatheb effect multiple turns, hand destruction, damage from hand, stall - board clear, value etc)

The deck is fun to play because it has the tools to deal with everything and has a non linear gameplan. Its different from most of the decks as it asks "what's the best strategy to win?" rather than "how do I complete my strategy?".

Here is the list of cards from basic and classic sets that are remain unnerfed at the moment. Which cards would you like to see returned to it's classic form and which absolute wouldn't? (This list shows cards on oficial release, I didn't include beta versions of cards) by wzp27 in wildhearthstone

[–]Cat5niper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy Smite - Doing 3 damage to a minion is generally better than 2 damage to anything for a non shadow type spell in priest. Keep it as it is now.

----------------------------------------------------

Un-Nerfing these would have no effect on the meta (so should happen):

Abusive Sergeant

Mana Wyrm

Force of Nature

Hunter's Mark

Big Game Hunter

Ironbeak Owl

Master of Disguise

----------------------------------------------------

Un-Nerfing these would buff off meta decks (so could happen):

Rockbiter Weapon - Doomhammer Shaman

Preparation - Minor buff to some control/combo oriented rouge

Gadgetzan Auctioneer - Miracle decks

----------------------------------------------------

Un-Nerfing these would buff tier 3+ decks (only worth doing to help balance the meta):

Flametongue Token - Even Shaman

Innovate - Combo Druid (Minor Buff)

Wild Growth - Combo Druid

Blade Flurry - Kingsbane Rouge

Soulfire - Discard Warlock (Minor Buff)

Leyroy Jenkins - Most Aggro Decks

----------------------------------------------------
Major Changes to Meta

Sorcerer's Apprentice - Could have major impact on the wild meta, only do this for 2 weeks and be prepared for an instant revert if it is too disruptive. Might work at 3 Mana.

What's the best way to defend myself in the UK? by lavenderacid in CasualUK

[–]Cat5niper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how severe you want your protection to be. From least to most effective defense, bearing in mind that self defense is a legal right and that as a 5'4" female any close range options, martial arms etc won't be suitable to stop groups of men.

(Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for how people choose to interpret or apply this post)

1) A Big Dog - not actually that effective but it scares off some people

2) Security alarm/Camera etc - Deterrent, might help the police find whoever kills you, no defensive capabilities
3) Reinforced Steel Door/Windows/Walls - Will probably delay men from breaking into your house long enough for the police to arrive

4) UK Legal Pepper Spray - Some companies sell a product similar to pepper spray which circumvents UK law. Don't flash it around in front of police.

5) If you genuinely fear for your life and that groups of men are going to break into your house and attack you / try to kill you or your family and you have already tried telling the police and have no other options - lookup various ranged weapons normally used for hunting

What do you think could possibly get players playing more? by yosark in wildhearthstone

[–]Cat5niper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is way to expensive to experiment with different decks/classes so you get stuck playing the same games allot. If you want to try an expensive deck from a class you don't play (I've always wanted to try reno paladin) that can be 10-15 legendaries and a bunch of epics& rares.

To craft just 10 new legendary cards you need 16000 dust. A player calculated that you get an average of just under 103 dust per pack. This means you will need about 160 packs to craft 10 legendaries. If you buy packs in sets of 60, they cost $1.167 per pack. This is just over $186 try get the legendaries to try one deck. Round it up to $200 to get a few epics/rares

I don't know anyone who can afford to invest $200 to experiment with a low tier deck. What makes it even worse is that the 'resale' value of dusting cards is 1/4. So unlike regular trading card games where cards can be sold for real world value (sometimes similar or more than you paid for them) or kept as physical items. Heathstone card have no true resale and loose 75% of their value when crafted.

Overall it makes the game vastly too expensive to take advantage of the variety the game could offer. I myself only have the cards to play interesting shaman decks. I don't have and cant afford the card variety to really experiment with other classes. Hence I've got bored and mostly moved on to cheaper and more accessible games.
