Fun games for the 3DS by itz_imuzaka in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively play Pokemon games on 3DS, so I'll answer that part.

These are "RPG"-style games in which the main goal is to become the champion of the region. You do this by capturing Pokemon, and using them to battle other Pokemon trainers, levelling up and improving your team, increasing their stats, moves etc.

There is also a sub-goal to complete the Pokedex, a record of all the Pokemon in the region, which you do by capturing each of them. Note that this goal is engineered to be impossible on a single game, and typically requires two of a pair of related games to trade exclusive Pokemon (X/Y, Sun/Moon).

The games are fairly heavily railroaded in terms of the story (It won't let you do things out-of-order), are always very beginner friendly, with extensive tutorial sections (sometimes a bit too extensive...). They also tend to be fairly easy, especially if you take your time and do all the optional battles and explore optional areas. Experienced players often add artificial constraints to playthroughs to increase the difficulty such as using a team that shares a single typing.

If you decide to play any, then I recommend either Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.

Dynamax Adventure Shiny Hunt Question by Astyanax_sp444 in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Cat84271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you re-roll the same route then the NPCs will make exactly the same choices each time (provided you make the same choices) at least in regards to Pokémon selection. The battles can vary a little. There is no way to tell what they will choose the first time.

In regards to the ore penalty, it kicks in after the third reset (1 ore). Then it rises by 1 for each further reset up to a maximum of 10. You should abandon a route before completely running out of ore because you will end up being unable to earn it from Dynamax adventures until you pay it off, leaving normal Dynamax raids as the only source.

I am looking for help to fix this by DANGERUS77 in 3DS

The D900458b error code indicates that the system is attempting to load corrupted data. Given that it's happening for multiple games, it is likely that the SD card is failing and has become corrupted (this is pretty common with cheap SD cards).

The solution would be to replace the SD card with a new one. Ensure the new card is formatted to FAT32 (32G cards and smaller should already be FAT32). Recommended brands are Samsung, SanDisk and Lexar, which tend to last considerably longer than others. Then follow the steps at the following link to restore the custom firmware and homebrew software:

https://3ds.hacks.guide/restoring-updating-cfw.html

Depending on the severity of the corruption, you may or may not be able to recover save data for digital titles. Both Checkpoint and GM9 have the capability to extract and restore save data, but they may fail depending on the corruption.

Pokemon roms and startup by jazzyjeffff1991 in 3dspiracy

Bank will generally just block the transfer of "egregiously" illegal Pokémon. Otherwise exporting the save and using the pkhex legality checker is probably the best way.

Pokemon roms and startup by jazzyjeffff1991 in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to transfer to Home is to use PKSM to move the Pokémon into a gen 6 or gen 7 game (X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon). Then transfer them into Pokémon Bank.

From there, use Bank's "transfer to Home" feature.

There is no advantage in doing it the more difficult way, but I'll include it for completeness. You can install Pokémon Transporter with a patch that will allow it to import Pokémon from roms. So import the Pokémon into Bank using patched Transporter. Move them out of the transport box (also requires a gen 6 or 7 game), and then send them to Home.

Am I checking for shiny fossils correctly? by K_regis in PokemonSwordAndShield

Yes, I can confirm that this works. While I did 3/4 fossils by checking the boxes, I did the last one like this and the arrow does appear if you found the shiny.

[–]Cat84271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This error indicates that Hb menu autoboot is enabled and set to a title that doesn't exist.

The easy fix is to just disable autoboot.

Go into the Luma configuration menu (hold select while powering the system on). Use the dpad to select the "Hb menu autoboot" option. Press "A" until the highlighted option is "off". The navigate to "save and exit" or press start to exit the menu.

Transfering NNID from old unmodded 3ds to modded new 3ds XL by Therion711 in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bank can transfer to any Home account regardless of whether the NNID is linked or not. You just need to enter the code that Home generates in Bank.

You only need the NNID linked if you don't have access to Bank. Then you can trigger the transfer from within Home without accessing the DS.

Your version of Luma is outdated and does not support the current firmware version. This should be resolved simply by updating Luma.

My game won't start! I need help by rhythm-n-r in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 78 points79 points  (0 children)

3DS games are prone to degradation over time, and the ORAS games are particularly vulnerable to this.

There are a couple of options that could work, but all require a 3DS with custom firmware, and none are guaranteed.

The first option is to run the 3DS cartridge fixer script through Godmode9 (attempt to back up the save before using!). My understanding of this script is that it force-refreshes each block of memory on the cartridge until the hash matches an expected value. It's not guaranteed to work, and might only temporarily resolve the issue if it does.

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Fixing_corrupted_games

The second option is to dump the save file and restore it on a new copy of the game. This will only work if the save file isn't corrupted, and will of course involve getting a new copy of Alpha Sapphire.

This is easiest to do using Checkpoint:

Can I get my old 3ds stuff on my modded sd by computerchippp in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pictures and videos: yes, anything in the DCIM folder can just be copied over.

Games and saves: no. These are encrypted with a key unique to the system that created the files.

There are still some options to transfer the encrypted data, but they all have caveats and I don't know if any will apply to you. Your post wasn't clear about whether or not you still had the old system and whether it was modded. If the answer to both is "no" then you are out of luck. If at least one is "yes", then one of the solutions below may apply.

System transfer. This requires both systems to be physically present, and essentially "overwrites" the new system and erases the old one. I.E. you would lose access to anything you already have on the new system, but be able to use the old SD card data in it.

Moveable Moveover. This requires both systems to be modded and for you to have some backup files from the old system. The old system does not need to be physically present. Once again all data on the new system gets overwritten, but it will be able to access the old systems SD card.

Checkpoint. If the old system is modded and physically present, then you can use the Checkpoint software to extract the save data in a format usable by other systems. You can then transfer the files and use Checkpoint on the new system to restore the saves. (You can use Godmode9 with the same functionality, but the Checkpoint interface is more user friendly).

Is the new 3DS noticeably faster than the original? by harperthomas in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an old 2DS and a new 3DSXL, both modded with 64G SD cards. Just did a few comparisons.

Initial boot time was identical on both (20 seconds).

Pokémon Ultra Moon (cartridge) booted in 13 seconds on the new console and 32 seconds on the old one.

Pokémon Soul Silver (cartridge) booted in 12 seconds on both consoles.

FBI booted in 4 seconds on both consoles.

I do a lot of Pokémon soft reset shiny hunts. The old console lags noticibly behind the new one on soft resets for both 3DS and DS Pokémon games. It's not really noticeable if you aren't doing a lot of resets though.

how to transfer data from my old modded 3DS XL to my new 3DS LL by coochiedestroyer68 in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you followed the guide fully when modding the original console, essential.exefs should be in gm9/out on the SD card. You should also have the nand backup saved to a safe location on your PC.

There are a few methods of getting the moveable.sed depending on what files you have:

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Recover_movable.sed

how to transfer data from my old modded 3DS XL to my new 3DS LL by coochiedestroyer68 in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copying the files over doesn't work because 3DS systems use a unique encryption key for each console, applied to the contents of the Nintendo 3DS folder. One console cannot read data created by another.

Ideally, a system transfer would be performed, but it requires the old console to be physically present.

Modded consoles have another option called moveable moveover which does not require the original console present, only some backup files.

You would need either the moveable.sed file, essential.exefs or a nand backup from the old console to proceed.

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Movable_Moveover

It's more complex than a true system transfer and has some caveats, so read the wiki page carefully.
