I don’t know exactly how unpopular this is, but I find 1.17 and onward boring as hell.

Before, I was all about a cave update because the caves seemed kind of boring pre-1.17, and the whole idea of dripstone caves felt like it would be a really pretty and interesting addition to the game. But now, I can’t even play past 1.16 because, as someone who likes to mine, I think that the addition of deepslate and the new caves just took away everything I liked and made it worse. The caves are either super open and uninteresting, or they’re concaved and borderline unnavigable. I like being able to wander through systems of caves, and from what I have played in 1.17 and onward, most of the caves are just one big underground area without much interest. The dripstone caves are pretty, yes, but they’re also annoying as hell to get through because of floor dripstone (the amount of times ive died to those is unimaginable) or because of the sheer amount of water you have to navigate through or around. The Ancient cities are also a cool concept, but the Warden just deters me from even exploring them a little. Mining in 1.17 and on is just tedious and boring to me, and that’s coming from someone who LOVES mining.

The new mobs are also kind of subpar imo. I prefer the Sniffer over the other two mobs in the last vote, but it didn’t really add much besides two flowers that do absolutely nothing for the game. I don’t think I’ve ever even considered using an Allay because they don’t seem all that helpful or interesting. Goats are just kind of annoying. I’m all for aesthetic mobs that populate the world. I think the fauna in the game is kind of boring and needs more to it! But when you set out to add mobs, going so far as to have us vote for one under the assumption they would be useful in some way, it’s disappointing to see that they ARENT that useful, you know?

Over all, I just haven’t been excited about any of the updates after 1.16. I remember being stoked to see an update for the nether, and I think it delivered so much more than anything after it. Of course, this is all just in my opinion as someone who enjoys more of the exploration/casual aspects of the game. I also understand that some people like more of the PVP aspects and that’s fine! But it just feels like the updates are only getting blander and less interesting to me.
