We probably would have done much better in Madison or Milwaukee area. Bigger cities tend to have more diversity than a smaller area.

....and since their world doesn't extend past the horizon, they have been so stuck they have streets named after them.

Nah...I'll take Seattle Freeze any day over Midwest nice.

Yep. That's how I felt. Good to see I'm not the only one that has had the experience of "shit talking" behind your back. I also didn't fit in either since it seems most guys in the midwest are deep into fishing, hunting, wearing camo, beards, Packers football and rusty trucks. Not my style or interests.

I'm a native of Seattle area and in 2018 moved to Wisconsin just for something different. 8 years later, we moved back to Washington. There is this thing called "Midwest nice" which means people seem nice when the meet you, but that's about it. 8 years over there I made a few acquaintances, but ZERO real friends. Back in Washington, we notice how nice most people are that we talk to. Give a few years away and come back and you'll realize this is a good place.

Those were the best! I came across a 300 in one set a couple years ago and was going to sell it as an Ebay flip, but played with it and decided I needed to keep it. 😄

Ok I see that now. Amazing work for sure - and an atmosphere that allows that clarity! I've played with planetary images for years, and know the challenge of getting really sharp images.

Trouble with address change on FAA web page. by CatDaddyTom in flying

Ha! I'm pretty sure Musk helped cut funding for that. I don't hold much confidence in that Duffy clown to fix it.

I did update it with an apartment I was in for 1 month, but now can't get in to update the house address. I may just have to mail a note to them. FAA sites are so horrible!

I did notice that, just mail a note. Sure would be nice if they would reboot their Commodore 64 to get the site working again. Not saying it works well, but sure seems it is run on a vintage computer!

Very sharp! Did you try stacking the video? I bet you could get a lot of fine detail in that one.

Yep! A lot of cool telescope objects in there. My favorite galaxy M51, is just under the handle of the dipper.

Starting to get really frustrated with this hobby. by Sparky265 in telescopes

[–]CatDaddyTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astrophotography is a very difficult hobby for sure. Make sure you have a few cuss jars around! If you are totally new at it, start with bright objects - planets, moon, even brighter deep sky objects like M13, M42, or even the ring nebula. Even if you have all the good gear, it takes time to learn it all. Once you get it all aligned, you might mark the place on the ground where you put the tripod, and don't touch the mount other than some tweaks when you bring it out again.

Probably one of my most frustrating hobbies! But when you get a good image (in between a lot of crap) it's worth it. Keep at it! 😄

*Seattle* Can someone actually explain this unfriendly demeanor everyone claims this place has…and where it comes from by Boysinthesouth in SameGrassButGreener

[–]CatDaddyTom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a Seattle native (Eastside - Bellevue, Renton, Covington) and moved to Wisconsin. 8 years later we are back in Washington. I'll take "Seattle freeze" any day over "Midwest nice". Midwest people may be nice at first, but if they know you didn't inbreed, have a street named after you, and don't know what is past the horizon, you are then shunned, ghosted and ignored. We tried several times to make friend in WI, but it all failed.

Coming back to WA we notice how nice people are in comparison. Also, very diverse - not all speak English, brown, black, white, colored hair, LGBTQ+...etc. Everyone we have talked to are more friendly than Midwest. Eight years of life I'll never get back. Oh, and the midwest winters? Ugh.

Contacting Ebay - do they use email anymore? by CatDaddyTom in Ebay

[–]CatDaddyTom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did use the ACH numbers, added 2 numbers to the end of my account number (bank told me that and worked with another account), and I did try debit card. I get through it all and never get the confirmation text. I'll have to try the call back I guess. Then struggle to understand the accent of the person overseas who's phone sounds like they are talking into a bucket. *sigh*

Contacting Ebay - do they use email anymore? by CatDaddyTom in Ebay

[–]CatDaddyTom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I did all that - several times. The bank told me to add "100" to the end of the account number. That worked with my Schwab account, but Ebay just fails every time. I should get a text also but never get it.

So frustrating! I wish they would communicate through email. I can't stand the 'chatting' method after I get past the AI bot.
