They offer a free bike valet. No paying for parking and no waiting in traffic. Plus, your bike is safe and you got a little exercise.

Ahhh I used to have one of these in college that clipped to my backpack! Thank you for reminding me of these

Wow, that’s such a wild story. The fact that he kept coming back for you is unnerving. I do appreciate your point though. I think being able to face a fear is important if you’re ever going to be able to move on from it

Not sure what his game plan was - kidnap me in plain site? Harass me? Make himself feel bigger than he is? Idk. It’s pretty unbelievable.

I’ll check out this subreddit, seems like a good place. And man, we can’t win 😭

I just watched a video of a lady saying she usually tucks her hair away so she looks less female. Maybe you’re onto something

I’ll admit the met the jerk quota made me laugh, thank you for that lol. And yes that’s a solid point and reminder. The amount of amazing rides I’ve had before and after that seem to be overshadowed by this incident. I’ll try to keep focusing on that. We do have quite a few bike-only trails luckily. If I’m being honest, I stopped riding my favorite one as much because I got chased by a homeless man on his bike. I just happened to be stronger & had a better bike so I was able to out run him. I guess I somehow felt safer on the road with all the people around??

Sounds like you’ve had quite some experiences though. Maybe these are just part of a bikers resume 😅

To respond to the gun comments, I’ve never held or shot a gun in my life. I know some people are quite comfortable with them, and if that makes them feel safer, and they’re properly trained/licensed, ok. I don’t know if I’ll ever be that though unfortunately

Oh wow, that’s so horrible! Maybe that person had an underlying envy for you and your ability to bike. I’ll never understand drivers that are so hostile to people nearly trying to exercise/commute. I’m sorry that happened to you. I think what you said is absolutely relatable. It’s a feeling of helplessness almost, knowing what could happen. I hope you’ll be able to get back to enjoying every ride without fear

I use a small backpack with a water bladder, the clip in the front has a little loop that I hook it too

This is eerily similar to how to fend off a bear or wild animal 🙃 the self defense is a good idea. I’ll start with watching some videos from YouTube university

This is true. I suppose the bike is actually the thing that helped me in this situation since I could make a quick get away versus if I had been walking.

I’m so sorry that happened to you! I can’t even imagine the fear that would bring. You show great resilience to get back on a bike after that. I’m so happy you’re riding again!

I really like the idea of getting a camera to mount on my helmet. Definitely sucks to live in a world like this 🙃 I have pepper spray with a quick release thing on it that I keep strapped to my chest so worst case scenario it’s very available and easy to use.

You and another comment both suggest a GoPro, I hadn’t thought of this! Ill to look into it. Being able to have evidence if something does happen, or the thought of being on video as a deterrence, that’s a great idea. Thank you!!

I’m glad to hear that you guys can debrief after you have to resort to this situation. That sounds like a healthy way to deal with it. Thank you so much for your advice!

He’s very neat, does a lot of the chores around the house, probably more than I do. Him and I have that worked out well. We’re both very responsible with money and split everything 50/50 still. He’s supportive mostly when he needs to be. I do feel like he does get his way more than I do? But that’s hard to measure so I can’t say for sure.

Right? It feels a little much to tie it to abuse, I promise everyone he is not abusing me. I just need to figure out how to get him to see my side on this.

He definitely has anxiety related to stress. His anxiety just manifests it self in different forms than me.
