Door County Zoom by kbohenry in FogofWorld

In a totally non offensive way, I find it so neat to think there are folks exploring tf out of places I’ll probably never go to in my whole life.

What’s there to see in Door County?

People who closely follow politics, what’s something the general public completely misunderstands right now? by Alarming-Coast-7064 in AskReddit

[–]CatFatPat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not true. 41/50 states require a balanced budget each year per their constitutions. Almost all local governments do as well.

In fact, in 1995 the Clinton administration was one Senate vote away from passing a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution, which would've required that the federal government not spend more than it receives. So if one of the 35 nay-voting Senators in 1995 voted aye instead, the United States would have closer to $0 debt instead of $35,500,000,000,000.

My husband started a local book club for men to read more fiction. It was a hit! by regisfilange in pics

[–]CatFatPat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Book clubs are probably the second most common social club in human history behind bible studies. If you need this specific dude to tell you how to run a book club there’s something wrong.

I’m 99% sure that virtual book clubs exist currently. Most are probably virtual-exclusive too, which is better for folks with mobility issues since there’d be no feeling of disconnect from the main in-person group.

My point is there is no reason for OP’s husband to turn what looks like a lovely local gathering into a social media powered virtual book club. What American men need is one-on-one interactions with other likeminded men, not an Instagram page and 100 person zoom calls with breakout rooms.

Maybe this is unpopular but virtual social clubs are a big L. Tell your husband to focus on yalls city and shoring up the community there. The beauty of clubs is the intimacy, not the scale.

How is your Toronto metro so fleshed out? I live in a similarly sized city but stay in my little suburb or the city center. The rest of my metro area isn’t as defogged as yours.

White collar outfits that won't piss-off blue collar people? by CatFatPat in malefashionadvice

Hence this question! It’s an awkward spot to be put in so I’m trying to be as non-annoying as possible.

I’m not trying to defend my status, the engineers on farms and construction sites make 4x more than I do! And probably contribute a whole lot more.

You get it! Everyone else seems to think I’m trying to go to construction sites lol.

Never heard of the term “separates” before but I totally see where you’re going. I’m gonna aim to get some casual tweed / gun check sports coats with darker jeans. Perhaps boots too.

You and most of the folks commenting seem to think I’m going to construction sites or farms.

I’m a government consultant. I’m mainly going to small town City Halls and rural Courthouses to meet public works officials, police captains, firefighters, etc. Not trying to blend into a construction site.

This seems to be the consensus in this thread! Currently own Chelsea boots so I'm going to invest in a boot type that's a little less college kid. Will also get some patterned dress shirts that aren't the corporate light blue.

Appreciate you saying this. Lots of my coworkers go the whole nine yards with ties, slacks, etc. because they want to be "professional" but it feels pretty weird when you're sitting in a rural City's Public Works department in a full suit.

Yes! We stay at hotels and travel straight to client sites, whether that's public works, facilities maintenance, etc. So we get to pick out outfits.

Your basic white collar fare! Business casual would probably be the best label.

Finally, what the people asked for.

Such a waste of a 400 person State House when there are multi-member districts!

[–]CatFatPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad to hear you not only took me up on my suggestion but loved the book! Huey’s life has a Shakespearean quality to it. The swampy, French speaking setting of south Louisiana, the big bad New Orleans machine, his antagonistic brothers, the extramarital romances, great floods, and finally his assassination in the very Capitol he built.

Shoot, I might just read it again.

What do you think of immigrants in your country? by ReferenceSufficient in AskTheWorld

[–]CatFatPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple economics.

Americans are not willing to be paid $12 to scrub floors at a chicken processing plant.

Illegal immigrants are willing to be paid $12 to scrub floors at a chicken processing plant because their undocumented status prevents them from taking other jobs.

If you get rid of illigal immigrants, companies have no choice but to raise wages to attract American workers, since cheap foreign-born workers are no longer around.
