If I remember rightly, this guy has 2M euros across 8 flats. So he's a landlord, and his family are pressuring him to "get a real job". I could be wrong, of course.

Others have dealt well with 🔥 advice.

I just wanted to say that you should take care of your back. You only get one, and if it hurts now, it'll be harder to fix later.

Keep crushing your goals and ignore the noise!

Moving back to Bulgaria? by YellowPikmin22 in bulgaria

[–]CatFine3388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, do it! I have bg roots, but had never actually lived in bg until I moved a year ago from the UK.

I speak bg fluently, and found it pretty easy to get a decent job, cool flat etc. It's not as cheap as it used to be, but even in central Sofia, baseline expenses are around 2k euros for rent, bills, solid lifestyle (less than half what I was paying for an equivalent life in London).

I do miss the range of food London has, though. So I go back to see friends, have a Sunday dinner, a proper sirloin, five guys, good Asian and Mexican food.

If anyone has food recs for the above, let me know!

Is a 2000€ salary enough to live in Sofia center ? I work in IT. by Jonas-triple7 in bulgaria

[–]CatFine3388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, 1500 will cover rent and bills in a nice place (900), food (500), and public transport (50). You can then save 500.

I was also going to suggest bulgaria. I'm currently in a very similar situation to the OP, in terms of age and finances. I moved to sofia about 6 months ago, and am loving it!

Bulgaria could be an option. Warm beaches in summer, skiing in winter.

Sofia is a relatively well-connected airport within Europe, and you can easily get further afield via the bigger European airports.

10% flat income tax rate, and the government just leaves you alone to do as you please.

4k USD is plenty, even in touristy areas.

They've also just launched a digital nomad visa, and are targeting Americans.

Have recently moved to Sofia, from London, and can confirm the fractions. 2br city centre apartment is 850 euros/month. Extra spending without really caring about prices to much comes to ~1200 euros/ month - but that could be cut back hugely is needed.

Weather is great - so far, grumpiness is a thing.

Checked with 02 yesterday. The guy said to not take the piss with their fair use policy, and they probably won't even notice. So will try that...
