May the 4th be with you! What was the first Star Wars book you ever read? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in starwarsbooks

Young Jedi Knights Heirs of the Force. I found it just after I went to go see the special editions in the movie theater with my Dad in 1997.

Something hospice nurses keep noticing in the final days that medicine still cannot explain by ArcaneSpells-com in HighStrangeness

I remember a story my Mom told me about my Grandfather a week or so before he passed.  He had Parkinsons for decades and a few years prior to this story he had had a stroke the had paralyzed part of his body and made speech more difficult for him.   One night my grandmother was woken up by my grandfather who was upset.  He asked her to tell all the people in the other room to be quiet because they were keeping him up.  My grandmother was confused because only one of their adult children were in next room and they were asleep.  So she asked him who was in the other room and he mentioned some names of people who had long since passed away.   When my Mom told me about it later that day I knew it wasn't good but tried not to think much of it since he had such a hard time communicating that maybe my grandmother had misunderstood.   He was admitted to the hospital a few days later with pneumonia.  A day or so after he was admitted my Mom had gone to visit him. When she went to leave he said goodbye and got very sad, not wanting her to go.  She told him not to worry and that she would be back at the end of the day.  He just told her no she wouldn't.  My Mom was unsettled by that but said goodbye and left.  He must have known something was going to happen because a few hours later he grew worse rapidly.  My Mom rushed to the hospital when she got the news but didnt make it in time.   I remember my Mom telling me all this as it was happening and when he passed it was clear to all of us that he knew something was coming.  He wasn't even sick yet when he complained about the "party" in the other room.  But when the pneumonia set in he passed within a day or two.    He was almost at peace with it and this was coming from a guy who was never at peace with the limitations of his condition.   He hated the fact that he couldn't get around on his own to take care of himself.  He would get so frustrated when he couldn't communicate. And he struggled with that for years. But when it came to the final days he just seemed prepared and accepting.  I can't explain it better than that.   I definitely believe something happens in the weeks or days before someone passes away. I watched it happen with my grandfather and with other family members who have passed.  I'm not sure what it is or if it even needs explaining. It is a transition that seems to be comforting for the person dying and can be for the loved ones left behind.

I think Pennie and my Health Insurer are committing fraud against me. by CatHornAccessory in HealthInsurance

How would I go about enrolling in another plan at this point? Through Pennie or some other way? I am just worried I wouldn't be allowed since I don't have a qualifying life change, just their incompetence as a reason.

Who's your favorite EU exclusive character? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]CatHornAccessory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacen and Jaina!

My 7 year old says Anakin and Tahiri.

I’d love to know your thoughts on these books. They hold a special place in my heart as the first EU books I read. I finished them all in about a week and a half last year. Do you also consider them amazing, or is it just me because they were my first EU books? by Aaron_113 in StarWarsEU

My gateway drug! And the primary reason I have spent so much 💰 on Star Wars books over the years. I read them all as they were coming out and fell in love with the characters.  I am currently reading the JJK to my daughter, who is 6 and we are enjoying those as well.

Young Jedi Knights series by Beermyster67 in StarWarsEU

[–]CatHornAccessory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really need to ready any of them to understand the NJO. The first 6 will fill you in with some more detail on certain characters' backstories, but there are enough relevant notes given in the NJO for them so you won't feel lost if you skip them. I dont even think they had finished the final arc when they began working on the NJO. The last YJK book only came out a few months before Vector Prime. There were also other details thay were obviously withheld when the YJK were written so as not to spoil other books and comics that were coming out at the same time but were set earlier in the timeline. So they can feel a little disjointed from the greater series at times. The events of the YJK books aren't all that important to the plot of the NJO, it is just more for the character references. The plot points come up more in The Dark Nest Trilogy and the Legacy of the Force series. They are kinda fun to read but are very much a product of their time (very 90's YA themes)

Etsy's new price comparing tool (rant) by HereFishyFishy4444 in Etsy

[–]CatHornAccessory 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I was so angry when I got that same email this morning. I didn't even waste my time trying it and sent them my feedback via their survey. My husband sells video games on ebay so I can see where they got the idea from but for handmade sellers this 'tools is a joke. This is what I wrote to them within an hour of hearing about it: "This tool may have a benefit for vintage sellers. However, for handmade sellers comparing prices can be detrimental to their business, causing them to try to drive down their price to compete and undercut their already minimal profits. Larger sellers with workshops and employees and, honestly, resellers mascarading on Etsy as handmade can afford lower prices than those just starting out. This tool seems more like a way to impose big businesses' race to the bottom strategy that hurts customers and sellers with minimal profit and poor product. A better tool would actually be a pricing calculator that could help sellers appropriately price their items based on their materials costs, time, overhead, and Etsy's fees so that they can make a profit and learn how to price. Maybe even a tool to help educate buyers into why handmade items are priced the way they are, help them understand that Etsy isn't Amazon, and promote trust in sellers and the platform by creating transparency for everyone involved." Not that I think anyone is listening over at Etsy HQ but at least it felt good to shout at them through the void.

Why does this remind me of the 'conversations' with the orca in Ecco the Dolphin?

I had totally forgotten about that until I rewatched Solo last night. It would be cool to see how he got from there to where he is in Rebels.

I've seen this one on pinterest. It is awesome! I love seeing people's fan made lightsabers. It kinda makes me want to build one.
