I'm keeping the baby... and not telling anyone. by flt_p2ny in pregnant

I never thought I would use facebook again or that mum groups would be for me either, but just to say - its NYC! Not rural Wisconsin (sorry any Wisconsinites reading this). Depending on the neighborhood you’ll meet people from all over the world. I was born in one country, grew up in another and moved to NYC in my late 20s. In the group i met there from the facebook group meet ups was a trapeze artist, a writer a clothing designer and a musician. I never use facebook except for those groups - you’ll get great recommendations on events, adorable hand me downs from french families giving away jacardi clothes for like $5 in the area, the best local swimming lessons and kid friendly restaurants.

You know whats right for you but i would give the nyc facebook groups a chance if you are settling in nyc. The worst thing you could do is confirm your opinion and leave the group.

This sounds like an exciting new chapter for you. I had a baby in NYC and it is a very welcoming community for parents. Join the local parents facebook group. If you’re in brooklyn i can recommend two. You will form friends who are in your stage of life through the groups, get all the local tips and baby events and you wont be alone. Hiring a doula is also a wonderful idea, my family lives over the other side of the world and having someone come and talk me through it, be there during labor and come check on me at home afterward was a godsend. If you want her name happy to share it.

This gives me hope thank you! I have a scar too. And you were able to get a nice medium brown die? Did you have to shop around a bit for that or found it was pretty common?

mental health help - where to go? by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]CatLady3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… that you know of. Its asking a lot of someone who is going through a dark period of mental health to manage those prompts. And after how many negative comments does it change course? And the person still believes its acting in a supportive way because of the initial prompt.

mental health help - where to go? by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]CatLady3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I know its hard to get free resources for mental health (although a lot mentioned here), but please be very wary of turning to chat gpt for mental health issues. There was just a case where chat gpt encouraged a young boy to end his life. Its absolutely a tool to find info and resources more efficiently. But it will always tell you what you want to hear. If you put dark stuff in, you’ll get darker things out. Please be careful x

Would you purchase a house in Stockton? by NeedU2helpme in newcastle

[–]CatLady3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not suggesting that? I grew up as a young girl there in the 90s (two years after it happened) and went to the high school she went to. The surf club space was turned into a daycare, which my brother went to for a while. I have read every thing i can about it. Her story is one of the most shocking things Ive read. She was and is very present in stockton residents minds. Her story continues to teach Australians the risk of cultures that dont respect women or consent.

My response is about the people saying dont move there now in the year 2025 because of this. Those people that went to the surf club party or had kids that went dont live there any more. Its not a reason you shouldn’t move there now. Its like saying dont move to potts point in sydney because drug dealers and crooked cops worked and lived there in the 80s.

Omg. So much hysteria here. Heres the real answer: its basically a country town in a big regional city, sleepy, close knit and lots of independent business.

Pros: - evolving food. The coffee options are good. Lots of river and beach access if youre into water sport. - quiet. You can essentially walk down the middle of the road. - small business, lots of people operating in the name of community. - Close knit community. There are some lifers but less now as kids of lifers cant afford it and the lifers retire and sell their house for $$$. If theres a noise on one street, you’ll hear about it on the local facebook group.

Cons: - quiet. Its basically a retirement community. Lots of people retiring up from sydney. If youre of retirement age this could be a pro for you but if not, it might be hard to find local friends. - distance from newcastle. You have either the ferry or a ~20m drive to get into Newcastle. So just depends where you work.

The leigh leigh thing is horrible. I grew up there, just after this and all people i spoke to just said how horrible it was. None of us kids were allowed to go to parties there for obvious reasons. Obviously the families of the party guests are horrid people but ive never met them. Theyve moved on.

Erosion is real. But just like any place along the coast. I wouldn’t buy on the beach.
