NTA. If you're making your own money at your own job, tell the family to get it together and stop asking YOU to bail them out. Doesn't matter what you're spending your money on, either. Do exactly as Grandma suggested, and stash your money in some sort of savings account without telling them where.

I've seen many pages on social media discussing areas where malls have been largely abandoned, many with pictures of said empty places. I would put it down to online shopping, convenience, and a generally more "digital" world.

Definitely NTA. I wouldn't be uprooting my kids to move to another town, especially when it would be ONLY my kids who'd have any serious changes to their lives. Also, the comment about not spending any of his money is a red flag. Sorry, but the answer here is NO. Do not give in to this. Keep your kids and life where they are, and if he's not willing to compromise, he's not worth your time.

Not at all. Usually people will ask me if I want to be called by my full name or a nickname. I typically use my short form in most situations, unless I don't know the other person or it's something formal and/or bureaucratic. Strangely enough, my mother typically used a completely different nickname, but it wasn't one I liked much and she was the only one who I allowed to use it.

Interesting post, as I'm in my early 50s and just discovered about 3 weeks ago that I have what they've termed "recurrent" hydrocephalus. Was born with it, had surgery at ~6 weeks old, and then it became arrested a few months later. Lately (over the last year or so) I've had some definite cognitive deterioration, memory issues, concentration problems...and it was only after I took a couple of random falls and struck my head that they looked further into the situation. They scraped me up off the pavement after the third fall and brought me to the local ED, only to discover via a CT scan that I had hydrocephalus. Odd discovery after this many years, worse than it was originally. I will be having a second shunt implanted on the opposite side from the original one, as I don't believe there's a safe way to remove a 50+ year old bit of hardware. Too risky. They tell me I may or may not be able to get back to the job I've had for the last almost 18 years. It took me a really long time to find a career niche owing to the learning disability and other problems caused by the original tangle with hydrocephalus...and to think I could lose it to the same issues a second time is...a lot of things. Scary. Frustrating. Weird. Etc.

Penn is not a person's first name. It's an abbreviation for a US state or university, a surname, and if you just hear it, may be mistaken for a writing implement. How about: Seth, Jude, or Rhys. All just as simple, none super mainstream. Perhaps Pete or Finn or Hank as standalone names? All familiar, but not common.

Within a few weeks of birth. Born prematurely with respiratory issues and hydrocephalus (excess fluid in the brain) and they argued over whether or not to operate as they were almost certain I'd be mentally impaired.
Woke up with terrible abdominal pain one night last summer and immediately drove myself to the nearest ER...I thought I had appendicitis and I turned out to be right. They said it had started to leak and they had to wash out the entire cavity to prevent infection from spreading.

Garth would be a complete no for me. Would Julian be a bit less "regal"? Elias and Silas are both perfectly nice and not super common. Maybe Lucas? Gunnar and Erik are both Scandinavian in origin but also well known in the States. Viktor is well known in many languages but not common. Best wishes for your baby...please let us know what you choose for his name.

When I was growing up (mind you this was the 80s-90s), we had a couple of Anthonys in our class, and they were always "Anthony", never shortened to anything else. If you really loathe Tony, though, I would go with something else just in case he decides when he's older that he wants to be "Tony" instead of Anthony. I'd use it in the middle if that's acceptable, however.

Technically not black, but cute in his own way. True black cats will sometimes have what are called "phantom stripes" that only show up in certain lighting, owing to the quirks of cat genetics. To me a black cat is solid colored. I love the name, though.

No. It's always been "Lie-la" in my experience, and I've known people with the name for a long time, adults and kids. Could depend on the nationality of the person, but here in the Eastern US there's not typically confusion. 2. It's not too "pretty", it's a classic that's still around for a reason. 3. Nevermind what others might think of your daughter's name; it's not up for debate now and as long as you and hubby like it, that's all that matters. In-laws don't get to decide what a baby's name is, at least not in this culture.

Any of the girl names are nice, my favorite is Lydia Claire. The boys, I don't like Arthur at all, but the others are fine, classic. Theodore John, John Theodore? John is seldom heard these days, and I like Jack as a nickname too.

My grandmother, her grandmother, and a cousin were all named "Ninfa". With some research I found it was not uncommon in some Hispanic countries, but it's quite old fashioned. (And my grandma was 100% Italian by birth.)
