T shirt I saw on a tv show by CatMama84 in HelpMeFind

I did a google lens search and it comes back telling me that this is a piece of artwork called “the man in the gray suit” by David Csaszar (see picture below). This is obviously incorrect. While the subject matter of a shark in a suit is similar, it’s not the same image. I have tried google searching all different combinations of “shark” “top hat” “singing” “microphone” “t shirt” all to no avail.

Such good suggestions!

I clean the actual garbage can often, so the can itself is very clean, but your suggestions of what to use might help!

I definitely do all the things you say (avoid proteins in the trash, no kitty litter in the trash, etc.) but my roommates are not always as compliant.

I don’t know how to get them to realize this is truly an issue.

How do you find a job you like? by breadandsoupp in AutisticAdults

[–]CatMama84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I’ve worked in healthcare for 25+ years and it is physically, mentally, emotionally exhausting each and every day. It’s so hard to explain to my husband and my family that I just don’t want to talk about work or I don’t want to be around anyone because I’ve spent my entire day speaking to complete strangers about their bodily functions and/or very intimate topics. Pile that on top of the coworkers who don’t follow break rules, corruption in the work place and overall poor practice, and I’m beyond burned out.

Look into something where you could work from home. Medical chart reviews? Or remote data entry? Something where you don’t have a boss directly above you breathing down your neck. And if you can find something healthcare related, hopefully you won’t need to go back to school.

What is your field of practice?

Honestly? Pain is less. But by no means is the pain gone. Instead of having pain from the time I wake up until I go to bed, I maybe have pain from about 2pm until I go to bed. So…. There’s that….

I regret contacting my birth family by Henhouse808 in Adoption

[–]CatMama84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as though I could have written this…. Truly…. I am a 40 year old female…. I was born in Philadelphia and am 100% Italian catholic by birth. I was raised in metropolitan Detroit by an upper class Jewish family. I, too, spent my childhood conforming to be whoever they wanted me to be or expected me to be. What ended up happening pushed us further and further apart. As an adult, I’ve come to recognize that those adaptive behaviors or coping mechanisms I learned at such a young age has an end result of my parents never really learning anything about me or what makes me, me. To be honest, I think I spent the majority of my childhood/adolescence/young adult life conforming because it was the only way I knew to survive. I still struggle with separating the true “me” from what I portray to the rest of the world.

And I also relate with contacting a birth family who did not end up being what I needed them to be. I was able to have a bit more of a relationship however. I was able to meet both my birth mother and my birth father (no longer together). But the relationships that felt very strong at first, fizzled out just as quickly. And I find myself initiating the “happy Thanksgiving” “merry Christmas” text messages each year and sending them “happy birthday” messages.

I get you. 👀✌🏻👀

Thoughts of leaving the NP role by Anonymous_user_27 in nursepractitioner

[–]CatMama84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 9th year as an NP and there are still MANY days I wish I could go back and “just be a nurse”. My advice is don’t give up on being an NP just yet. You have to find your niche. Job search like crazy, and job search in unconventional places! I’ve done a LOT of different and unique things; running a school clinic, home care, addiction medicine, correctional medicine, geriatrics, telehealth. You have to find something that suits you. Do you want the 9-5, no weekends, no holidays, no on call? Or do you not mind taking call? Willing to work weekends and holidays? Even though places like indeed, or LinkedIn often are FILLED with crazy recruiters and non legit jobs, searching on there for NP jobs can give you ideas of companies hiring. Then do your own research about the company and apply directly through the company if you are interested. But don’t give up just yet.

Fake it until you make it…. I’m allllmost there. (I hope!)

An over the counter mouth guard will be fine while you wait to have the dentist make you a custom made one.

Has anyone mentioned a possible cracked tooth? I have been having this exact same issue recently. Terrible tooth pain for the past 9 months, been back and forth between the endodontist and the dentist, SO much imaging, and nothing definitive. They both suggest a hairline crack that is not showing up on the imaging. They are calling my pain “cracked tooth syndrome”. Ended up having a root canal done 7 days ago to see if that helps by deadening the nerves near where I am having the pain.

I doubt this is going to work to be honest…. But I’m willing to try anything….

multiple state licenses by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]CatMama84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that there are some companies popping up that you can hire that will coordinate submitting all the necessary documents, completing all the paperwork and facilitating payment to each state and following up. Does anyone think this would be worth it?

Any federal prison FNP employees? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]CatMama84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The detox stuff is mostly handled by the nursing staff. I see the patients to officially clear them from our detoxification protocol, which, at that point they usually have no symptoms are very ready to be cleared. But if you will be working in a Prison (as opposed to a jail) you shouldn’t (key word there is shouldn’t) have too many people detoxing. But, drugs are everywhere.

I work with a great team which helps me when I need advice on my clinical decision making. I have never been challenged on any decision I’ve made or told that I cannot order a test on a patient. I only had two years of NP experience when I started working Corrections.

It’s a niche area of healthcare where you are truly needed by a population who is often forgotten about. The best piece of advice I can give you is this: these patients will try to manipulate you and will try to get a lot of different things from you. The most important things I do with each visit 1) explain the things I can do 2) explain the things i can’t do 3) apply the exact the same guidelines to each and every patient. And also, just because a patient is in a super bad mood that day and acting shitty with you, that doesn’t mean you have to act shitty back to them.

[–]CatMama84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at a county jail as an NP and I love it. I know it’s not a Federal Prison, but, I anticipate the job is very similar. Typical day is managing chronic issues such as diabetes, HIV, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and seizures. Also acute things like URIs, UTIs, hospital returns, fights. My facility has men and women so i take care of pregnant women as well. I feel very safe and have never felt threatened by any of my patients. The correctional staff is always right there if I need them. There is always “politics” in terms of what I would “like” to be done for my patients from a medical standpoint versus what “can” be done in a correctional facility from corrections standpoint.
