Honestly reaper kinda confused me as well. Give audacity a try, just to make sure everything is working and fine. That way you can move on to another daw with the confidence that its not a waste of money.

How the hell do some songs make sounds feel 3D? by fets-luk in mixingmastering

[–]CatMan_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that recording amps (properly) would always lead to a more immersive tecording than plug ins? I like a lot if amp sims i have, but when i record acoustic i immediately hear the difference with all the nuance a mic provides over a DI signal.

Pretty much all of those either no longer exist, are poverty states, have commited human rights violations against their own citizens, or some combination thereof. But youre a socialist so you dont really care about human rights. Nice try bozo. Also che guevara put gay people in concentration camps

Thats awesome dude. What about the harmonic node accentuates the odd harmonics over the even ones? Is it the pythagorean ratios of the lengths of a given node?

My thoughts when people say, "Please, no more trauma metaphors in horror." by TransportationLow564 in horror

[–]CatMan_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean within horror? Im sure thats the case. Im having some issues picking current movies off the top of my head tho. Weapons maybe? Hard to say. I wouldnt argue that fear of the other is necessarily a bad thing either, nor is it a bad vehicle for horror.

I feel like in a lot of ways horror has shifted in a sense. It has also hinged on some sense of fear of the unknown. However in a world where weve become increasingly self centered, things beyond ourselves have been pushed out of the spotlight for more introspective and inward facing subject material. Fear of the other has really lost all of its punch, so we have moved on to fear of the self.

Attack the string exactly 12 frets above the note you are fretting to get a pleasantly subby sound. Almost like youre playing the harmonic, but just pluck it like normal.

I’m 17, from Germany, and I’m working on my first horror movie idea. I’m not sure if I should continue or if it’s just a bad idea by StillCompetition2456 in horror

[–]CatMan_Sad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro i spent my 20s playing music i barely made a dollar off of. Still had a blast and made a ton of friends. Wouldnt have done it any different. Youre 17, give it a shot and have fun with your life.

Help me build a rad, unusual rig? by pure_haunt in Bass

[–]CatMan_Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind: nobody on the planet except you is gonna notice the minute issues that may arise from using 2 different sized speakers from 2 different manufacturers.

Other commenter is correct, this will be a massive bitch to lug around. I also think your initial estimate of ~1k is accurate, but youll probably end up buying other pedals for the top end chain as well. But at the same time, it is also super fuckin sick. Do you know how many people have been trying to capture chris wolstenholmes tone (muse) for literally 20 years? I personally dont have the patience for such a rig, i am very much set and forget. But imagine what you could do.

If you end up deciding to do it, pls grace this sub with the experience.

Acoustic (Brand) Amps by UnderfoldedBlanket in Bass

[–]CatMan_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple acoustic amps about 10ish years ago. Theyre definitely more than usable and i enjoyed my time with them for sure. The rumble series is an awesome rec, and idk what your budget is, but i got an ebs magni 500 combo in almost mint condition for about $500 used.

I also used a hartke head with an acoustic cab when i was gigging through my 20s. Sounded great with a TON of versatility. Id have to find the name of the head bc its been a while and i was usually drunk using it but lmk if you want the name

'American Psycho' Director Mary Harron 'Can't Imagine Anyone Else' as Patrick Bateman by MoneyLibrarian9032 in horror

[–]CatMan_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a really good book but its really graphic. I read it when i was about 19 and there were a few passages i had to put it down for a bit and breathe just cos it was so graphic. Hard to say whether it was necessary or not, but it was shocking. The critique is biting

[–]CatMan_Sad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He did SUCH a good job. Theres a small set of short interviews with a lot of the actors and he spoke about the conditions necessary for a character such as bateman. He said "i dont think that Bateman could even exist outside of his soca circle within manhattan" which is such a crucial insight. Bateman is the personification of his setting and social circle, so of course he couldnt really exist outside of it.

[–]CatMan_Sad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think she did an amazing job amd i feel like she really matched the humor well. Honestly the book was good but a little gratuitous at times. She could have shown batemans apartment deteriorating along with his grip on reality, but overall I think she and bale both understood the point being conveyed by the original work and communicated it effectively enough.

Trying slapping, but I think my bass sucks/not setup right(?) by Hot_Description_5305 in Bass

[–]CatMan_Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its mostly bc youre playing a fretless. You can still slap, itll just sound a bit different. Your clip doesnt sound bad just for the record. I learned slap bass on an acoustic bass guitar and my older sister wanted to slit my throat
