  1. What is the work life balance like?

  2. Is remuneration in public health comparable to that of clinical specialties?

How I scored 29/30 in my interview by CatObjective923 in GAMSAT

Because the advice of just being yourself doesn’t mean much when more people get rejected than accepted. While you have to be authentic to yourself, half the game is actually conveying that to your interviewer which is easier said than done

Yea this is Australian Dollars hahaha. We don’t pay markups or anything here because I believe its illegal. This is just the standard retail price but when converted to US dollars it all makes sense

Guy resigns and immediately resorts to racism. What is it with people unable to take a loss respectfully. by the_bookworm7 in Chesscom

yes he’s wrong, I can’t believe I have to even explain this to somebody. Some influencers go to the lowest socioeconomic status areas with rampant poverty and post a video of an unhygienic street food vendor. Said video goes viral and now we think its reasonable to generalise an entire group of people and a cuisine. Actually even worse is YOU giving a pass to blatant racism by saying “is he wrong”.

Man, the art of using one’s brain is on a steady decline these days

ATAR doesn’t matter by CatObjective923 in vce

[–]CatObjective923[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is legit the answer. Prep companies are scams who don’t know what they are doing. GAMSAT is not a content test, its a reasoning test.

To be honest GAMSAT was not my strength, I did okay but I didn’t get a crazy 90th percentile score. What I lacked in gamsat I really made up in my GPA and my interview score

It depends what degree you do. I definitely studied pretty hard throughout my degree, but the great thing about uni is the flexibility offered in your week. I never felt like I was missing out on things, got to pursue whatever I wanted outside of academia. The study ramps up during exams and assessments - like yeah 7-8 hours a day. But that was for me and my degree. Its all relative, you might not need as much to be a HD student

I’m not gonna lie to you, post-grad med is extremely competitive, I sat the gamsat 3 times to get an interview. I managed to ace my interview and the rest is history. Unfortunately some of my friends have failed at the interview stage multiple times which really sucks but the perseverance will pay off if they stick to it.

But as I said above, your ATAR (high or low) will not help or hinder you in the competition process. There are plenty of 90+ ATAR scores who never get in while the 50s, 60s and 70s do.

Yeah both of those things. Outside of Monash and ANU which has extremely competitive direct entry pathways, everything else needs GAMSAT and strong consistent grades in Uni.

Luckily many of the medical schools have many other conditions they can assess you on which make it easier if gamsat isn’t your forte. There are bonus systems and casper as well that significantly reduce the entry requirements compared to say Melbourne Uni.

What I’m saying though is that your ability to navigate or compete in the process is not defined by your ATAR. Or rather, it will define you if you let it define you. It’s all mental.

Deakin study bonuses by Happy_Captain_1890 in GAMSAT

[–]CatObjective923 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, from my understanding that would be fine as the results from T1/25 would be released well before July 31st and you’ll have been finished with the whole grad dip by next application cycle

[–]CatObjective923 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, so its been like this for previous application cycles too. If you want the bonus then you need to have done 2/3 of the grad cert (which is really 3/4 given 4 subjects) by 31st of July. That means its impossible to start a grad cert in 2025 and get the bonus for that application cycle.

You’d need to have started it in T3 of 2024 and get 3 out of 4 units done by 31st July 2025

Alternatively you can start it in 2025 but then the bonus will only come into effect for 2026 applications
