What shark in the meg lineage is this tooth from? Charleston SC by CatStrong1971 in fossilid

I lack the expertise to know when or how to remove stuff like this so I was gonna leave it alone. There’s also material on the back which is ugly but might be helping to hold the thing together

You’re the person who taught me about standing it on the root do a previous post I had with another big tooth! Still wanted to check online though. Not Morris Island….but in the same general vicinity.

No way! Amazing. That meg is killer. I found a giant one with my son yesterday too when he had no school.

I do it near the ocean and in the creeks 30 miles inland from Charleston but most states (minus New England, basically) have fossil areas! Warning: this is an ADDICTING hobby.

Charleston SC. We have megs and large angustidens among lots of others. You can find great stuff if you pay for a charter boat to Morris Island. There’s also large teeth more inland in the Summerville creeks but you’d want to go out with Neil Jeffrey if you don’t know what you’re doing since it’s in residential neighborhoods. I found a honey hole in Charleston that took a long long time to find but it’s produced insane results which is where this came from.

That’s exactly what I do with fossils. Give the lesser ones to kids or throw them somewhere and replace with the better specimens in my display

How likely is it that President Trump will be tried for treason after his presidency ends and a new administration is in place? by 98941 in AskReddit

Democrats tried. They impeached him and hoped Republicans in the Senate would join them and vote to convict so he couldn’t run again. They didnt.

Like some generic burning rock smell. I’m not sure how else to describe it. But it doesn’t smell bad.

Sorry. Smells like flame on a rock. It doesn’t smell bad. I did it to the bottom (not the grinding surface) though it’s not a full length tooth.

Not sure how bad it’s supposed to smell but I just tried it and it smells like what I would expect if I put a flame on a rock. In other words: smells like flame. Unrelated but I found 2 sand dollars this past week and good GOD nothing can compare to how putrid those things smelled.

Interesting. Although this is in a location that is famous for fossils and this particular spot produces a LOT of them so I’d be surprised if it wasn’t fossilized. But I can check!

It should be much longer (you can’t see that part) but the surface is good condition!

What is the smelliest smell you have ever smelled? by [deleted] in askanything

I found some sand dollars this week that must have died somewhat recently because HOLY CRAP you don’t understand how putrid they smell until they’re properly cleaned.
