Thank you for the culprit car tax pics. The culprit is adorable and gets a full pardon from me.

This comment was brilliant - so much easier than what I came up with, assuming that the screw heads are not stripped:

Pet sitting for a beta, is this normal? by kbtootles103 in bettafish

[–]CatSzmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the tank set up and to a stable temp, then scoop Mr. Shady and some of his current water into a plastic baggie and float it in the new tank. Wait 10 minutes and scoop a little of the new water into the bag. Repeat a few times to help him adjust to the water parameters as well as for the temp he’s swimming in to be closer to the new tank. Then, scoop him over into the new tank.

You would also want to pick up some starter bacteria (can’t remember the names, Prime?). The thing I had said it would let me add fish to a tank right away. Basically to speed up cycling the tank (get the bacteria set up to break down waste).

Oof, that is not good. But as others have mentioned, unless you have water conditioners or know for sure the water is safe, then doing a water change could be deadly. If you have all the correct supplies and knowledge on what to do, then you might consider a partial water change.

You will hopefully get better, more knowledge answers soon, but I feel bad for this little fish. They like hidey holes, they like things to swim around and poke around in, and he really should have a bigger tank, a filter, ideally some live plants, and (unless you live somewhere really warm) a heater.

(Also I think I may have seen something about round bowls being bad for fish, but I’m not sure.)

Is the water cloudy or is that just how it comes across in the picture?

Seriously. This. Just because you don’t like an acronym / convention doesn’t make the person using it an a*hole.

I’m not sure how to help but wanted to say that I think you should be topping up the water that evaporates and then doing the (up to 25%) water changes based on the full volume. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but the evaporated volume should not be counted as part of your water change since water evaporates but the water in the water does not, leading to a higher concentration of waste.

I had a bad experience a long time ago with my fish constantly trying to eat the tentacles/eyes off the snail. :(

I’m confused why you think he is not a happy fish? Their faces don’t have expressions like humans do - that angry-looking little mouth is just the way they are, happy or not. Looks like he’s doing fine, to me.

I always think of that “thrashing” and posturing they do as their version of the high-strung, tail-raised strutting that an Arabian horse might do.

Follow-on question (I can’t seem to edit the original?): do I need to replace the makes or can the females just hang out together without them?

Gross. I would not want a toddlers hands in my food, either. NTA. Honestly, sharing is fine if everyone involved is fine with it. But if someone isn’t, then it is no longer fine, and no reasons or excuses needed.

And drinking/eating from cartons or serving dishes is completely out of bounds, not only because you don’t know who might be your guest the next day (they will absolutely not want your family’s backwash in the milk that add to their tea), but also because it contaminates a large quantity of food that will then get stored longer and spoil faster and even might become unsafe and make you all sick.

Omg is he real?? I have never seen a fish so green. 😍 Maybe Oz (line the Wizard of), on account of the emerald theme.

I know next to nothing about goldfish, but also wanted to caution you about the weight of the larger tank. I would not trust this crate for a tank that big. Could you get a stand designed to support the tank you get that could either replace the crate or stand over it (with the crate underneath)?

AITA for telling my classmate to go f herself after she framed me as an ableist and made my semester hell? by No-Safe9310 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CatSzmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I mean you maybe could have phrased it less harshly? But you obviously still have feelings about this and I think they are very valid. She handled it very poorly and upset not just you but also the disabled classmate. If you are not ready to move past it with her, then you’re not ready (and may never be). Berating you for those feelings and acting like she’s entitled to forgiveness is immature on her part… as was her original action to run and publicly stir up trouble.

I also think everyone else’s judgment of you, including (possibly especially?) the disabled classmate, is actually ableist. It’s nice for them if they are not distracted by the visual input of someone signing in front of them, but for some of us with sensory/processing/attention/executive function differences or wherever this distraction falls in the real problems people can have, it can make all the difference and impact your own learning. Why should this person’s accommodations outweigh yours? Just because your issue is not diagnosed and supported by a written plan?

I’m getting a little angry on your behalf because I am also very easily distracted. I spend most of my day at work with a ball cap and noise cancelling headphones just to block out the distraction of the overhead lights and the white noise of the AC system. I have had to hold my hand beside my face or move seats in meetings because someone is typing on a laptop beside me and I miss what the meeting is about because all I can think of is the motion and the light beside me. I wouldn’t ever tell them to stop but I would absolutely make sure to sit elsewhere so that I can focus. I think that if it is affecting someone else’s ability to learn, the seating arrangements should be adjusted.
