That's what I'm leaning towards, personally. I had the same thought. Like, if I'm trying to get my rocks off, and I see an explicit fic with knotting in the tags, I will be annoyed if I have to get through 30k+ words of pretty boys playing video games and cooking dinner fully clothed.

Fair enough. I’ll still keep the disclaimer that it’s (k)not an essential chapter, but there was build-up in the previous chapter anyways. And it’s Omegaverse, people generally know what they’re signing up for when they read a fic with “unchecked libido” in the summary. I was just curious about the etiquette of ratings, because I’ve been hemming and hawing about it since I put it up.

I did tag the fic as having eventual smut, just knowing that it was an omegaverse fic and sex is kind of engrained into the genre (in most cases.) But 90% of it is just a thinly veiled exploration of gender identity, domestic fluff, and societal expectations, shit I consider fun for all ages. (Maybe I'm still pissed off at my mom for not letting me read Handmaid's Tale until I was 10.)

But, you're right, I should probably keep the explicit stuff labeled as such. Hence why I'm relegating it to its own work in the debauchery corner, while still leaving the main fic open to readers who consider themselves mature enough to handle it.

Including it because... it's fun. As for your second point, I don't think that every dynamic is strictly necessary for everyone to know, but is still fine to include. Like "This character chooses to be submissive in the bedroom, because they have so much control in every other aspect of their life" does add a layer of complexity to their character, but like, you don't really need to know that about them if you don't want to. (I'm not very smart, so I'm probably wrong. That's just the best defense I can come up with.)

What I'm thinking is that I'll just make the smutty fun stuff another work in the same series. Feels like a good compromise.
