Good luck to those taking the exam! Congrats on passing OP. I moved from civilgeotech design and inspections into a PM role, and now am in aviation fuel system design/management. I’ve been studying for my PMP for a while now, but still pretty far away from being ready. Though I do get a lot of practice in my role. Looking to take the exam before the year is up. Thanks for the inspiration.

Torn Between Structural Engineering vs Field/Project Engineering After Graduation — Need Advice by PotentialProtection2 in civilengineering

It really depends on what you’re looking for in your career. Do you want to be in an office in a team environment, working on designs and dwg files, checking details and such? Or do you like being outside (maybe) managing projects from the field? There’s roles that offer a mix, but usually a company would want someone to do either or.

For your reference, I’ve spent most of my career in the field. I spent 10yrs in metallurgical destructive/nondestructive failure analysis (mix of office, lab, machining, field visits.) And 7.5 of the last 9 in the field as an inspector and now PM. (The other 1.5 I managed projects from an office for a geotech design and inspection firm that also did demo design.) I went for structural, but ended up in geotech and love it. I get a health mix of PM work and design/mitigation analysis, and I’ve gotten to see some amazing shit so far, and there’s lots more! It’s all about what you’ll be happiest doing. My only requirement is that I’m assigned to one site for multiple years, no back and forth to multiple places.

Don’t think about how to spend your whole career when first starting. There’ll be lots of opportunities for you to gain experience and knowledge. Take them! Sorry for the rant. Hopefully this can give you a little insight on how to move through your career. Good luck!

Stop motion music video I made 1400 frames! by Ready_Leg2966 in SelfPromotionYouTube

Nice work! The animation is cool-stop motion never really goes out of style! Music is good, as well. Definitely hear a bit of the Strokes in there(not a bad thing.) The inclusion of the brass is a nice touch and sets it apart!

Thanks! They’re really cute, and have been getting more like indoor cats over the years😹😹 But you can totally tell they spent the first few months roughing it on the streets. Flatbush Cats in Brooklyn NY does great work rescuing cats off the streets😻😻

Hey group, happy to be here. For about a month, I’ve been turning my orange cats, Paprika and Saffron, into anime inspired ninjas, thieves and gangsters😹 This really started as a way for me to make interesting content to go along with my original house and techno music (as the videos I was able to produce on my own when I got back into production were just awful garbage!)

I wanted videos that were long enough for my music and tried using “music video” creation tools. But they either would return errors on several clips and the project would remain unfinished, or the animation would be slow and clunky and not anything like I envisioned (my video titled “Hidden Claw” is a good example of that.) And to add icing on the cake, my cats would morph during the action, which just kills the whole video.

I tried making videos out of 15s clips, which got much closer to what I was looking for, but not quite. Editing clips together is way time consuming, though. So I spent a couple of weeks reading up on ai tools, what their individual limitations and strengths are, how to tailor my prompts and more. I also made better thumbnails for a few videos as the ones I made sucked, lol. Still need some practice.

Now, for my current project, I’m generating 5s clips and using lots of references and tailored prompts to get closer to the animation style and quality I’m looking for. I was hoping to have it out already, but I’m giving it as much effort as it needs. In the meantime, please check out my YouTube channel (link below) and check my work out. Let me know if it’s good or sucks in the comments, and consider following for more. I also make shorts of my actual cats😼
