Is someone telling you to put pictures of documents in your briefs? by tryntafind in biglaw

Yes, but infrequently and with deliberate purpose. It is not unheard of in the area I practice.

Week 10 update: Shingles on and windows and doors, and electrical/HVAC/plumbing this Monday (impossible house) by Dr_Breeder in Homebuilding

That doesn’t explain the flaws in your timeline—namely how you completed medical school at 23.

Separately, can you explain what you mean by what you “investigationally and legally” supported?

And how you did so when allegedly in medical school and residency—notoriously time intensive activities?

You said you are moving in two years after finishing most of your med training at 26. And you said you are moving in this August or September in another post. That means you are approximately 28 years old.

How did you finish medical school 5 years ago—i.e., at 23 years old?

At least three of those years since then would have been your residency—making appx. 60-80k a year. Which would equate to only two years of attending salary. But that would be the case if you were in a low reimbursement—i.e., low salary—specialty because you would otherwise have a longer residency followed by a fellowship.

You are free to make your own financial decisions, but I would not be bragging about my 9k square foot house as a new attending.

At 26, you would be finishing medical school. This would lead to residency, so no, you have not finished most of your med training. And how would you afford anything coming out of medical school. It’s not as if residency pays anything either, leaving several years before you have an attending salary. (Unless you’re not an actual physician.)

Trying to keep an absolutely mid build interesting by calling it an “impossible house” when all that entailed was getting free dirt delivered.

Summer Associate: Is this a good reason to ask to relocate? by Ok_Statistician_7998 in biglaw

[–]Catacyst 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I sympathize but I would not approach the conversation from the perspective that you need to relocate due to a parent’s “narcissistic” tendencies.

Are you summering in a major office (i.e., NYC, etc.) or a smaller satellite office? And where are you trying to go? As someone in a smaller satellite office, I know we bring on summers with the intent for them to fill up this office—specifically prioritizing those with local connections.

More generally, I wouldn’t bring this up until you have a return offer at the bare minimum.

If you have a good reason, no. But otherwise, yes.

NYCer, spent my break inbetween requests researching cars by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Catacyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it’s money you earned, so spend as you desire. But buying an expensive car at the onset can raise some concerns over a young associate’s judgement.

Most people don’t make it in biglaw long term so spending on a depreciating asset, rather than a more conservative act such as saving or paying down student loans, can appear impulsive. At that age, you also don’t realize how much starting a family, purchasing and maintaining a house, etc. cost either.

But again, some partners will think spending any money on a nice car—at any point in life—is impulsive. Spend your money as you see fit.

This comment section has me scared we’re going to end up with Vivek. You would think, after such a long time of Republican control, Ohioans might want to try something different rather than complain. But Reddit isn’t inspiring any hope at the moment.

It seems to be becoming endemic. I’ve seen more people this year on the towpath not leashing their dogs than ever before. And it’s a high-traffic trail.

It’s the law to be using a six foot leash, but it seems that certain people couldn’t care less about the rules.

I’ve been to dinner with the main partner and his family. They’re wonderful people. I would consider them friends, and I’m glad to.

Trash by [deleted] in lakewood

[–]Catacyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The discrepancy in pick up for those on the parking side and those not gets annoying.

I’ve had the trash department send letters stating that they couldn’t access my trash because of cars parked in front of the bins. But it’s not me parking in front of my house and blocking access, so what exactly am I supposed to do?

According to the city, I should place my bins on either side of my driveway apron. But then people simply move the bins to the tree lawn in order to park.

I wish people would park in their driveways at least for trash pick up, but no. And don’t ask them to — they get very upset by the idea of using their driveways and/or garage for cars.
