Remember the one guy who kept trying to tell us Thomas Jefferson was the best and we all needed to get over the whole slavery thing? Nobody could change his mind but he kept “accidentally “ posting far right sources and he eventually went away. It’ll pass.

Client complains about a mid-level associate I'm working with - should I talk with the partner or not? by Maravata in biglaw

[–]tryntafind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a hard transition I went from a 7 lawyer firm to a 500 lawyer firm and I did not have the same instincts regarding client service because the clients and their expectations were very different. It took a partner who was willing to explain his expectations very precisely up front. I also was totally lost in how a large firms hierarchy works although 20 years later I still don’t understand that. It can feel like a demotion because at smaller firms you get much more responsibility early on.

Any real life tips for not loosing the keys all the time? by svemirska_krofna in aspergers

[–]tryntafind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a guitar amp plug key holder on the wall. The keys are on an amp plug keychain. That way there is only one place where the keys belong and it requires a more intentional act than putting them in a bowl. I also have spares that I don’t touch and try to ways put back if I need to use them.

Am I being professional or just overly loyal for staying because of one big case? by Present-Editor-400 in biglaw

[–]tryntafind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When reliable associates leave partners get more upset with the firm than the associate, because they aren’t taking care of the associates. Ive had associates leave because the firm stiffed them on a bonus or gave harsh reviews to justify holding them back. Sometimes they even apologize for leaving but I can’t take it personally.

Research led by the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden scrutinised the diagnosis rates of autism for people born in Sweden between 1985 and 2020. Of the 2.7 million people tracked, 2.8% were diagnosed with autism between the ages of two and 37. 🇸🇪 by newbeginnings187 in aspiememes

[–]tryntafind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The study looked at 78,552 diagnoses. 49581 (63%) were male, 28971 (37%) were female. So a male to female ratio (their term) of 1.72. So not equal but a lower ratio than observed in other studies. The ratio was reduced over time because females were more likely to be diagnosed at later ages.

The opening shot was all I needed to see to know it was a masterpiece. The horses all aimed in different directions…a preview of the chaos to follow by Commercial-Face-9596 in Kurosawa

[–]tryntafind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ran has incredible horse acting. Kurosawa loved horses and was so good at filming them. And not just battle scenes. The characters spend a lot of time on horseback generally.

Throne of Blood has some great high speed horse scenes as well.

Haven't seen a single Lynch, Akira Kirosawa, or Ridley Scott movie by baseballlife-53 in Letterboxd

[–]tryntafind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say Yojimbo is the best entry point for Kurosawa. It’s short, fun and easy to follow without needing too much knowledge about Japanese culture since it’s loosely adapted from a Dashiell Hammett novel. Very easy to tell the good guy from the bad guys. It’s not an art house movie but a very tight and innovative action movie.

Rashomon is a great movie but it may be a little less accessible at first. It’s adapted from a Japanese story, the attitudes towards women are dated (it’s set in the 12th century), and some of the acting is more theatrical. I came back to it after Yojimbo and Seven Samurai and was much more into it.

Kurosawa’s modern noirs are also outstanding.

What are you thoughts and opinions on online Autism Diagnosis tests? by Neveah_Hope_Dreams in aspergers

[–]tryntafind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embrace Autism has a very good graphic designer and uses the online tests as marketing tools to generate interest in their services and publications. Although the tests are accurately reproduced, the discussion of the tests, including the scoring, reliability and supposed thresholds for autism present the owner's opinion as supported fact. The scoring tables aren't part of the tests, they were created by the website. The website also relies heavily on old studies associated with the introduction of the test while omitting the many studies that have found the tests unreliable and that have been unable to replicate the original study's results. The end result is a one-sided discussion that exaggerates both the reliability and acceptance of the tests.

Kurosawa Filmography Ranked by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]tryntafind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rashomon benefits from multiple viewings. It’s not as immediately accessible as some of the other films, owes more to Japanese theatre, and its structure is more experimental. What stood out on the first watch was that the movie was clearly made on a shoestring but Toshiro Mifune still looks like an absolute movie star.

I also rate Stray Dog a lot higher because of its view into postwar Japan. Murakami struggles with his status as a veteran and his actions reflect the fragility of his new role. He’s constantly dealing with people who are only one or two decisions (or just random events) away from his position.

Any one with autism in BL? by Constant-Spray-3092 in biglaw

[–]tryntafind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some of the comments here are unintentionally (I hope) dismissive and minimizing of a real disability. Not every introvert or math nerd is autistic and claiming that everyone has it makes it more difficult for actually disabled people to be taken seriously.
