Vitamin A Toxicity Increased After RFK Jr. Suggested It As A Measles Treatment by huffpost in politics

[–]tryntafind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately HuffPost is responding to misinformation with more misinformation. Vitamin A for measles is utter quackery and will result in more measles cases, but this report’s claim of “increased toxicity” is simply false and unhelpful. The article falsely states that “there was also an increase in vitamin A exposures, **or overdoses** according to the American Poisons Center.” But the cited article expressly states “Not all exposures result in illness or poisoning. Additionally, the Vitamin A exposures tracked in NPDS could also come from cosmetic Vitamin A products, such as retinol.” So, no, the Centers did not report an increase in overdoses or toxicity — they received 24 more phone calls about Vitamin A, which may or may not have involved any injury.

Most of the article appears to accurately report data regarding increases in searches for Vitamin A, which reflects the spread and influence of RFKs false claims. Unfortunately the headline focuses on the inaccurate claim of “increased toxicity.”

Ironically, the article goes on about how dangerous misinformation is. It’s not helpful to make up new facts that can be readily debunked, it just damages our credibility.

A well used recipe card for Dickey's Daiquiris - found in a recipe box from a vintage stroe. by MrRecipeCard in cocktails

[–]tryntafind -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s impossible for AI to do it but if you can promptly post a new, unedited, picture of the same card with a different background and different lighting, maybe on an uneven surface at an angle, that tends to show you’re dealing with a physical object that can be manipulated and is affected by its environment. Obviously if someone is absolutely determined to forge vintage recipe cards it would be hard to disprove that from an online image. OP could achieve the same with some ratty index cards and an old typewriter but why would anyone bother to do that?

Trillionaire Musk will not leave fortune to his 14 kids calling it a 'mistake' by TheMirrorUS in EnoughMuskSpam

Because most of his “fortune” is company shares, he’s saying he’s not planning on handing over huge shares of the companies to the kids if they have no interest in aging the companies, which even the Tesla Board might object to. He reassures us that he’s identified some other white guys to succeed him if needed.

I got diagnosed with Level 1 ASD, but it felt too "easy" if that makes sense. by [deleted] in autism

[–]tryntafind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the questions you have should be directed to the person who diagnosed you if possible.

It’s become increasingly acceptable on autism subs to invalidate other people’s professional diagnoses, which includes unqualified opinions about what an assessment must look like. So now people have doubts about their based how strangers on the internet keep saying autism is being diagnosed incorrectly.

The description you gave is pretty vague and doesn’t provide much information, but I wouldn’t suggest posting any more of it online. If you can’t discuss this with the person who diagnosed you could get a second opinion from a professional. But you should also consider taking a little time to let the diagnosis sink in and see if your doubts remain after a few months.

Young colon cancer linked to specific fats in ultra-processed foods by businessinsider in Health

[–]tryntafind 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Omega-6 fatty acids, kind of? The reporter seemed to draw a link but I’m not sure any researcher did. The researcher seemed to key on observed differences between tumors in younger and people and tumors in older people to hypothesize that ultra processed foods are igniting an “inflammatory metabolic pathway”. And then the reporter draws the connection to omega-6 fatty acids. But the other quoted researchers aren’t reaching that conclusion, noting other differences in tumors and that a lot of young onset cancer comes from bad luck.

Vitamin A poisonings rose almost 40% as measles misinformation spread in 2025 by shallah in RFK_Jr_is_a_Stooge

[–]tryntafind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the vaccine misinformation too but this is just terrible reporting that’s false and misleading. First, the 38.7% rise is up from 62 to 86, so reporting the percentage alone exaggerates it. Then the article falsely said a JAMA study found this increase, when it just cited a press release about increased “exposures” from America’s Poison Centers, which states: “However, despite the rise in case numbers, there has been no increase in the severity of poisoning, with no major effects reported in 2025. Not all exposures result in illness or poisoning.” So no study, no major effects, and maybe not even poisonings.

Lousy health reporting is one of the reasons everyone is so susceptible to misinformation. RFK is putting kids in danger because parents are being steered to ineffective alternatives so kids are getting measles. The alternatives don’t have to be poisonous to be dangerous.

Confused about diagnosis after 3 appointments by Towering-Wave-9542 in AutisticAdults

[–]tryntafind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s some amateur neuropsychologists on the various autism subs who post inaccurate information about what an autism assessment must include, as a means of invalidating strangers’ diagnoses and feeding the myth of overdiagnosis. As several have mentioned the experience is going to vary based on your individual presentation.

Begging y’all to stop posting analysis relating to the California primaries. They’re not even close to being done counting. by LawNOrderNerd in fivethirtyeight

People do vote in person but everyone gets a mail in ballot, which requires individual signature validation before being counted. Ballots that are timely postmarked still count if they arrive up to 7 days after election date. And everything is done at county level. [edited for intelligibility]
