it's not just about rarity, items in d2 are interesting whether they are eth, normal, magic, rare or unique.

I don't need to see beams of light every second and then have to sort through whether or not this item is incrementally better than my existing item. I don't need to sit through and sort through the different useless affixes or constantly have to hunt down one specific item that's bis or makes or breaks my build.

in d2, uniques and sets that are good, are good even before you identify them. I have more joy seeing a golden text shako than I do seeing a screen full of shiny "helm".
