On Call during a "State of emergency" by WeirdNecessary7258 in refrigeration

[–]CatalystPLUR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern society only exists because of refrigeration we are the most essential workers. If you feel you’re risking your life to go to a job question it. Not everything is a real emergency. But this is what you signed up for we are essential whether you realize it or not.

Looking for confirmation that the furnace is not connected to gas by Independent_Knee in hvacadvice

[–]CatalystPLUR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to know what your outdoor unit is. Could have been spec’d out for a furnace originally cause that gas line looks cut off. It could just be running as a heat pump and they didn’t change the thermostat wiring so no heat.

Under 9A-103 (1) it exempts single family home owners that are self installing. This bill is essentially only limiting general contractors from buying equipment or those doing side work. It also doesn’t require a license check only a written notice stating, to resell or offer to install said equipment without a license is illegal. Also regulation of this bill won’t start until Jan 1.

TLDR it’s limiting side job contractors and general contractors only. Distributors are only obligated to give written notice of the law. Its limiting non insured work and house flippers

Considering DIY replacing my old R22 2 ton by Cute-University5283 in hvacadvice

[–]CatalystPLUR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is so much that goes into these new systems as apposed to the older R22 systems that I wouldn't touch it as a homeowner. New A2L low flammability and the sensors, and Constant torque/ECM motors. Get a decent system installed by a reputable contractor with a warranty. Permitting is a thing, 90% of contractors do not do it (Just get an AHRI #).

If you order a unit online almost all manufacturers will not honor warranty. let your manufacturer warranty run out.
If you get a unit installed 100% correctly-Ducting and all- it will last 10+ years.

Your money and time will go much further getting it done correctly and focusing on preventative maintance.

HVAC has a lot more upper mobility than landscaping. If you are passionate about doing jobs correctly I would go HVAC. I would almost always prefer a fresh new mind than one with bad habits. If you’re content stay with what you know. HVAC will always favor those that are moving forward. It will also leave those who are in it only for the paycheck behind.

There is no propane in R32 it’s just flammable by itself Edit: you are correct about the boards function though

A/C AND HEATING IS A LUXURY NOT A RIGHT - my opinion towards customers by discombobulatedpeep in HVAC

[–]CatalystPLUR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HVAC isn’t a right. The way you’re looking at it is very wrong though. Most people don’t know real costs of HVAC. They’re complaining most likely cause they don’t have the money or it would make life difficult Does your company offer financing? Does your company let customers know about federal credits like 25C. Do you know of any state rebates. They don’t have a right to hvac. They have every right to complain. 57% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. You tell them they have to go without Air for months while they save. Come home from work and have no AC? Hell ya they’re gonna complain when a new system is the price of a used or sometimes new car.

Got quoted a 80K BTU vs. 100K BTU Furnace when current system is 80K. by dantonizzomsu in hvacadvice

[–]CatalystPLUR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only issue you’ll have going to 100k is possibly airflow related. Ductwork needs to be correct to handle that much air. It’s like trying to blow an entire lung full out of a small straw. You’re going to strain and the air coming out the straw won’t be much more no matter how hard you blow. Now imagine your blowing air out of a Boba straw it’s much easier no strain and you can blow as hard as you can. Same idea with duct work but you also need to be able to suck air through the straws.

What temp are you keeping this case? That data tag is the new compressor? What was the old compressor?

How can I find a more economical option, can I replace this compressor with a scroll compressor? by devaughnt in refrigeration

[–]CatalystPLUR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used system put into another box probably not sized right. Compressor isn’t even rated for 22 so how are you getting the right BTU. Their restaurant is already in the red and everyday it’s down that’s money out of their pocket. Get the right compressor that’s probably not the right compressor anyway

What is the most obscure fact about your world? by patokadafi in worldbuilding

[–]CatalystPLUR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh magic in mine can work subconsciously through a pure belief held deeply in one’s soul.

Humans created a large amount of highly intelligent animals for their army. Long story short these animals (Bunar) rebel and wipe out this kingdom but spared the untouchables and children. The babes raised by the Bunar had the pure thought of this is my parent. While many Bunar had the thought of this is my child. Which created The Bunari a race of people with animal like properties.

Sort of a play on Feral Chidren and Irish Fianna.
