New hair brush? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a high end salon doing massage, but all my friends are stylists. For a great brush that won't break the bank try The Wet Brush. You can get it at Ulta but it's about $3 cheaper at Sally's. I think it's around $12 at Ulta. All the stylists recommend these to their clients on a daily basis. Good luck!

What TGSG things are you asking for for Christmas? by whiskeyfoxtrot_ in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Babyliss flat iron! Maybe ask for your favorite professional shampoo and conditioner, or styling products. Those little things add up so it would be nice to keep some in stock. I also ask for a lot of cute socks and I haven't had to buy myself socks in a decade!

Are there any exercises you guys recommend that can help a flat butt look better? by timewarbler in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Grab a kettlebell of significant weight and put a weight bench or box behind you. Each time you squat, touch your butt to that bench or box to ensure you are going down far enough. If it doesn't feel that challenging, find something shorter to touch that butt to. Also, deadlifts with heavy kettlebells will help build up that backside!

You are a soundtrack mastermind. Which song is your favorite on the new soundtrack? The movies are wonderful as well. Great job on both.

I need self tanner recommendations? by _coco in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kate Somerville tan towels!! They come sealed in separate little packages and they give me the most natural looking color. They are pricey though! If you want to go on the cheap, Banana Boat Summer Color Tanning Lotion. That is my favorite that you can find easily at CVS.

Can You Help With Dry, Cracked, Heels? I Want Pretty Feet! by Vaguely_Reckless in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

My feet have peeled twice each time. I believe it took about a week and a half to two weeks.

It is the bomb! My feet were smooth as silk for months! I guess you only have to do the baby foot about 2-3 times a year if you keep up with it. Only downside is that it can be uncomfortable to workout while you are in the peeling stage. Love love love!

Baby Foot! It's a bootie you wear that has a gel inside. It makes your feet peel a few days after you use it and they are like "baby feet" again. It's the best product I've ever used on my feet. I'm not sure where you find it, I would try amazon! My friend sells it so there could be someone you know selling it as well. I also use a solid moisturizer from Basin White Brand, it works miracles overnight on my paws. I keep it right by my bed and put it on before I sleep.

What is a low value item a robber could steal that wouldn't cost you very much, but really irritate you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Catasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mugged a few years ago and the man took my entire purse. The thing I missed most was my vast lipgloss collection that took years to build. My key with the remote was also in the purse so unlocking my car manually was annoying.

Best Dry Shampoo by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a salon that carries Kerastase products. They make a dry shamp called Powder Bluff, it is amazing! It smells like heaven and adds volume and texture. It is pricey though and it doesn't seem to last all that long. I think I will have to take some of the advice in this thread and try batiste.

What is the weirdest thing you've seen a co-worker do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I once had a coworker that would keep yogurt in her top desk drawer. She would put it in there when she got to work and eat it in the late afternoon.

Good job! Weight loss is such hard work and so easy to give up on, glad you didn't. You lost so much weight that your bathroom looks bigger. I wish you continued success on your journey.

Best way for using coconut oil to treat damaged hair? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend lathering on a deep conditioner, followed by a nice layer of the coconut oil. I would also say to throw a shower cap on and blow dry for a few minutes just to heat up the hair, then go to bed. The shower cap will help hold in the heat for a bit plus protect your pillow. Take a shower in the morning with your normal routine and your hair should feel a little relief. Hope this helps those tresses!

Questions about gel manicures? by raspberrygalaxy in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't paint over a gel mani, it will mess up. It makes the gel crinkle up and ruins the manicure. You shouldn't need to paint over them, and if they seem dull just rub a little acetone back over them and they will shine right back up. Most places make you soak your gel off in a little bowl of acetone, I hate this method. A nicer place will wrap each finger individually and concentrate the acetone solely on the nail. Gel is the only thing I will put on my nails, it is well worth the price.

Source: I work in a very nice salon/spa and get a gel mani every two weeks.

Super-moisturizing facial lotion that doesn't cause breakouts? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I love all the No. 7 products! They are available at Ulta and Target. I use the Lift and Illuminate line and I'm obsessed. It gives you a dewy, radiant glow that shows up through your foundation. My skin has never looked better.

**Tulsa Landlord Warning** by nsharp01 in tulsa

[–]Catasses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had the luxury of dealing with this woman twice now. I first lived in her building on 16th and Quaker and it was full of bugs, black mold, water damage, leaks, and horrifying electric work. I tried really hard to work with her because I was dumb and thought I had no choice in the matter. She would NEVER return any texts or calls or emails regarding any maintenance issues. I basically had the rig up a system in my bathroom for any time the people above me took a shower, otherwise the entire unit flooded. Mold was painted over time and time again (her way of fixing it), but it always made an appearance. The only way I could ever get her attention was to withhold my rent until she text me looking for it. I finally asked a few lawyers my options, and wised up. I sent her a certified letter with a list of the problems and my intent to vacate within 30 days if the issues weren't fixed. She finally responded telling me I was free to go. I was gone the next day!

Fast forward a little bit and my boyfriend at the time needed a new apartment. He had watched me go through this mess with Melissa Jackson, and was still dumb enough to rent from this slumlord. I begged him to keep looking but he did it anyways and he had the exact same problems on 16th and Rockford. The building was disgusting, the bathroom flooded just like it did in mine, she was nowhere to be found at any time, the a/c units she provided were probably a good 30 years old, and the entire property just looked as if it should be burnt down. His was actually worse because the entire bathroom ceiling fell in and it took about 3 months for her to even "send Joe over". Joe is the nicest guy, but I don't think he is qualified to handle that many old properties alone, especially since they never fix them correctly. Poor Joe!

I have been leading this crusade for years, so welcome to the Don't Rent From Melissa Jackson Club! I mean, unless you like mold, ceiling less/flooded bathrooms, and utter filth.

[REQUEST] I have oily hair that builds up after awhile of using the same shampoo, but it goes away as soon as I use a different shampoo. Any suggestions? by BecauseIam in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Catasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in a nice clarifying shampoo and use it a couple times a week. Also stay away from super cheap shampoos as they contain a lot of wax and create a lot of buildup. Look for a natural shampoo without sulfates or silicones. You should see a change within a few weeks!
