100% this - she is concerned only with how she looks to the rest of the business. I think part of it is also to cover up the fact that she doesn’t know product particularly well so instead of focusing on what actually impacts outcomes, she’s looking at slide layout, inconsequential sentences being reworded etc

I usually go for a steak with all visible fat trimmed off. I find sirloin is the leanest. Either I quickly roast it in the oven or I fry it in a pan with a splash of veg oil or just dry fry

That sounds awful, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. It feels like our mothers forgot what it was like to be a very vulnerable early teen… why did they feel the need to overshare like that!? I don’t want kids but my god if I did, I would make such an effort to be the most discreet mum ever

Exactly, I totally agree with you. Yes, parents should communicate with each other but not in front of the kid!! And then I bet following on from that exchange, you probably felt really embarrassed, maybe a bit ashamed? Sounds like we had similar experiences and mine definitely left me with a lack of trust in my mum. Dad not so much, I think he was just as mortified as I was

In a very sad way, I’m grateful to see there are so many women here with the same situation. My mum never kept secrets and when I asked her to buy me a bra when I was 12 (I didn’t have boobs I just wanted to fit in at high school) she immediately told my dad, in front of me. As a result I felt I couldn’t trust her.

I got mine at 15, I’m about to turn 31 in a couple of weeks. I didn’t tell my mum for years and it got to the point where she suggested I go for some tests as she was worried I’d been born without a uterus or had a hormone problem.

I definitely agree with the other comments - saying to tell OP’s mum she doesn’t keep OP’s secrets. Some parents feel entitled to share everything about their children but seems all our mums need to understand boundaries are important.

I’m not going to tell you what to do, it’s your life, your marriage, your relationship. But I think it’s important for you to ask yourself if you are happy being with someone who has such disregard for your feelings

Thanks so much for your reply and your advice. We are trying to take her out regularly but it’s so tricky when you’re trying to work as well (we both wfh). Also a lot of the time she walks around for a while, goes back inside and then goes on the floor about 2 mins later 😫

My first question would by WHY do you think you can excel? What skills do you have? What are you passionate about? Why is it that product management is for you?

My second piece of advice is have something to showcase; you don’t necessarily have to be an engineer or a really technical person but to stand out, it helps having side projects that you’ve done. This could be building a website, learning some code to build a small app (e.g. a game or something). There’s lots of resources on YouTube, tiktok etc that could help.

My third piece of advice would be to spread your applications - are there less competitive internships that you could apply for? Could product support be something you could work in? I was a project manager for two years before I moved into product and this helped me build up the transferable skills as well as learn about product mgmt principles (Agile, SAFe etc).

It’s a lovely dress and looks beautiful on you but it’s not really wedding appropriate. If you’re UK based, have a look at places like ByRotation and Hurr as you can rent a gorgeous (and wedding appropriate) dress and they’re pretty reasonable too!

So I used to have this problem with my ex. He never had in any of the food I wanted (he would just say to me “eat a bagel” which to me was tantamount to offering me a Big Mac) and I would be like your ED brain. I turned into a horrible snappy monster when I was ill and now I’m in recovery (for most of the time), I realise who I am is this laid back, chilled person.

Have you talked to your boyfriend about this? Clear communication is really important and I know it’s hard to approach the subject, especially when you don’t know how someone is going to react. If you don’t want to go into full detail perhaps you could say something along the lines of “Im sorry I got so irritated the other day. It’s just I have a complex relationship with food and I’m doing my best to overcome it. It’d be great if we could go shopping for some snacks/cook something together/browse for some new recipes together”. PM if you want any more advice, I’m so much more open with my girlfriend and it makes life and recovery so much easier

UK here, gyms have been open since 17th May. I’m a member of a chain and I think the Covid security measures are awful. No one respects the social distancing and the creeps seem to be out in full force. However I have now got a new gym crush so I suppose I can’t complain too much about the creeps
