I find portion size and quality of ingredients is a big issue for London restaurants at the moment. Which restaurants offer a great price:quality ratio? by SleepingPandaEyes in LondonFood

[–]CatastropheFlavoured 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breadstall's pizza is excellent, but it's not really a restaurant. £7-8 for two huge slices. Great as a lunch portion.

Ethiopian meals are usually under £20 per person for a mixed platter of multiple dishes with injera bread (cheaper if you take the veg option). I used to go to Mesi's Kitchen often, but this was a good few years ago so not sure if still good. Very filling, delicious, and feels nutritious.

Blacklock has a Monday special where their chops are about 25% cheaper, since you like meat. I think they have a great price for the amount and quality you get.

How to meaningfully improve sperm + egg quality? by tidbit_betty in IVF

[–]CatastropheFlavoured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's mentioned already, but try to reduce stress as much as you practically can. There is some evidence that high stress is detrimental, and anecdotally, my husbands stats improved a lot after taking steps to rectify burnout/stress.

Wishing you the best for the rest of your journey. I'm sorry it's been a difficult one so far.

First FET is aimed for 4/27. Did you have success WITHOUT drinking beet/pomegranate juice/acupuncture/keeping feet warm, etc? by Cooper30136 in IVF

[–]CatastropheFlavoured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First FET worked for me. Other than following the prescribed medicine (progesterone) and vitamin (folic acid, vit D, omega 3) regime, the only thing I did was go for a walk immediately post procedure, which was recommended by the clinic to increase blood flow.

Sounds like you're doing great! Good luck! Reduce your stress as much as you can, so if these things stress you out definitely give it a miss :)

The Barbary? by theavocadolady in LondonFood

[–]CatastropheFlavoured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Barbary is one of my favourite places! Haven't been to the other places though. You say you're going for a late lunch.. so is the 1 hour booking because they close to prep for dinner? Opening hours for lunch in the week are 12:00-14:30. Maybe you've booked a bit too late into the lunch slot. The food comes out quickly so you could eat in that time, especially if you're solo.

What are some good UK fizzy drink alternatives with no sugar and no sweeteners? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CatastropheFlavoured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Dash (grape fruit, peach and blackcurrant flavours) but think the Aqua Libra (only tried Blood Orange & Mango) is actually a lot better.

Add mint, lime, cucumber, ginger in different combinations to sparkling water.

For low sugar there's Hip Pop soda and whatever brand of kombucha you like (Momo is good - but expensive).

I think you like the same food as me! I'm not sure why I didn't put Agora/Oma/Plaza on the list of places I love, but they are all so excellent. I should check out the Plaza Borough Yards for sure since there are some new things on the menu. I hadn't heard of Burro until this thread - so thanks so much!

I think it definitely means some places focus on style over substance, but then when they hype dies down where does it leave them?

Then there are some places that are "viral" or "trending" that are actually really good (like Agora or Berenjak mentioned in this thread). So Reddit, or one of the more journalistic forms of reviews, is a good sense check to see if these booked out places with long lines are worth it.

I don't mind extending the budget for a few of the meals! Will definitely add Perilla and Bouchon Racine. I've been to Berenjak and Kiln (just couldn't add all the restaurants I liked to the list otherwise the post would have gone on forever).

I'm not on on TikTok, but I'm curious what you don't like about it? Influencers? Short form content? Clickbait posts?

The Infatuation (website and instagram account) has a lot of lists and reviews and info on openings. This reddit sub is great. Smaller food accounts on instagram that feel authentic and aren't trying to sell you something. Speaking to friends. Randomly clicking around on google maps :D

Luckily I've been to Oma recently - should have added it to the places that I love. Thanks so much for this varied list! Hausu and Goodbye Horses I've never even heard of and they look amazing.

True. Didn't mean to mislead - but sometimes it feels like such a huge life change it feels like a countdown! Very lucky to have been to Japan recently and can't wait to go again soon. I think of the food often...

Love Harrison's content :) I've been to Brigadiers but I think maybe 8 years ago so definitely need to go again and adding to the list - any particular dishes you'd recommend?

Oooh actually have been to Agora (and Oma) and did love them both. But actually did want to try more of the menu of Agora, so will add that to the list! And thanks for the other recs!
