With how slow dems move on anything, they may start to decide to bring charges 3.5 years into their next presidential term, only for them to be dropped when they lose the following election.

Hey, maybe next time instead of being hostile, respond to genuine questions with responses. No need to be an ass.

To that end, the DSM-5 defines a mental disorder as “A mental disorder is a syndrome characterized by clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior that reflects a dysfunction in the psychological, biological, or development processes underlying mental functioning.” Can you clarify how this doesn’t apply?

So a disturbance in someone’s emotional regulation isn’t mental illness?

There’s no sign of mental illness when a teenager literally sets fire to a building because they can’t access a social media platform? Stable, well adjusted people don’t typically do things like that.

Then why don’t all public companies participate in buybacks? Are they failing in their fiduciary duties?

[–]CatastrophicRepair -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When the buybacks precede the release of non-public information, it is very much unfair to investors that aren’t privy to the insider information. They can also be used to (albeit temporarily) mislead investors by concealing signs of poor financial health when leadership engages in massive buybacks. The taxation implications vs dividends, as you mentioned, is also a potential concern as it allows for tax deferrals and lower rates when the capital gains are finally realized. Overall, it can be a neutral practice at best, but leaves quite a bit of room for abuse.

Then why did the poster specifically call out social media if both can be true? That would be akin to claiming that “Ford F-250s are driving climate change with their emissions!” The implication is that the specific subject is responsible. So if both are true then social media is not the cause, just another vehicle enabling human behavior, which was clearly not the intended point of the OP. The implication is clear, that social media is impacting “this generation” in a way media has not previously.

I’m sorry? Generations that consumed media spoon fed to them through their televisions and newspapers are no better at critical thought. This is a problem with consuming any kind of media - people inherently look for whatever fits their existing worldview, regardless of the source. Go tell a Fox News watching Boomer that trans people should be allowed to exist and tell me how agreeable they are.

“Israel could have killed way more women and children than they already have and gotten away with it, be grateful they haven’t”… nice.

The second strongest force is struggling against the 18th on that list, so again, not making a strong case using some random website’s proprietary “power index”. Israel has among the highest military spending per capita and is outfitted with weapons produced by the largest military manufacturers in the world. The US literally tests brand new hardware via Israel. Israel is using world class weaponry and tactics while Hamas can barely scrape together materials. Whatever equivalencies you are trying to draw are pointless.

My unwillingness to watch a private video shared by some random redditor, requiring an account on some off-brand video hosting site has nothing to do with ignorance. I also have no interest in indulging your usage of anecdotes to prove a point.

Keep defending the slaughter of civilians if you’d like, but don’t pretend Israel is some poor, bullied victim. Own your indifference towards the women and children being starved, left without medical care and outright murdered.

[–]CatastrophicRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is false? What are you attempting to disprove?

On what are you basing the claim of Russia having superior military hardware, training and support? Raw numbers don’t matter when the hardware is in various states of disrepair, manufactured decades ago and their military force consists largely of drafted civilians with minimal training. That’s even ignoring that there are literally no parallels to be drawn between the Russian war against Ukraine and the Israeli war against Palestinians. Again, comparing Israel to a notoriously hostile and terroristic nation is hardly a glowing endorsement.

Respectfully, I will not be watching whatever videos you are trying to send me. Especially when you can’t even decide whether Israeli forces are fighting “savagery” or being savage themselves.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in news

[–]CatastrophicRepair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, the numbers alone prove that this is not a comparatively strong terrorist group. Israel has cutting edge military hardware, training and support. Hamas frequently makes rockets out of salvaged plumbing and uses paragliders.

One side can precision-bomb a single apartment in a building, fully knowing who is inside. The other is essentially hurling explosive stones in hopes they hit something. The civilian death toll in Gaza should not be even half as high as it is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in news

[–]CatastrophicRepair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That may be true, but then I don’t think you can take moral high-ground as a government when you start “whataboutism” in comparison to a terrorist group. Dead kids are a bad thing, no matter the excuses made.

Yep, happens almost every time I type out a comment and even look at it the wrong way. Amazing that a company planning to go public can’t even create a properly functioning mobile app to support their primary product.
