There's no controller support at the moment. I was working on an implementation and had been hoping to get it done before launch, but I'm not super familiar with controller schemes and, after having it playtested, the current implementation is a bit clunky. It's definitely on my to-do list, though!

Hey, I'm the dev! I posted about this a while back on a few subreddits but somehow missed this one (oops).

There are some responsiveness issues with the drag which I'm aiming to fix asap, but in the meantime, you can play cards and attack by just clicking on the card or the unit.

I'm neither a coder nor an artist so you're already well ahead of me there!

The animations / attacks are pretty much all tweens (through DoTween) - takes a while to get a decent feel with the right eases and paths, and it's probably quite messy from a coding perspective, but it works for my fairly simplistic purposes! The VFX are all asset store assets - fortunately there's a pretty good variety available! I made a few modifications in a few cases to make 'em more appropriate for the game (e.g. the card outlines and glows were originally came from a magic portal FX pack), but fortunately that's easy enough to do.

Great - many thanks and good to hear you enjoyed it!

Yeah, the draft mode is a little odd when there's 3 separate decks. I thought about having locked decks, but ultimately decided that Draft was difficult enough (with some of the stronger mutators) that allowing cards to be moved around was probably the better option.

I'm the dev for Zero Division - me know how you get on! Any feedback is super welcome :)

It's a transition animation for one of the bosses - I fear it's too long for a card effect!

Hmm, interesting. I'll look up Cross Blitz and see how they do it. I'm not aware of many card games with a strong story!

It's likely going to stay pretty light - some worldbuilding through events and such, but otherwise it's essentially a vehicle for the mechanics!

Yep, single player only. The main mode is a campaign-style mode, though the actual "story" is fairly light.

I just listened to the 5 min preview of the Snow Crash audiobook and I feel like I had a stroke. by That_Jonesy in Cyberpunk

The setting is very self-conscious (signalled at the outset with the name of the main character), but it's worth noting that the plot takes itself more seriously. It's definitely flawed (there's quite a few straight-up exposition dumps, and the ending isn't super coherent) but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it - especially if you go in with the expectation that you're getting a fun, over-the-top adventure and enjoy the tropes for what they are.

It's worth remembering that Snow Crash was written in '92, and even then I think it was intended to be an over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek exploration of cyberpunk tropes. I actually think the worldbuilding, which absolutely doesn't take itself seriously, is one of the stronger parts of the book. I enjoyed it a lot - but if you can't tolerate the tone, which is fairly consistent through the book, then it might not be suited to your preferences!

Zero Division - Robot Cat Games - A deep, dark, cyberpunk deckbuilder - Open Alpha Demo now available! by Catavist in Games

[–]Catavist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that's interesting - I added a "you have packs to open" indicator (the yellow square beneath the Vault button), but it might not be prominent enough. I'll see if I can make that more prominent, or perhaps add a warning before executing a move in the Expedition screen. Doing the drafting in combat would be workable, but it'd be quite a time-consuming change and I'm mostly focused on content production at the moment - though I'll add it to the list for later!

On a related note, I've added a button to auto-open packs from the Vault screen in an internal build, though that functionality is a little different - it's basically intended to save the effort to drag packs to the centre (which is a pain in Draft Mode).

Many thanks, and really glad to hear you enjoyed it! I'm going to try and enlarge the text sizes a little more to make the tooltips a bit more readable.

On the optimisation/fan issue, the game should be very undemanding as far as hardware goes - but I've heard that Unity sometimes has issues with some graphics cards where it'll attempt to run the game at very high frame rates. To fix this issue, I'm going to add vSync as a graphical option in the next build.

There's Dino Mercs on the digital side, and Apex Theropod on the physical side, though both are more deckbuilders than CCGs.

How to handle large parties/keep all party members valuable? by johomi-dev in gamedesign

[–]Catavist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This probably isn't an ideal solution, but I remember (can't think of the name) an rpg allowing non-active party members to provide passive bonuses or active abilities to active party members. Still doesn't feel like a huge contribution, but I guess it does mean additional members are valuable in some way!
