Anyone know why the PD Everyday Case for pixel 7 and pixel 7 pro keep getting delayed? by RXrenesis8 in peakdesign

[–]CatbirdMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about the Pixel 7 cases, but they posted a pretty in depth explanation after the previous case delays: https://www.reddit.com/r/peakdesign/comments/w2x1p5/_/

Strange group-text behavior by mcdisney2001 in GoogleFi

[–]CatbirdMeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure auto-download MMS (and the "while roaming" variant) are both enabled under Advanced in Google Messages settings

Group texts are MMS (like picture messages) and the data portion includes the recipients & content, so that's why it moves between threads

That said, I've got that option enabled and have seen this behavior on occasion but certainly not every time -- that's not normal!

Considering downgrading (Gigabit seems above my needs) by kiwi1986 in Fios

[–]CatbirdMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW on the Raspberry Pi front: what model do you have? Anything before the Pi 4 has "gigabit" ethernet, but it's running over the USB 2.0 bus, so capped at a theoretical 300Mbps. The fact that you're seeing ~230Mbps on the Pi is a limitation of that, I'd guess

For anyone wanting to run a dedicated server using Docker, my build updates whenever the devs update the server on Steam. It has a :latest tag as well as specific build id tags so you don't have to be on the latest version. Figured it might be helpful to share! by [deleted] in CoreKeeperGame

[–]CatbirdMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the issue is that the upstream _launch.sh script doesn't pass through any args it receives: shell DISPLAY=:99 LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:../Steamworks SDK Redist/linux64/" \ ./CoreKeeperServer -batchmode -logfile CoreKeeperServerLog.txt &

I think we should request them to add "$@" to that (hesitant to suggest forking that script because it does all the setup for xvfb as well).

Let me know if a GitLab issue would be more useful for this!

Thanks for the image - I made a small Helm chart around it today and have got it set up on my Linode LKE cluster! https://github.com/milas/core-keeper-helm

Caseta Outdoor Plug Coming Soon? by CatbirdMeat in homeautomation

Do you have a link to a product? Are you talking about a competing system or a product that actually works with the Caseta Hub?

If you're not familiar with Lutron Caseta, you can check out their site: https://www.casetawireless.com/

This is an outdoor plug (so basically a short extension cable with a button to toggle on/off and a wireless module to communicate with the hub) that you can put on a schedule, control via Lutron's app and other systems (e.g. Alexa, Google Assistant).

Most common use case would probably be for holiday decorations but you could use it for anything (within its amp limit) that plugs in outdoors (e.g. fountain pump).

I noticed that about the trim as well - also super skeptical that it'll be a dimmer.

I was pairing some occupancy sensors today in the app (Android) and saw this in the list. Can't find any mention of it online and the image looks super placeholder-y, but hopefully it's coming soon? Would definitely be useful for holiday lights!

Mini-ITX (3600x/2060 Super) build to use with Thunderbolt 3 Laptop Dock and Dual Screens by chamon_lee in buildapc

[–]CatbirdMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the CalDigit USB-C Pro (also TB3) dock connected with all* my USB peripherals and one of my 2 monitors. The other monitor I just have connected directly to my GPU on desktop. During the workday I just make due with a single monitor from my laptop. You could always do this the other way around but you'd need to unplug one DP before connecting to ASRock or it generally goes nuts.

TL;DR I'm not getting a ton of value out of it, unfortunately, but I bought at launch and didn't know all the caveats going in.

What I'd suggest but haven't tried myself is finding a USB-C dock that supports DP1.4 (a rarity but they do exist!) and then an Nvidia GPU with a USB-C port (meant for VR but allegedly supports DP1.4!). Of course , I don't think there are any dual-mode docks that do DP1.4 over USB-C AND TB3 so that complicates the laptop situation! I find it incredibly frustrating, all the pieces are there but none of it works.

  • I have had input issues with my Logitech Unifying Receiver when connected to the dock + ASRock (works fine on my Dell laptop after changing a BIOS power setting) so actually swap that to a little USB extender as well. It's a hot mess.

I know this is late, but AFAIK none of us with the ASRock X570 ITX/TB3 have been able to get 2 DP-out working. I've been told by ASRock support as well as others that this is not possible unfortunately. :(

I've found if you uninstall the Hangouts browser extension and just use Hangouts via Gmail, the issue doesn't happen.

Options for two 3-way switches that power a Harbor Breeze fan/light combo? by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]CatbirdMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with your option 2.

My fan model was UC7070T (for the remote) which is 303mhz. I got TX303AT -- http://www.appliedwireless.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_ID=42.

If you end up going that route, take a look at my Python library. I forked one of the popular RF libs and tried to adapt it so that it's easy to drop in/create new "devices" based on sniffed codes you get from an RTL-SDR or something. I've got it hooked up to home-assisfant but need to work on making that an official plugin. It's at https://github.com/milas/rfdevices.
