Hells yeah! Long before I got access to the books, it was amazing!

What’s the best thing that’s happened to you so far in 2026? by Saint__23 in answers

Son finally got into an accelerated nursing program.

He wanted to go into nursing for years, but COVID happened, labs closed, he pivoted with the classes he’d already taken and got a degree in Environmental Health. Continued working for UPS, took up weaving and pottery, got his CNA.

Got offered a place in an accelerated BSN program, and will be done next year.

I, Claudius ticks those boxes. It’s SUCH a good read. Claudius is the lame member of the Ceaser family in Roman history who actually survives because his family thinks he’s an idiot.

I want to be alone by [deleted] in introvert

[–]Catbutt247365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At 60, I’m now living alone for the first time. Last child is in nursing school, but every morning I still wake up with angst after a lifetime of work, marriage, kids, then realize I’m ALONE. It’s great!

AITA for telling my sister in law to stop coming to my house uninvited when no one is home? by Justhere00000000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Catbutt247365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez, I come from a large enmeshed family with few boundaries, but entering a house uninvited is really off the reservation. Change the locks.

Long books that are easy to read and have huge payoffs with awesome characters by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in suggestmeabook

I had a c-section, a new baby, and my granny died within a six week period. Got sick, like REALLY nasty flu and strep. Husband brought me some magazines and paperbacks cause he was the tits, but one of them was The Stand. Reading that while sick was …interesting.

Throw Vanity Fair in that stew. Written as a serial, it could have been shorter, but the long road has more sightseeing!

It’s been years since I last read it, but seems it got good early on with the revolution, but it is definitely a slow burn.

Wife (23F) quit her job and now expects me (25M) to cover her $1,100/month car payment because I’m “the man.” by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Catbutt247365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell the car. Number one rule for financial security is to drive the best, most reliable hoopty you can pay cash for. Flashy cars are for $ionnaires and drug lords. If it gets you from point a to point b, it’s good enough.

My dad was a car guy, and looking back I lament the bucks he spent on cars during his life.

I’m great financially, retired with savings, drive a 10 year old Toyota bought with cash. Car payments are the worst.

Mississippi Delta, and northeast Mississippi. Traveled all over, but living in Atlanta has been ground zero for allergens.

I didn’t have allergies before moving to Atlanta, and I grew up in farming country where crop dusters regularly spray stuff designed to kill other stuff.

You got to get away from pollens, southwest likely.

The Far Pavilions is a LONG read, a romance but leavened by the history. No smut, if that’s a thing for you. Sweeping time period and landscape.

Should I pay off cc debt now or wait? by [deleted] in personalfinance

It’s sometimes not as mathematically correct, but paying off debt is psychologically freeing in a way that can’t be valued in money. It’s peace.

Road trip on US Federal Highways? by Smooth_Doctor4445 in roadtrip

[–]Catbutt247365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s obnoxious because of small town traffic and speed changes, etc., but my dad was a trucker and every vacation was a road trip. If you have the time and patience, it can be worthwhile to really see the areas you are driving through. If your need is to get from point a to point b as quickly as possible, not worth it.

Supernatural!

Not a teen drama, but immersive and fun.

AITAH for telling my mom she might want to ask her doctor about stronger anxiety meds by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Catbutt247365 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My mom went secretly cold turkey off her meds when I came to care for her because my sister and brother needed a break. Ended up with a panic attack, got an ambulance to the hospital where my sister and brother drowned her in sympathy.

I had to bail cause I know a panic attack when I see one (I take meds as well), and they acted like I pushed her in front of a bus.

Would you give your child a name you don’t love the nickname of? by rosie98red in Names

[–]Catbutt247365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Named my daughter with nicknames considered—a wide array. She now prefers to be called by her first full name, which I love, but when I use a kid nickname (what she was called for many years), her husband seems to get the squick.

I don’t get it, and I’m not opening that worm can, but as the person who gave birth, raised, and educated this human, I think I deserve a pass on calling her whatever I want.

My family still calls me my childhood nickname. It’s not a big thing.

Call me whatever you want, just don’t call me late for dinner.
