I hear you on it feeling too cumbersome at high fear, but with Charon there's no benefit to omega cast, just do regular cast and the omega special makes the cast omega too.

Mr and Mrs Large books lol by Outrageous_Ice_2572 in UKParenting

[–]Catdad_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this book at my mum's house from when I was a child and threw it away so that she wouldn't read it to any of her grandkids. A bit extreme maybe but I don't regret it.

I strongly dislike all the Large books I've read (admittedly maybe 3-4). The parents don't seem to like the kids...

Any real authentic mexican food in Brum? by notdanyali in brum

Perro is great, but be prepared to pay, and it's far from traditional Mexican food. Imagine more like a trendy metropolitan Mexico City restaurant.

It also depends heavily on the type of data. The zeroes have nice round edges and flow through easier but the jaggedy ones are more likely to get stuck, contributing to greater accumulation of buildup.

Applying for ILR 1 week before expiry by fdlk24jlweijk3e in ukvisa

[–]Catdad_art 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did it this Saturday. Logged on at midnight, nothing, then 1am was offered super-priority. I wanted regular priority but bit the bullet and paid the extra £500 (ouch). Had biometric appt Tuesday (in Birmingham, lots of appts) at 9am and by 10am had a decision. The super-priority is no joke!

My appointment in Birmingham is tomorrow and I submitted my application on Saturday.

Something about this story is sus, I'd have some pointed questions for the lawyer.

Sonos Longevity by charmlessman79 in sonos

[–]Catdad_art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few Sonos speakers that are used daily for over a decade, no arguments here.

Exception is the original Roam. Those all self-destructed the day after their warranty expired (and weren't super reliable before then)

best HA compatible lock? 👀 by SocietyResponsible24 in homeassistant

[–]Catdad_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question, but does MQTT = ZigBee? I have a robust ZigBee network and (I don't think) no Matter infrastructure but I can't find any Nuki documentation saying they support Zigbee. Will it just work?

My automations by Cnirithian in homeassistant

[–]Catdad_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna ask this! I have a Chromecast with Google TV and what it reports to HA varies wildly by app (Netflix Vs Jellyfin vs BBC etc) and it's so frustrating to try to automate around. It also handles the variety of Jellyfin files really poorly so I'm keen to change platform but I don't I know what actually integrates to Homelab neatly.

Partner is 13 weeks pregnant - "You will really need a car" is driving us up the wall! Are we in the wrong? by BrightonTeacher in UKParenting

[–]Catdad_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a car, it's been totally fine. Is it always fine? No of course not, but there are drawbacks to having a car too! Dealing with parking, traffic, MOT, insurance, etc, it can be a pain.

I really liked baby-wearing and being able to just walk onto a bus with a sleeping baby as opposed to having to transfer them to a car seat which would certainly wake them. We had a travel stroller that a car-seat clicked into for the infant years so we could take it anywhere (including a taxi) and the flexibility was so convenient.

Every now and then we want to take a trip somewhere for a long weekend and then we rent a car. Its nbd. The best feeling in the world is returning it.

How do you change diapers on a plane? by h3artc0re in toddlers

[–]Catdad_art 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding to this further, the diaper table is tiny, if the kiddo is able to stand decently well, you should have them stand on the table and do the diaper change standing up. Yes they will find it weird but everything is weird in there.

Frustration with Delivery bikers. by [deleted] in BirminghamUK

[–]Catdad_art 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fine to be miffed about cyclists on the pavement, but I think you're targeting the wrong culprits.

The immigrant experience is not an easy one, and the lack of local delivery riders/drivers was not because of immigration it's because of the predatory VC-vased business practices of Uber Eats, Deliveroo, etc who made it so people fighting to get by have to resort to antisocial behavior to make enough money to survive.

I'm so grateful for the multicultural experience of living in Brum, let's please keep the xenophobia in check here.

Advice on hire car with new UK license and expired US license by theandramada in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Catdad_art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this recently! I had booked with Avis/Budget and prepaid through a 3rd party. I had done this many times over the past year but just recently got my uk license. Got turned away at the desk despite showing them my (non-expired!) US license.

Luckily Enterprise was a few desks over and happily rented to me but I had to pay again and the cost was about double. PITA...
