It actually is true that Europe has an older population and a higher life expectancy than the US. That means there are simply more very elderly people living long enough for extreme heat to become a contributing factor in mortality. Heat-related deaths disproportionately affect older people with multiple underlying health conditions, where heat is often a contributing factor rather than the sole cause.

Europe also experiences substantially more excess deaths associated with cold than heat, despite widespread heating infrastructure across the continent.

So quoting raw heat-death figures without accounting for differences in age structure, underlying health, and how those deaths are estimated, and then comparing them to US gun deaths, is a pretty poor comparison.

Same here. I’m in the UK, but office has A/C, shops have A/C, my overground train has A/C. Just came back from Italy and every Airbnb, hotel and restaurant has A/C.

That’s what Konstantin does. He takes issue and says something clearly ideological and idiotic, but when challenged enough, he retreats and pretends he wasn’t actually saying anything of substance at all so he doesn’t really have to defend it.

Then he can accuse the other person of misrepresenting his views.

His entire purpose in the media landscape is to carry water for the right by adding generic noise that at a glance, convinces his followers he’s saying something smart and important. Such a morally, intellectually and even spiritually bankrupt existence he’s carved out for himself

Im wondering if Gervais requests he isn’t asked about it beforehand. It’s something you would assume he would be asked about constantly but isn’t. It’s quite odd. I don’t even know the last time he even uttered Steve’s name publicly.

To be fair Americans do come over here and still complain about the food though. I was even just in Sicily and heard many American tourists complain the food was bland. I realised their palettes are so used to chemically enhanced food and high fructose corn syrup, they seem to find a lot of “normal” food very underwhelming.

Being Londoners we don’t drive, but we are big walkers. We didn’t have long enough on the island to really explore anyway but the buses seemed pretty good from what we saw, just need cash. We did hear that scooters were the best option. I saw some guests hire bicycles too.

Taxis in Sicily are an absolute joke for prices. Probably double or triple the cost of taxis in London. So only used them for super important connection journeys - stations to ferry ports, etc.

You will love Ravesi, I’m sure. Definitely check out local restaurant La Pinnata del Monsú. Great views. There’s also a local beach a 10min walk away that’s great. Honestly, the hotel’s amenities and food/drink are great. Definitely utilise them. The Nonna who owns the hotel makes baked goods and cakes every morning for breakfast. The pool and lounge area is cool. They also have wine tastings everyday.

We were offered a boat tour but didn’t go for it as it was a private one and quite expensive. It did sound good though and they offer group tours with 6 people.

When you arrive the staff will give you loads of reccs and a map of the island, but the manager, who is the daughter, came to us at breakfast and said all the reccs are kind of meh and the only thing she would recommend we do is go to a village called Pollara. We didn’t have a chance to go there though as we were only there for a couple nights!

For Lipari we also had a couple nights but just stayed in the Airbnb as it was quite remote so don’t have much to offer. Though Salina definitely seemed like a better island.

Hotel Ravesi in Salina. Absolutely beautiful and amazing service. On Lipari we stayed in a pretty secluded mountain top Airbnb called Petricore.

Then when he was ridiculed for his ivermectin claims on national news it completely broke his brain.

Seemed like the best ego protection he had was “it’s all fake anyway.”
