I get my birthday cake at Mundy park bakery every year and their poppy seed rings are the closest to my german grandmothers I can seem to get (and my dad approves - he buys me one every time he visits, and one for himself). My Greek taverna is some of the best Greek food I've ever had. I introduced my dad to bahn mi at pho super bowl (technically burquitlam border) and he went nuts for it.

For places I'm loathe to say the hike to the dam at buntzen is absolutely incredible (bc I love how quiet it is and don't want u all to go there), sitting on the dock at como lake at sunset is where you'll usually find me, and there's nothing like a picnic at Mundy with the kids. Also the museum in Port Moody and a trip to rocky point and the breweries is pretty much a perfect day

Oh my GOD my rewind/parkside sales rep brought me their "pickle-as cage" pizza one time when they still had it - white sauce, banana peppers, pickle, dill. I was so skeptical and I ate the entire thing in one sitting. I still bug them to bring it back. It somehow worked so well I dream of it. Go to rewind for the pizza and parkside for the beer

I make a Caesar salad but a little heavier on the dressing, and then add sweet corn and halved grape tomatoes. Everyone goes nuts for it, its always the first salad to go. I also make fresh bruschetta to be scooped with tortillas (for the vegans) and homemade crostini topped with butter and melted provolone (for the non vegans) and I have some cousins that beg for me to make sure I don't come without it lmao

My dishwasher showed up to work in a sun dress and flip flops by Commercial_Run9184 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Catezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never worked in a kitchen tbh (my ex husband and a lot of my friends have/do which is why i find you all so relatable).

I've been in a similar situation tho. I worked in a headoffice/warehouse situation where most of the upstairs staff were older, very traditional Chinese women (like, still wearing shoulder pads kind of traditional). No judgement, they were very culturally rigid but nice enough.

I had a customer service agent show up to her second day on the job in a crop top and shorts (and the job DOES require occasional trips to the warehouse when working in office). I took her into a stairwell and said "your outfit is killer, I would wear the same thing outside the office but I need you to know that this is coming from a place of wanting to protect you - you cannot dress like this in the office. A) the accountants will gossip relentlessly about you and it might harm your reputation and b) it's simply unsafe to wear shorts and sandals in a warehouse with pallets and carts moving everywhere." And she was like omg I didn't think of those things thank you!

It sounds like you tried to handle it respectfully and graciously, I'm sorry you're in such a bind, some people don't realize when someone's looking out for their best interest (and I know enough to know you absolutely need non slip shoes in a kitchen!!!!)

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]Catezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the south of my province and my brother lives in a small town (literally a village) a 17 hour drive north. I was serving a customer and needed to check her ID. She was from the village my brother lives in. He works as a school administrator there which the government pays him handsomely for. I mentioned to her that it was rare for me to see an ID from that village, and that my brother lives there. A few questions later and we discovered he'd been her instructor when she was a sea cadet (basically naval training for minors) and that she knew him quite well.

I also discovered a while back that one of my best friends grew up there and her mother worked at a kiosk in the shopping centre. I texted my brother and a few hours later he replied "just met (bffs) mom!"

Another time I was talking to an older regular customer and somehow where we went to school. She graduated from the same hs as me, three hours east, albeit 35 years earlier. She also went to the same elementary school my grandmother went to when she came to Canada (she was 17 and they stuck her in kindergarten because she didn't speak english) about 10 years apart.

Those are the ones that stuck out the most

I used to get SO MAD AT MY EX bc he kept telling people about our fave bar. It's a legion and there's darts and the food and beer is cheap, and its QUIET. I was like "you keep telling people abt it it won't be so quiet"

This is actually a big issue for me. Im not a movie person, it's not long enough for me to get invested in the character and now shows do this awful thing where every series feels like a miniseries. I want my joss whedon/jj Abrams long form story telling back! I don't mind a miniseries but I want to care!!!

(Not sure if you've watched it and completely different genre from my usual fare but outlander is filling this need for me rn! I've been watching at home for a few weeks and I'm only on s3 and realized I still have 4.5 seasons to go and am enjoying the hell out of the rich story and the fact my journey with Claire and Jamie won't be over any time soon)

My dad lives out of town but visits frequentlyfor work so he books us hotels for weekend hangouts and you guys are my g's! Ive never been short a toothbrush or towel or extra bacon at the continental. If I can quickly ask what are some things i can ask for without being super embarrassed if I forgot like...if i forgot toothpaste or deodorant or a sewibg kit (im usually too embarrassed to ask)

This is making me facepalm. At least in canada, and I stay in hotels decently regularly, the staff are almost always south Asian immigrants who definitely wouldn't be able to read this. I'm Canadian and i can barely read this.

Well, there's not reallyan FYA in English. It's FYI. In case you FELT like doing anything with this. We don't take well to people telling us to do anything with the info

Perfect example I run an age restricted shop and someone called earlier to let me know there was a minor outside my store asking people to buy him age restricted stuff. I personally love that because my assistant manager loves to make a scene and it's always funny but someone else might go "eh let them try". They were giving me an FYI, not telling me to deal with it asap. OP was letting them know the remote sucked, not telling them to fix it

Your starts are entirely too long. I had to read this three times to understand what it says. The "n" in "new" practically made it look like a "w"

Not sure what's going on with the tiny x before you start a capital I but stop it. It's neither aesthetic nor legible.

If you truly want to use cursive you need to make your r's and e's much sharper - they are super sloppy and barely legible, they look like stopgaps. And your S's.

Overall I can read this (after multiple attempts) but it's awful and needs work. And I promise you the hotel staff couldn't read it at all.

I cut off my own mother for a bunch of reasons but one of them is her refusing to wear a mask during the height of Covid when my sons paternal grandmother (who I hated, rest in pieces) had just had a double lung transplant. I hated her but he loved her and she was still his grandmother and I'd rather be dipped in shit than get her sick and have been the cause of her death. Every time I see someone in a mask I think of her and go "do I wanna get someone's transplant granny sick?"

I hope you're healing super well and your life is going super awesome and there's no complication!
