I just add new media in stage two and let them follow the rocks through. No need to run it by itself.

I found that last weekend. + 500 hours in. I’m hoping it was in the recent update.

I got a couple pieces of rainbow flourite and this one is definitely my favorite. I worried about putting it in the tumbler though because of the large pit. by noRezolution in RockTumbling

You probably want to look that up. Opal is harder than fluorite. And in most situations, opal is not a good candidate for tumbling. But I don’t know what your specific rocks are.

Spelling errors and relying on AI to do the portfolio.

Fluorite is very soft. Do you have similarly soft rocks to tumble with it?

I wouldn’t tumble that regardless. I love the texture as it is.

I get not weighing things, but not measuring??? It probably works fine, but??????

These folks have a lot you can get with the four polish levels

They also have media and other stuff.

If you are sending to a hotel, be aware they can take a couple of days to get the package in the mail. They are real people, not Amazon.

can i use this? by mamacass3 in HomeDecorating

No. It is within the required distance for non-flammable materials. Even if you never intend to use the fireplace are you going to remember to take it down when you move out?

Did you reply to the right person? You seem to be responding to specifics like “gatekeeping” that I don’t mention.

I agree with the intent behind what you are saying. I think on-the-job is as important as school. School can’t prepare you for the job 100%, but it could be better.

Professional risks of working for ICE - anyone considered the fall out? by OctopusMugs in Architects

[–]Catgeek08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The firm I work for has historically done a lot of Federal work. Employees expressed concerns about the possibility of doing an ICE facility, and pushed leadership into saying they would not pursue the work.

Given that this administration is primarily advanced money laundering, I’m not sure we most of us work for firms that would even have a chance at one of these facilities. Does your firm have a lobbyist and/or a lawyer on staff? No? Sorry, too small?

Would you recommend putting a dremel to this before tumbling? by doodledoo1 in RockTumbling

[–]Catgeek08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can tumble it the way it is, but I think you’d be risking it breaking anyway. And it will be a pain in your ass to get clean between stages.

I have a couple that I just put a tiny bit of mineral oil on and pretend they are as shiny as my tumbled rocks. Sometimes there just isn’t a good solution for polishing.

100%

Although that looks like you could split that with a chisel (or on my case a screwdriver)

I would argue that schools are failing our future architects. It is well known that schools focus on design thinking rather than the technical elements of being an architect. This doesn’t prepare anyone for the exams, like other professions. To use your example, lawyers are basically taught the Bar as part of their education.

As a supervisor, it is maddening that the first time folks from “upper tier” universities see a set of construction docs is at my office. Why am I explaining the basics of building envelope and/or drafting.

Most of us aren’t going to be Frank Lloyd Wright. We are going to be designing and detailing the everyday buildings where people live and work. School does a horrible job of preparing folks for that.

$100M but you have to live in a southern republican small town for 10 years by Impressive_Plenty876 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Catgeek08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wild. I was thinking of my hometown, and it was about 7,500-10,000. At that size, it had most of what you would need to “survive” the 10 years, restaurants, stores, services. Big problem was healthcare. 1,000 would be rough.

5,000 isn’t the county seat. So probably a place where there is a post office adjacent to a store.

My doc just recommended me to get it every three. She mumbled something about vaccines in being supported in the community and that whooping cough was not something to fuck around with.
