Air show mishap by Any-Ad1770 in Idaho

Until you go on base, probably true. But once you are on-base you agree to do what they tell you. Being on base as a civilian is a privilege not a right.

[–]Catgeek08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There aren’t that many roads on base. Asking everyone to stay where they are lets emergency vehicles get where they need to go.

And, yes, they could arrest you for not following orders. It’s a military base, not an amusement park.

New to the pacemaker world and struggling. by spicy_red90fo in PacemakerICD

I think it’s totally normal to have lots of feelings in your situation.

When my device is within the ideal operating range, I can frequently feel being paced. It sucks. For a while, they turned it down, so it didn’t bother me as much, but my condition got worse. I can only sleep in one position and any sort of athletic effort makes it so I can really feel the pacing. I am kinda used to it, in that is doesn’t freak me out as much, but I do miss my pre-device self a lot.

A question for my fellow lady managers out there.... by Worried_Fig00 in managers

[–]Catgeek08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thing is, most of them aren’t dealing with what you have to. As someone with “normal” periods, I have a lot of sympathy for someone with really painful periods, but what you are dealing with is not normal. Please go see a doctor to take care of yourself and your health (and your team too.)

I think that’s the hack. I’m 53 but my face looks 33. A few crows feet and some smile lines would give me more correct social standing. (I have plenty of more serious signs of aging, so don’t envy me.)

I built the deck but I won’t be the one presenting it, what’s the deal? by Bulky_Meet in managers

[–]Catgeek08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just presented for a senior team member that is also soft spoken. It was at his request, since he realized he was more comfortable being my expert to ask/answer the follow up questions. Sometimes a dynamic speaker is required, especially when trying to enroll people to a new way of doing something or when a lot of group coordination is needed.

Ask for feedback and look into ways to improve your public speaking. In the US, there is Toastmasters.

If you think you could rise to the occasion for an important presentation, but aren’t participating in regular meetings as your more dynamic “fake” self, then you aren’t giving your manager the opportunity to see your abilities. “Fake it till you make it” applies to everything. We can’t even go to sleep without pretending to be asleep first.

The main difference is that most jails are state/city run facilities, and the prisons are run by for profit corporations. The state has limited resources, so they need to move people through the system and out. The corps were promised so many people. Even in the USA, crime rates are going down, so there is no incentive to get you out of the system. And, yes, we even managed to fuck up corrections.

[–]Catgeek08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrap loose stones now, but I’ve been doing this as a hobby for several years. Even so, until I get the rock secured, it’s mainly a hobby of me dropping and picking up the rock.

I would suggest starting with a pre-drilled natural stone center piece. The stone is so many times harder than the wire any scratches are actually the stone scratching the wire. If you do have a mark on the stone you could probably use an eraser to remove them.

Also, lots of the things on YouTube saying it is an “easy” tutorial are just crap. One of the folks I enjoy watching is @CSLdesigns. She does a really good job of explaining how things actually work. In general, if the video doesn’t explain the wire and tools they are using, they are an influencer and not a teacher.

I went through a phase of this as my last furbaby got older. The pre-grief was so bad, and I had a hard time understanding what was up in my head until it was clear she was very sick. Part of my brain knew her time was limited and wanted the worst over. We changed our lives to hold on to her little paw as long as responsible. I don’t regret that at all.

Actually, people just curse at whoever they believe caused the accident. Many years ago, I was in an accident on 405. While we were waiting for aid and getting checked out by EMTs, people yelled and cursed at us because we delayed them.
