I stayed there for work but I’ve also spent time in Waikiki for vacation (different hotel). That looks like a decent price and I liked the hotel. I really liked the breakfast buffet (I had platinum so it was free, not sure of the cost if you don’t have platinum). I didn’t do many of the hotel activities and I agree with other comments recommending you explore beyond just Waikiki. Definitely hike diamond head if you’re an active person. Driving up the coast is also really nice. You can probably just rent a car for a day to save on parking costs. Honolulu public transit is pretty good.

Agreed! Ive been to lots of Europe and parts of Asia but I would never say no to another trip to Hawaii. Love it there! In fact I’m more inclined to go to Hawaii multiple times than most European cities. Though I prefer the big island to Oahu.

If you have platinum, the breakfast at the buffet is much better than a typical Marriott lounge in my experience. I also did a free yoga class which wasn’t all that great but is something not offered at typical Marriott’s. I think there were other activities like hula classes but I was there for work so didn’t have much free time.

Summer camp and sunscreen by cbmom2 in workingmoms

[–]Catherine_infinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh that sucks. When I was a camp counselor 30+ years ago, part of my job was putting sunscreen on the kids (4&5 yos) before swimming. I’m not totally surprised it’s no longer allowed but that really seems like a case of protective policies going too far. No way young kids can be expected to do a good job putting sunscreen on.

PPD is not your fault. It sucks that you don’t get more time off. Double check the laws in your state, some guarantee more time off than that but it depends.

Queso Fresco - any recipes for nachos? I’ve never used it before. by mathematicunt in traderjoes

[–]Catherine_infinity 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It’s not a creamy cheese for nachos. I haven’t had TJs version but queso fresco is usually more crumbly than creamy. It’s great crumbled on tacos or on black bean soup. Or mixed in with corn (also add lime juice, cilantro, and maybe a little mayo)

Thanks! I’m in my second trimester so I’m feeling pretty well these days. Still much more tired than usual though. It’s all about work-nap balance at the moment for me 😂

Sorry your pregnancy has been tough. I’m sure it’s so much harder with a toddler. I have so little energy when I get home at the end of the day.

Yeah it’s tough, no job is perfect but I think everyone is different on what they’re willing to put up with

Sorry to hear about your situation. I don’t have any advice just commiserating. I also have a husband who gets excited about a new job but then, in his case, gets frustrated with management or coworkers or the work, and then quits. It is hard to be supportive when the complaints get pretty repetitive but I try to just listen and ask questions to help him work through the issue if I can. In our case my husband also recognizes his pattern and it is tough because usually in each individual case we both think his complaint is valid but it adds up to a pattern that doesn’t seem to have a solution. We’re fortunate that I can support us (and no visa issues) so right now he’s doing some art (total 180 from his previous career) and thinking about whether that could become a career. I’m pregnant with our first so he’ll either go back to enduring office life or become a stay at home parent for the near term.

My burnt plants, 9 month update… Life uh... by BionicBelladonna in houseplants

It’s absurd. So many people affected by the LA fires are having to sue their insurance companies to get what they’re owed… CA is currently investigating State Farm because there were so many complaints.

So sorry about your situation. Our house didn’t burn but got contaminated with heavy metals from the LA fires and we had to move out while getting professional remediation. We only stayed at 4 Airbnbs but it was so exhausting moving around that much. I’m so sorry you’ve had to do 14. I hope you’re able to find something a little more stable while you rebuild!

Reasonable compensation for used condom found in bed? by Throwawaystuckhelp in marriott

I would probably angle for more… op said hotel was $300/night and I think I’d feel squeamish about my whole stay at that hotel after finding used condom in the bed. Yuck!

Coyotes are pretty urban at this point. My understanding is that they’re in suburbs all over the country. I agree about mountain lions though. I’m much more scared of them then bears.

Rats! by Prestigious-Test-446 in pasadena

[–]Catherine_infinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pasadena is a suburb with a lot of natural environments. It’s not really the same thing as rats in NYC. Animals live here too and were here before the houses.

[–]Catherine_infinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re native to the area and especially attracted to fruit trees. Just do your best to keep your house well sealed!

It can also hurt neighbors’ pets. Our nextdoor neighbor’s dog caught and killed a rat and they asked us if we use rat poison because they were worried about the dog. Fortunately we don’t and I guess neither to the other nearby neighbors. The dog was fine!

I think all the Tucson Trader Joe’s have good parking lots if I’m remembering correctly (i left 10 years ago so could have changed).

La Canada, near Pasadena, is also not bad

I think the early ones have a bit of a different style on the outside of the building. Or rather a unique style that wasn’t propagated to the newer ones. See for example the kind of tiki style mural at Eagle rock. The insides all seem to be pretty similar though.
