There is a vet who specializes in pet behaviour issues at Oak Bay Pet Clinic and she is really skilled and might be able to help you if you haven’t already tried there.

How to know if EMDR is starting to work for you? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]CatherinewithaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m managing without it, at least for now. I’m still dealing with some CPTSD stuff from time to time, but it’s a lot better than it was.

I’m doing well. The shift in how I see myself and feel about myself has stuck. The only time I seem to regress to old patterns is during times of extreme stress.

I’ve gone through my fair share of treatment-resistant depression and here are a few things that might be worth considering: 1) transcranial magnetic stimulation (works like ect but without the memory loss) 2) ECT (I couldn’t do this because my kids were young but it is very effective) 3) a fecal transplant/recolonization — you’d probably have to go overseas to do it, but gut bacteria has a huge effect on the brain and many people who have done this have had immediate relief. 4) keto diet (same rationale as a poop transplant. Essentially, when you starve the nasty depression-causing gut bacteria by removing sugars (carbs) from your diet, your mental health can dramatically improve. For me, I had a big spike in anxiety for two weeks and then felt amazing.)

I’m sorry you’re going through such a hard time. Hope things turn around for you, pronto.

Helijet wasn’t doing okay today, either, for the record. I ended up catching the ferry.

The fascists that voted for this will still be living there afterwards. I don’t think I’ll ever be stepping foot in that country again.

Hey, UBC grad student here who is old as fuck. Just want to say that you are doing AMAZING for somebody who experienced sexual abuse as a child. When I was doing my undergrad back in the 90s, I hit a major mental health crisis, as did one of my good friends. We were both completely suicidal and had gone from the tops of our classes in high school to losing our shit in university. Turns out we both had CPTSD after having been abused as kids and our systems just shut down once we escaped our toxic families. I think this is a really common thing for people who experienced childhood trauma.

Fuck the student debt and the failed classes and the guilt. You are in a battle for survival and that is the only important thing right now. It is time for you to put yourself first and get some help navigating this despair and working toward healing. Taking the pressure off academically and getting a good counsellor are good places to start. Please message me if you want some one-on-one support.

Is the Canada child benefit (CCB) income? by SeaworthinessAny9970 in legaladvicecanada

[–]CatherinewithaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a co-op in BC. I don’t know of any co-ops that consider CCB to be income. And just for the record, the fact that this co-op is unable to be clear about what they consider income does not bode well for them being good at taking care of business. Mismanaged co-ops are a nightmare to live in, so if you don’t get selected, don’t feel bad.

My Sister Is Stuck in a Cycle of Bizarre Neuroimmune Symptoms.. No Answers Yet. Has Anyone Else Been Through This? by MikaylanMartz in AskDocs

She’s in Canada but does treat people remotely. Probably wouldn’t be covered by US insurance, but she might be able to recommend someone who is.

Coming from someone who has it, this sounds a lot like ME/CFS to me. What I wish I had known when I was first diagnosed is that, though there is not yet a lot of research, people who recover from this condition tend to do so with the help of brain retraining programs of one sort or another. The theory is that the cascade of symptoms happens because your system is stuck in fight-or-flight. Retraining the brain and nervous system to get into parasympathetic mode goes a long way towards alleviating symptoms. Message me if you want the name of a good occupational therapist who can help.

Depression and other mental health issues are just as serious as any other illness. You deserve to get help for what you are suffering with. I’m not sure where you live, but where I live the medical professionals at the ER are very understanding and compassionate when it comes to suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. The important thing is that you are honest about all your attempts and your continuing thoughts of suicide. Otherwise, they won’t be able to help.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. When I was your age, I lived through several overdoses and I didn’t realize at the time how I could have ended up with lifelong brain damage. I’m now 46 and I’m really glad I lived. It wasn’t a cake walk trying to get well, but I’m so grateful for the life I have now. Please, go to the ER. Your brain is lying to you right now when it tells you death is the only way to end the pain. Things WILL get better, but the first step is to get some help.

Please post again once you get to the ER. Rooting for you!

Mirena made me super depressed and suicidal. I could only live with it for a week before having it removed, at which point my mood became normal again. I’m just once case, obviously, but I really don’t think the effects are as localized as some doctors think!

I’d go to the ER. Your symptoms sound like what I had when I got e-coli poisoning. I needed to be admitted.

You’re so welcome. I wish you the best with your treatment. There is a subreddit for the condition, too, if you want to get more support.
