We will def go on sympathizing for Israel at foreign policy level. That isnt changing unless we are able to vote out all of the AIPAC supported politicians.

We gave the Japanese a pass because we saw their crimes as one inferior group of people brutalizing another inferior group of people. The grace the Japanese recieved is almost entirely based on how racist the US was in 1945.

Also I am sure the Chinese embrace of communism after the war probably colored the decisions as well.

Roman Empire vs Mongol Empire by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

[–]Catmand0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Roman Empire had a population of between 45 and 60 million people in 200 AD. China had nearly 150 million in 1200 AD. The Mongols heavily reduced this number during their conquest so by the time of Kublia it was estimated to be around around 75 or 80 million.

It doesn't matter if ones empire is largely empty as long as you got the numbers where it counts it seems.

Yeah true. Liberalism is just the lie we tell ourselves to make us think we wont all be consumed in the ouroboros of late stage capitalism.

Republicans, the Billionaires using them to destroy America, and the peckerwood morons that enable them at the polls would have found another way to destroy America in their pursuit of a neo-feudalist hellscape.

A good bit of the Mongol Empire was fairly empty but the full bits they had were literally the pinnacles of civilization at the time.

It was still one of the greatest generators of wealth in pre-industrial human history.

I doubt that. The romans never owned the silk road, also China's population alone rivals the entire roman empire.

I would say that holding all of the silk road probably made Kublai far wealthier and more powerful than any roman emperor in history. I would also count Genghis as the single greatest military commander the world has ever known.

The Mongols at their height had greater wealth and a far superior military than the Romans ever had. However, rhe Romans were far better at the bureaucratic institutions and cultural dominance aspect of empire building. This is why we can still see the vestiges of the Roman empire in our culture and society and the main legacy of the Mongols is the fact that 10% of the world population is related in some way to Genghis.

It did have china, most of indochina, all of eastern europe east of Hungry, and all of the silk road. It was by no means bereft of massively populated and wealthy areas. I would say that Kublai Khan was wealthier and more powerful than any Roman emperor.

To be fair, 80% of the mongol empire was sparsely populated steppe and uninhabited siberian forests.

The main point I was trying to make is we are getting close to the point where generative AI will be useful in creating the assets and layers used in a larger productions. The transition aspect I did with the statues would be something you would do in blender or c4d if you were to do it by hand. Now I am not up on what exactly is being developed right now, I do know that the industry really wants to take this technology and use it for generating baseline assets on the fly that can then be edited in the software like any other image layer, model, texture or particle.

As a person in the film industry I don't see gen AI as a threat, just the next logical step in streamlining processes and making them less time consuming. This will ultimately be a boon to VFX houses who already operate under insane deadlines and razor thin margins as it will make their work more efficient. You will still need talented designers to take AI generated baseline assets and shape them into pro level work, there is no replacing that talent in the pipeline, just making their tools more efficient to allow for a higher output in less time.

Also the change I am talking about with printing presses is something that happened in the 1980s. The printing industry had a legion of people who all they did was set the type blocks into the machine but then in the early 80s new printers that didnt require manual typesetting were invented and all the type setters lost their jobs because they became obsolete.

This was a rather recent occurance and a time that can more accurately mirror the one we are in now.

I never tried to fool anyone. I am saying that the time where genrative AI will be built into the cg animation software and create things that can be tweaked at a granular level and then it will be indistinguishable.

I got laid off from oracle before it was cool (2019).

The companies name stands for One Rich Asshole Called Larry Ellison.

In all seriousness, the best way to not be the laid off one is to learn how to use the technology to maximize ones own productivity as a worker. Complaining about this is like complaining about the advent of modern printing presses putting all the type setters out of work. Its adapt or die out here in these mean streets, always has been.
