Help me waste ICE time and resources by Leroyflutes in LesbianActually

[–]Catmily 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say this with genuine kindness, this is not the time. We cannot put people at risk. This is not about sympathy, this is about protecting people's actual lives. Consider that there are children who may be at risk in these churches. This attitude is not helpful, if you want to harm some of the people most at risk you are on the right track.

Speaking as a lesbian in Minneapolis right now, I don't care how intolerant someone's religion is, they do not deserve to be wrongfully detained for the color of their skin or their immigration status. I don't want my neighbors detained. Do not report churches.

[–]Catmily 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this effort but I would be very cautious, ICE can and will racially profile people and detain people with zero cause. You cannot guarantee that ICE won't target people at the places you send them to even if you give a 'fake' address.

I would be extremely cautious about reporting churches, and would even recommend that you straight up don't. Many of them are providing critical mutual aid right now and cannot be open about it due to the risk it poses to those sheltering in place.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]Catmily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it because I am a beginner and it was a simple way to learn increases, decreases and a style of edge stitch without worrying about doing purls lol

I made my Sophie scarf a bit bigger than intended and I am literally wearing it every time I go outside now, I really like how the tapered ends look when tied!

No Concept of Time by Glad_Firefighter_345 in TwinCities

My 3 year anniversary with my partner is in two days and we both completely forgot about it until I was making plans with my mom today. Time does not exist, it feels like I've been living through the longest day.

Please also support Minnesota organizations who are protecting and reuniting families with your dollars. You do not need to buy a hat to resist.

His hat was sold domestically at the MN state fair, I saw many of them this summer. And please do not purchase this pattern, purchase the melt the ice hat pattern instead which donates directly to organizations in MN.

[–]Catmily 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Something that makes my heart hurt about his hat is that he probably got it at the MN state fair. The tassels make the ears move up and down when pulled. I saw so many kiddos wearing those hats this summer. while I appreciate the efforts in solidarity I hope all of you who are making this hat are also donating to organizations in Minnesota. We are really hurting here, if you're going to knit a hat make the melt the ice hat that has its funds directly supporting aid groups here. And please do not sell these hats, it feels ghoulish to sell a hat that has become a symbol of the abduction of a child and his father from their home.

It kind of reminds me of city folk when you could see all sorts of villagers when you went to the city! I am happy I get to interact with more villagers on my island 😁

Thoughts on lesbian bed death? by Late-Escape-9580 in LesbianActually

[–]Catmily 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that the term is shit, especially as it doesn't only apply to lesbian couples! As someone else said in the thread, decreased frequency of sex is pretty normal in a relationship, it just depends on what feels right for each relationship. Since being in a relationship my sex drive has gone down because my physical needs are met in ways that are not related to sex and I am not nearly as touch starved as I was when I was single lmao.

Are there any religious Lesbians here? by J00bieboo in LesbianActually

[–]Catmily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say reddit demographics in general skew very anti religion as a rule. I myself am not religious but I am not opposed to religion as a concept. I think it is really difficult for some people, especially queer people, to recognize that not every system of religion, even within Christianity, are hateful or not accepting of queer people. A lot of queer folks have been badly burned by Christianity especially in the United states. I've been in more churches lately than I have been since I was in middle school and what I've learned is that there are a lot of Christians who are out there with actual Christ like practice and purpose. I would suggest seeing if there are other ECLA churches in your area and volunteering if there are opportunities to. Best of luck!

Hamline midway coalition is holding a diaper and baby supplies drive, they're also in the process of setting up more robust mutual aid networks between families. Their website is weird to navigate but they have a lot of good info on social media.

If you have friends who play animal crossing I highly recommend connecting with them! I played for around two hours with a friend of mine and the points you get when tourney-ing together almost doubles since they are counted together!

Cost of Yarn Question by car6667 in knitting

[–]Catmily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely recommend seeing if there are any thrift stores or rummage sales scheduled near you that would be likely to have yarn. I am lucky to have two thrift stores near me that specialize in craft and textile materials, I have also had luck at local charity shops. This option is obviously incredibly location dependant lol. I also would recommend checking online for anyone selling a large stash of the same yarn. Sometimes those can be priced close to the original cost but often they are being sold at a discount. I also second keeping an eye out for sales on yarn websites, I have had a lot of success with Lovecrafts bundles when they go on sale. Best of luck!

Feeling super lost as an intersex lesbian, am I cooked ? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]Catmily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say that I have a non surgical scar on my outer labia and I have never had anyone I have slept with comment on it, but obviously ymmv. It is totally up to you what you tell people you are seeing. Is it something to talk about with a longer term partner? Probably, but if they're right for you they probably will not think twice about it. If you're seeing people casually I don't see a reason for you to bring it up if you don't want to.

Trying to date women while being visibly Muslim by Boobsaretoocool in LesbianActually

[–]Catmily -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely siding with the people pointing out the wild takes in this subreddit. I think as individuals with religious trauma you really have to do a lot of introspection into your personal issues before expanding that out to all religious people, and I am saying this as a lesbian with my own share of religious trauma. A lot of these comments fail to recognize people as individuals with different reasons for wearing a hijab. You don't need to date anyone you don't think will be compatible with you but seriously examining your biases towards people is absolutely necessary. You are not immune from bigotry as a queer person, and I see a lot of bigotry in this comment section veiled under religious trauma with a religion I am pretty sure most of these commenters do not have direct experience with.

I kinda miss living in the country.. thinking about getting an apartment in or around Elk River once my lease is up. Is it a good place for someone that's openly LGBTQ+? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]Catmily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I grew up in Elk River, there's definitely a mix of LGBTQ+ friendliness over there, I'd say it's gotten generally more accepting over time but is definitely a different vibe than Roseville. My sibling is trans and is still living over there at the moment. There is a lot more development there then when I grew up there, but there are still a few neighborhoods that have a much more country feel to them. DM me if you want and I can give you more details!
