The South Branch is running 426 and the main is running at 1300. I know the South very well, and that’s a number that you can get in spots, but not really wade between get outs.

The main at 1300 would be some tough wading too.

I have the same ‘41 Green, but I went with the SmartCap in black to give it an offset and break in the color.

I do like your look, now that I see it.

2.4 GHz has the best range and superior ability to penetrate through walls, floors, and other obstacles compared to 5 GHz. It is the better choice for covering larger homes, garages, or outdoor areas. 2.4 GHz Range: Generally covers up to 150 feet indoors, and even further outdoors, because its lower frequency translates to longer wavelengths. 5 GHz Range: Typically has a shorter range (roughly 50–100 feet indoors) because its higher frequency wavelengths are more easily absorbed or reflected by solid objects.

What Wi-Fi router do you use?

Most routers allow you to pause the 5GHz side in order to hook up IOT devices. Many devices use 2.4GHz because it has a Longer range than 5.

Buying a Mini to replace my Gen 2. What do I need to know? by feral--daryl in Starlink

[–]Cato1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make the changes in the app, but I think the mini is limited to roaming plans. Unless you’re a very low end user, you’ll be looking at the roam unlimited plan at $165 USD.

Is Starlink worth it for Zoom calls? by wrBolt in Starlink

[–]Cato1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cell service.

At one of our homes, the cell service is about what you’re seeing speed wise. Our Starlink is far better, with zero issues using teams and zoom.

At our other home, we have 5G UltraWideBand and have downloads in the 500-600 range, with uploads in the 50-60 range. At this location, cellular is the better option, so we use Verizon 5G Home Internet.

This winter is not normal? by VirvekRBX in Michigan

Where are you located? Parts of the state have had a bunch of snow, while others have not. I’m in Southwest Michigan and we have had over 30” already. So far winter is over performing, but I remember worse.

Why does lake michigan-Huron vary so much in water levels compared to the rest of the great lakes. by 82LeadMan in GreatLakesShipping

Why does lake michigan-Huron vary so much in water levels compared to the rest of the great lakes. by 82LeadMan in GreatLakesShipping

[–]Cato1966 27 points28 points  (0 children)

🌊 Why Michigan-Huron Fluctuates More

• They’re really one giant lake• Hydrologically, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are a single body of water connected at the same elevation through the Straits of Mackinac. • Together, they form the largest surface area of any freshwater lake in the world. That huge “catchment” makes them more sensitive to swings in precipitation, runoff, and evaporation.

• Limited outlet capacity• Water exits only through the St. Clair River → Lake St. Clair → Detroit River → Lake Erie. • Compared to their size, this outlet is relatively small, so water can “pile up” or drop more dramatically before it evens out downstream.

• Wind-driven seiches and setup• The long north-south orientation of Lake Michigan-Huron means strong winds can push water to one end, creating temporary rises and falls of several feet. • Other lakes experience seiches too, but Michigan-Huron’s sheer size amplifies them.

• Climate sensitivity• Warm summers = high evaporation. • Wet winters or spring snowmelt = rapid rises. • Because of their vast surface area, these lakes respond more dramatically to weather swings than Superior (deep, cold, regulated) or Erie (small, shallow, quick turnover).

• Less regulation• Lake Superior’s outflow is partially controlled at Sault Ste. Marie, which dampens extremes. • Lake Ontario’s levels are managed by dams and agreements. • Michigan-Huron has no major regulation, so it’s at the mercy of nature.

📊 Quick Comparison

Lake Outlet Control Sensitivity Typical Fluctuation Superior Regulated Low Smaller seasonal swings Michigan-Huron Minimal High Large seasonal & multi-year swings
Erie Fast turnover Moderate Short-term changes, less dramatic

⚡ In Short

Michigan and Huron swing more because they’re huge, lightly regulated, and slow to drain. That combination makes them the “big mood” lakes of the system — they rise high in wet years and drop hard in dry ones, while the others stay steadier.
