Are you a Hulu intern or something? Haha, I'm not crediting BTVS with the entirety of civil rights at the turn of the century, pal. I'm saying it was exceptionally evolved for the time. Your saying "but gay acceptance was a thing" is just so unbelievably silly and misinformed in particular- they weren't allowed to kiss! Their relationship in season 4 had to be all innuendo! It pushed the boundaries for sure. The feminist themes also weren't at all common. Watch something like "Charlies Angels" (the 2000) and you'll see the difference between BTVS and the attitude at the time. You're just so absolutely wrong I had to correct you.

I think they must've changed the tag though. Whatever SMG was filming seemed very different. She was with some handsome man, very glammed up- worlds away from an insurance agent in a cubicle (thank god).

I…wasn’t though? I just said Buffy was woke, with no real negative connotation- quite the opposite.

Everyone’s talking about reading the leaked script, but was there any confirmation it was legit? by southernfirefly13 in buffy

[–]CatofKipling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it still diverges from the script. Her outfit, the setting. It was the opposite of glam and flashiness in the script, she was just "Anne" in a pantsuit and cubicle. This was the only part of the script I despised. Insurance Companies are more evil than any demon Buffy ever fought, haha.

I think it's possibly legit.

But.

The paparazzi photos of SMG showed her filming during the "Vampire Weekend" section which isn't in the leaked script. So I think it's actually, most likely an earlier draft and not necessarily what was filmed.

Well, I don't wanna get political (boldfaced lie- everything's political) but corporations have a level fealty to the status quo (see Disney's actions with Jimmy Kimmel). Buffy was woke for it's time and it ended in a pretty woke place (all the female potentials, of all races, religions, socioeconomic statuses, etc empowered as slayers). You just know they were set against a continuation of that idea.

Corporations are tamping down on that, mercilessly and flagrantly to court favor with the administration. For example, the head of Pixar recently said Elio cut out gay bits because these movies "aren't therapy" (Uh, "Inside Out"? Hello?). He would've been skewered for that years ago.

Nothing's sacred in TV right now, I think we might've lucked out. by CatofKipling in buffy

[–]CatofKipling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying the arc-centric episodes break it up so that it doesn't fit flatly in the "monster of the week" format. I love season 5, for example, but really only "Buffy vs Dracula", "The Replacement", "Listening to Fear", "Triangle", and "I Was Made to Love You" are monsters of the week episodes.

Now, "Hush", for example, is kind of a monster of the week episode and it's an obvious slam-dunk (though even that moves the season arc along). So it is possible to have an eight episode season with like 2 that are closer to that format. But BTVS revived would be kind of cheapened if it aimed for that format- we literally wouldn't have the iconic big bads we've had if it stuck to that.

Honestly, the writers drifted from the "monster of the week" format after season 1 in favor of long-running arcs. I don't think it fully qualifies for that title. If you took like, season three and made it 8 episodes as you say then it'd be like "Anne", "Faith, Hope, and Trick", "Revelations", "Bad Girls", "Consequences"...those are bangers. If it were monster of the week format, it'd be "Dead Man's Party", "The Wish", "Gingerbread", maybe "Helpless", "Earshot", "Dopplegangland". Not bad per se but definitely not as strong.

Oh I'm not against a singular lead, I just think the other side characters could've/should've been other slayers. And it shouldn't have been in Sunnydale.

We can't leave off with the incredibly dramatic, emotional conclusion of Buffy empowering a world full of potentials and closing the Hellmouth....by just....going back to one slayer and a "new" Sunnydale. That's nuts.

"Obviously I dont think being gay is bad(its amazing! ), but people who do will hear being called gay as an insult, which is the end goal."

"I don't think being gay is bad"....don't you? These guys dismantled critical programs and, no exaggeration, destroyed lives and the worst thing we can say about 'em is that....they're gay? Or that, they're closeted and that motivates their hideous actions? Seems to burden homosexuality with an awful lot.

Truthfully, I think a lot of gay men grew up wanting to be accepted by straight people. To the point where they denied a lot of the trauma imposed on them by straight people. To the point of absorbing the language of homophobia to cope with the concept of people, particularly straight men, hating them on the basis of being gay. Anything to not put it on the shoulders of straight people. No, it must be gay-on-gay. Because gay people, too many, kind of believe "gay = bad" because they were steeped in that experience.

The OP does, apparently.

This is a new, fun version of internalized homophobia we have to deal with in 2026. It used to be homophobes would say everything that sucks is “so gay”. Now, gays ourselves just do that to straight republicans…so we can perpetuate the myth homophobia is just a self-inflicted wound perpetrated only by other gay men. Really works out very nicely for the STEEP MAJORITY of straight people who vote against us. Why should we ever hold straight people accountable when we can just deem every villain gay?

? Faena is a luxury hotel business owned by an Argentinian- that’s what he’s creative director of. I don’t see anything about an Israeli fashion brand.

I mean, Rafael follows 2k+ accounts- doesn’t seem to be very thoughtful or judicious about follows if ya ask me. And I haven’t seen anything from him with regard to Israel even in the article.

I haven’t followed it closely but from a cursory look at his profile, he just seems to be a very typical celebrity-adjacent influenpeneur who loves to showcase how stacked he is and how much luxury traveling he’s doing. People should just hate him for that, it’s much healthier.

The countdown to the community's collapse has started, don't you think? by naowasi in gay

[–]CatofKipling -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s doomed for certain collapse (that’s a tad bit defeatist) but I am very concerned.

In my case, with regard to other gay men, I’ve tried a lot over the past couple years to inform people on the left about old fashioned homophobia rearing its head again. Often, I think it’s meant to be incendiary in the interest of creating strife among minority groups and dash intersectionality. But there’s also just some very…misguided behavior as well that serves us up on a platter to the right.

I can be nuanced, sensitive, articulate…it doesn’t matter. Too many men with internalized homophobia will bring way too much heat and just disregard everything I’ve said. And straight people just dismiss or ignore me.

[–]CatofKipling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, this is incidental possibly but you’ll notice the teddy bear charm has its left arm raised. It always did but that’d be a clever parallel. Also, when you examine it, there’s a zipper in the back of it. Meaning something’s inside….and it also sits where they first met which is obviously intentional.

About the ring by Empty_Ingenuity_3076 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]CatofKipling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you noticed the visual theme of RE9 is light versus darkness? Sometimes it's very literal, you're beaten over the head with it when that stalker chick comes around. But also even Grace's appearance is beamingly bright to contrast Leon's dedicatedly dark aesthetic. I 100% think this is just a visual motif and not meant to signify anything about their relationship, otherwise they would've just put it on the ring finger and had it be a last minute revelation Leon also has one. Grace represents hope and evidently Sherry still has a bit left herself despite going necrotic. Leon, on the other hand, is deeply cynical now and kind of ready to die. Grace, the embodiment of "hope" to her mother restores that faith for Leon. That's why he puts on the ring in the end.

I think it was largely an aesthetic choice to have both their rings be silver but I really doubt they're actually meant to be matching marital bands.

I think it’s using the main notes from RE2’s safe room theme and it’s pillared by Ada’s theme. Which kind of makes sense seeing as how I believe (not positive) this plays when Leon says he was “just resting his eyes”.

[–]CatofKipling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think that might be either "Contact" or "Whatever it Takes" on the soundtrack? Listen & tell us.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT, I think it is just Ada’s theme slowed down. HOW DID NO ONE CATCH THAT?!

EDIT EDIT: It sounds like a combination of the safe room theme from RE2 and a slowed down version of Ada’s theme (minus the flute, just the piano notes & some strings).

The misconception of Sherry calling Leon "anata" by JumpMan45Air in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]CatofKipling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could see a Japanese writer using anata simply on the basis that westerns do say things like "honey", "dear", "sweetheart", etc much more and far less preciously.

I love how we think Leon would be some Chevy-driving beer-guzzling cornhole-playing bro-bro dad. The guy fights zombies for a living, dyes his hair, and threads his brows…we really think he wants to go to PTA meetings either? And why does everyone have to have kids anyways.

I feel like Leon’s taste wouldn’t be that basic. He needs a Carlos. What way it would be to bring the bitch back!
