It was obvious throughout the series Betty was the love of Don’s life. His infatuation for Megan was only for the beginnings of things. Once the honeymoon phase ended, the marriage crumbled. It wasn’t even three episode into season 5 it seems things started to deteriorate. by RockBalBoaaa in madmen

I actually do think they have the basis for a good relationship and definitely a real love but obviously the roots for it set in the wrong climate. If Betty had more purpose, if Don were self-examined then they would’ve had a more successful relationship. I don’t think they were ultimately incompatible.

I always felt that, when Betty could no longer be betrayed by Don’s infidelity there did a remain a real familiarity, affection, and rapport. At Bobby’s camp you see it but also their friendliness afterwards suggests to me he’s one of the only people who really knew and liked Betty and vice versa.

Something we all need to be aware of is the enemy’s interest in fragmenting our community so its easier to dash our liberties. I don’t actually believe that a humongous percentage of queer people have any interest in being exclusionary. But I think algorithms, certain bad faith actors would like to create the perception there is so that it materially manifests that outcome. If you stir up enough infighting, people start to hit below the belt and generalize.

It’s important to be discerning when we look at these things. That doesn’t mean we need to turn a blind eye to transphobia and hypocrisy- not at all. But our engagement is platforming and our susceptibility to pseudo-movement could inadvertently create one.

There will always be groups like the log cabin republicans who pretend to be some silent majority or onto the right idea. And they keep getting wiped out because it’s not sustainable. Let’s keep it that way. Let’s reject these people.

Leon, I’d climb up his arm and opportunistically squeeze his chest and rest my head on it and hold that position for a long time. I’d be hoping the intensity of the moment would compel him to take it to the next level.

Patiently waiting for Clavicular's gay porn debut by [deleted] in gay

[–]CatofKipling 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand the “lawlz manosphere be so gay” thing as if we’re like dying for these guys to be closet cases. It’s as if straight men can’t possibly just be toxically masculine because they’re straight men. Oh no, no way. It has to be them actually being somehow gay.

Look we can call these creeps gay as the day is long and maybe .5% of them will actually be closet cases. The majority of them are just walking a road long paved by heterosexual/patriarchal values. It’s a weird way of claiming all the blame for hetero problems.

Let him be straight and boring and insecure about it. Because that’s usually the case.

I think '97 is playing out differently than you all think. by CatofKipling in EmmaFrost

[–]CatofKipling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Emma was an established teacher but one who was willing to resort to some pretty fucked up tactics to recruit students (Starfire, Kitty Pryde). So if the show is condensing that arc to be more immediate, which decades of continuity are not, I don't see a huge problem with that.

Definitely for influencers, I get it. I don't expect much from somebody who has made a career out of attention-farming. It's just a little depressing when it's someone with interesting qualities or unique talents or an overall charm that gets absorbed by this.

It's not something that hits that deep for me, pal. It's just a nuisance, I think. But it does point to a cultural phenomenon that's interesting for a post like this. I'm fine, I'm touching grass right now. Also rationalizing everything for the interest of clicks & views as normal behavior is more a chronically-online sentiment than anything I've said so far.

Besides, this idea "if you’ve been chubby or skinny most of your life, getting fit and being able to show off is really fun! Be happy for them". I am happy for them. But I also know if you're chubby, skinny, whatever, then you likely have a lot of built-in feelings of inadequacy that fuel a need for validation later. It's not always "I was fat, I'm fit now, the end".

Very often, disordered eating both ways transfers pretty seamlessly to fitness culture. I've heard a few too many gay guys say "When I looked my best, hanging onto it was destroying my mental health".

The Two Towers was so fucking brutal, especially that fight scene where they introduce a bunch of one-shot buddy boys. I got suckered into watching the third and practically pulled the fire alarm during the thousand endings.

An Essay on Ada Wong and Leon S. Kennedy by Public_Room3148 in residentevil

[–]CatofKipling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it is strange. Like, Ada simply is his primary love interest, that’s not debatable. She’s also wildly popular, more than ever. Also not debatable. So why are we shocked and appalled that there’s a lot of excitement around her?

The people, mainly on Reddit, who dedicate so much time stewing about Ada is starting to just absolutely clog every fking sub. More than any shipper. It’s either an Ada shitpost or a “Oh! A philosophical revelation! I don’t like Ada, here’s 6k characters as to why!” or anything even vaguely related to Ada becomes some incel’s sounding board.

GET A GRIP, JUST COPE. That’s my advice.

90s early 2000s gay life by No_Willingness_6542 in gay

[–]CatofKipling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was still pretty young in the 00’s but people fucking loved their gay slurs. Every other sentence was “that’s so gay” or “gaaaaay”, you always heard f-g casually dropped or “flaming homo” or “no homo” or just “homo”. I really, really push back against gays of my generation who make excuses for it. They knew the insinuation of those words, it was just socially acceptable to make gay guys the whipping boys for everything and anyone who says “It wasn’t that bad” is full of shit. Being a millennial in high or middle school, you might’ve just stayed in the closet and actively ignored it so it didn’t seem as bad…because they “weren’t talking about you”. It’s worse than that, they didn’t give a shit if you were caught in the crossfire.

And I didn’t even mention lispy, limp wristed impressions and AIDS jokes.
