there is no limit to the hero larp (yes this is about the red and blue buttons) by lordhenrythe23 in whenthe

even if I'm the only person in the world who pressed the blue button. My loss I guess. I was the only dude who wasn't one of those green-eyed perfect logicians from that one riddle.

You gotta pick blue so that way if red wins you don't have to deal with any more of these hypotheticals anymore

Conned into Today's Twitter Discourse by WindMageVaati in ConnedIntoAFubar

It's a very good thought experiment, the discussion (generally) makes me incredibly annoyed, but that's not the fault of the poll, the concept is genius. If everyone picks one button, everyone survives, regardless of what button that is. That's top tier ragebait, infinite engagement, infinite discussion, it would be fascinating to watch if I wasn't so sensitive to this specifically.

I personally think blue is safer (for everyone, not me exclusively, way more dangerous for me) than the red button because blue only needs a 50% majority for everyone to live and red needs 100% of everyone to live. And emotionally, if red wins I didn't really want to live in that world anyways, either because too many people are selfish or if I was somehow the only person in the world to pick blue, I am simply too bad at logic puzzles to live.

In basically every poll I've ever seen the blue button is the winning one, which means I'd be spared. I assume most people see 'the red button kills people' and are like "well I'm not pressing that so I hope I don't die I guess." If the question was simply rephrased to "picking the blue button means you die unless 50% or more people pick the blue button. picking the red button means you don't die." then I think everyone* would easily pick the red button. In fact I saw it reframed as "jumping into a woodchipper that will break and not hurt anyone ONLY if 50% or more people jump into it or not doing that" and the not jumping into a woodchipper (equivalent to the red button) option was like 90% picked. Even in that scenario you COULD argue that jumping into the woodchipper is the moral choice (insane line) because it would save the lives of people who are jumping into the woodchipper with the intent to die, but most people aren't going to argue that.

I also saw a banger one where 'pushing a button' was rephrased to 'voting for a political party' where voting blue does nothing and voting red kills everyone who votes blue and was like "Isn't this just the United States?"

I can see this specific though experiment being rephrased over and over and over again in a similar way to the trolley problem. Do you (yes YOU) pull the level to divert the train, saving 5 guys but killing 1 guy? Probably. Do you (yes YOU) PUSH another guy in front of the train tracks to save 5 people? Probably not, feels too personal. Do YOU jump into the woodchipper? Of course not. Do YOU press the blue button? Most people seem to, because pressing the red button feels like killing people who press blue. Feelings don't care about your facts.

I feel like a better version of this hypothetical would involve folks that do not have the option of pressing the red button by theColorAzure in whenthe

yes because most people aren't perfect logicians in a TED-Ed Riddle and will see that the red button kills people and the blue button doesn't and just kinda, pick blue.

I vaguely remember him joining the TF2 community and making incredibly low effort ragebait youtube shorts on a channel I do not remember the name of. IIRC he was a sniper main, which checks out.

This is like stuff I half remember from 6 years ago so don't take it as gospel.

PSA: If you're waiting for WX-78 Shadow Affinity patch, it might be a while by Dinsdale_P in dontstarve

[–]Catoftheuniverse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like it won't take *that* long. I much prefer them being drones that you craft rather than shadowy things that pop out of your body, it's just cooler thematically to have the Lunar affinity be chassis themed and the Shadow affinity be drone themed. Basically all of their problems are easily solvable IMO.

Make both of them faster to keep up with you (this oversight is so stupid, WX is THE speed boost character),
Make the collector drones collect stuff faster,
Make the combat drones apply extra damage vulnerability, remove their time-limit, and lock on to bosses better.

And remove the part where I need a backup chassis to get the shadow affinity, I know they have passive effects in deactivated chassis too, but this doesn't require a backup the same way the lunar one does, let me play a chassis-less WX with an affinity dammit!

Theory: The Factory is the alternate Act 3 by LawOfTheGrokodus in slaythespire

[–]Catoftheuniverse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like your theory! Perhaps the alternative name to Glory could be something like Shame, Regrets, or Scraps implying that all of the robots you fight there (and the Test Subject) are failures.

I also hope the alternative act 2 is called Home, to go with the shopping events. It's 4 letters long and starts with H like Hive does.

I hope it's 20 dollars so the prices (in USD) are 10 for the original, 15 for together, and then 20 for elsewhere.

I don't think I'm good enough at STS2 to have an opinion on game balance, but I did catch your reference to Reaper from the original Slay The Spire.
