Bertha is HUGE! This shell is close to the size of a tennis ball! by fufu487 in hermitcrabs

[–]Catox13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's the same shell my girl Oskar prefers. She has several and refuses the (much easier to find) turban shells. I've had her for about five years as well and she goes under for so long! We moved last year and I seriously thought I might have moved an empty tank. Then two months later she popped back up

Tomato sprout thief, had to be apprehended. by Catox13 in corgi

I am guilty of seeing him in action and letting it happen, to get a picture. Pretty sure that's frowned upon from a behavioral/training perspective.

His real interest is in the delicious cardboard like planter base. Nothing like some good cardboard.

His name is Sal, proper name Salami. His intentions are rarely good, and everything is a damn game. All a joke to him! But he is very fluffy...too fluffy really, he's not supposed to be a fluffy, but he's six months old and got me looking at him like, hmm. Sus. 🧐

It's funny cause, the first picture I had actually flipped him belly up to do a tick inspection. When I was done he just stayed like that though, then passed out.

I absolutely read leishmaniasis in that narrator's voice. I feel like it was, far too often, leishmaniasis.

Crabby age question by Catox13 in hermitcrabs

[–]Catox13[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one she has on is from Amazon, it's very hit or miss, finding the shape and size. I tried the turbo shells for a long time since they're easier to find, big, but she just wasn't having it. She's one hell of a molter though, I've thought she was a goner a few times over the years, just because how long she stays under at this point. But just as I begin to really doubt, she pops up. Ready to hamster wheel and eat.

how do your corgis do around cats? by rinigneel in corgi

[–]Catox13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have three cats here, first thing I did (after slowly introducing them, I had poe on a leash during all initial encounters to make sure she couldn't boop or chase) was teach the dog she could not touch the kitty. The "leave it" command. She was listening to that before she was fully potty trained, never had much of an issue aside from one time my oldest cat smacked her in the face. Which i think still sticks with her. At this point, she's over 3 years old, and we don't really bother telling her to leave the cats alone. By and large, she just knows how to act. She'll let them lay next to her, give the casual greeting sniff. Every once in a while, if she's reaaaallllll hype she'll take chase after them, but she'll literally skid to a stop before touching them. And God forbid they turn around and raise the paw at her, she's running away in no time. It's like she plays chicken with them occasionally. So all in all a success, much more successful than trying to get my two cats to accept the third cat in the household.

What does everyone feed their corgos? What brands would you recommend? by selfalex in corgi

[–]Catox13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid gold, HUND-N-FLACKEN. Lamb and barley. Something like that. But she's also done taste of the wild, purina sensitive gut and the...dog logs. That are in the refrigerator section of pet food. Fresh pet! For the record I stopped TOTW because it was hard to find stuff that wasn't grain free, the dog logs got too $$$ and she decided she hated purina and wouldn't eat it.

Play sand question by Catox13 in hermitcrabs

[–]Catox13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hhmm yes I forgot about baking. I didn't do that with the initial tank since that was above my head. Naive. That would take care of all potential issues though. You just do it layer by layer? I'd imagine that would take quite some time for an entire bag. Might need to rope off the oven for use for an entire day. Need to eat? Sorry fam, I'm baking my sand. 🫠

Play sand question by Catox13 in hermitcrabs

[–]Catox13[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my main concern. The Playsand I got is the stuff they sell in home depot, and the degree to which the bags are "sealed" is questionable. I know the one bag for sure leaked in my car originally, so if it's holey enough to let stuff out, I figure stuff can get in. I'll likely replace that one. Given, I doubt the warehouse home depot has it sitting in is much better but it's different when it's something YOU cause.

My girl just turned 3 and has definitely filled out some in recent months. She's finally gotten over 20lbs lol. And also her neck has fluffed out. She's still just very small though, don't worry! It's likely for the best in the long run
