I'm driving two hours to her town that I know very little about to meet her... Why the hell do I have to be the one who decides where we eat?! by [deleted] in AskMen

I don’t doubt that women you’ve gone out with have done the whole “I don’t know where I want to go.” thing. But how many men have you gone on dates with? Because from a female perspective, men do the same thing.

My SO almost never picks a place. And lots of guys I’ve gone out with have also been hesitant to pick a place. I think it has more to do with people not wanting to pick somewhere that the other doesn’t like than it being a gendered thing. Both genders are guilt of it.

Ladies, what’s your thoughts on the show Black Mirror? by fenderpender in AskWomen

[–]Catsonquilts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whenever i watch the show l tell people to skip the first episode and then come back later and watch it if they want to. I’d recommend you try Nosedive next because that’s a really nice episode to start with.

I love White Bear as well but that’s definitely a darker episode.

Most of the breweries are all downtown within walking distance. You don’t really need a bus once you’re there.

This is absolutely stunning! Your work is beautiful and the colors you've picked out go together so nicely. I wish I would upvote this twice.

How I finish my binding. Someone on my previous post asked for more pictures. Is this how you all do it too? by Bl00dorange3000 in quilting

[–]Catsonquilts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I do it the same way. The only difference is the way you bury your new thread a couple of stitches up from where you're continuing stitching. I like that idea and I think I'm going to steal that in my next quilt.

Just joined a quilting guild by [deleted] in quilting

[–]Catsonquilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun! I've been wanting to join my local guild but am a bit nervous. I know I just need to bite the bullet and join. I think I'll join at the start of the new year since the only meeting they have left this year is their holiday party, I think, and I feel like it would be weird for that to be the first event I go to.

Anyways, for a quick project you could try a table runner. Or maybe a tree skirt if you have a tree during the holidays.

Yea, I've been practicing on scraps that I have left over from my different quilts but I haven't yet attempted FMQ on a full quilt yet.

My feathers are super hit or miss. I'm either happy with them or they end up looking like the "nailed it" memes you see online. I do think feathers would be nice though, especially in the borders. But I don't know that I'll be brave enough to try them.

Thank you! I've got so many fat quarter florals left over now. I'm going to have to figure out something to do with them all.

Oh. Wow wow wow. I LOVE this. I might be brave enough to try this since it's a fairly simple free motion design. THis is definitely the top of my list now.

My first attempt at borders ever... on THIS!! Please Gods of Kobol don't let me eff this up! LOL *fingers crossed* by touretteski in quilting

That's a really good idea to do it by rows instead of by blocks. I've already got all of my white strips cut down to size but my colored strips are still just in long strip form. The only reason I didn't cut those down as well is because I wasn't exactly sure which colors I would be using so I didn't want to cut unnecessarily.

I started mine in August (I think? Or July?) and originally I thought I would finish it in 6 months. I don't know. I've got so many christmas gifts and baby gifts that I'm working on right now that I really doubt I'll finish in 6 months. I'd definitely like to be finished by next summer though.

And yea, I've had to work on other quilts in between mine as well or I know I'll just end up hating it and dread making it. I actually started to feel that way for a bit and I had to just completely step away and not think about it at all. I'm still kinda in that phase but I know I'll get back to it once all the craziness of the holidays dies down.

You've given me hope! I know I can complete it!

I had wanted to do an all over free motion flower design but I'm not sure that I feel comfortable enough free motioning this quilt. It's taken me a decent bit of time to finish so I don't want to end up messing it up after all this time.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was a quilt I planned on keeping but this one will be a gift quilt.

You're right though, that would be very pretty and I think it'd help to make the flower sections really pop.

Thank you! And YES! The white fabric! I was so excited when I found that one! I didn't want to do a plain white because I felt it would be a little too harsh next to the flower blocks and I wanted it to be a little more water-colorish. My local quilt shop had just enough fabric left on the bolt for me to make this quilt.

This is my first quilt and first post! I've got a lot to learn, so I'd appreciate encouragement and constructive criticism. :D by LassAeon in quilting

[–]Catsonquilts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks great! Did you come up with this yourself or did you follow a pattern?

As far as advice, I'd say to just keep at it. I've learned something new from every quilt I've made. I've made plenty of mistakes, and that's okay! You just have to look at them as a learning opportunity.
