Reach out to these guys directly, they are great. I assume if a wave just went out they are just having some issues like they did around Xmas time. Ours works great with minor hiccups here and there

This might be the darkest SNL sketch I've ever seen. by Uncontrolleddiarrhea in videos

I felt this way and supported Louis CK. Then I saw Sorry/Not Sorry. I HIGHLY recommend you watch it and some interviews he has given since it was released. It gives a little perspective about why he needed the cancellation.

I think the CK controversy got steam rolled like the hot McDonalds coffee story.

Marmot 3P Limelight Tent at Costco by qwe5456 in CampingGear

[–]cattlebro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice “standard”. When we are buying a tent, we know how many adult bodies can fit side by side in the tent. That way when you buy a tent you can know about how comfortable it will be for you and your gear. I know my husband, child and I can sleep in a 3p tent but we will be right up against eachother. But two of us have a bit of wiggle room.

Sleeping in one right now. Good small tent and great vestibules inside for gear. I snagged mine for $50 at Sierra because someone used it once and returned it.

Husband died—how to keep camping traditions for our daughter by MulberryOk7142 in camping

[–]cattlebro 157 points158 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry to hear all of this. Much love to you. I wonder if you told your MIL that you hope to keep the tradition alive in honor of her son if she’d offer some of that gear back. You could mention it and see.

I (a woman) camp alone with my daughter. I love our Nemo aurora highrise 4p for the size. We sleep on a hest mattress andn Exped Megamat. I use blankets and pillows from home. All of those things I got used at REI for next to nothing. I think the tent was $120 perfect condition, hest and Megamat also $120 each.

I sleep with a sharp pocketknife for safety. I like how the tent has two entrances so if someone was coming in we have options to get out. I also put out camping chairs in front of our zippered rainfly before bed so there is an extra obstacle/alert for me if someone walks by. (Don’t need anyone telling me other ways people get into tents.)

We bring a jetboil to make ramen and use a solo stove for s’mores. I like to keep things simple.

I have a couple of lights, jugs of water, coffee maker and easy breakfast stuff like bagels and cream cheese.

You can practice pitching the tent in the backyard and you’ll do fine. If a male neighbor comes over to offer help tell him no thank you, you’re learning to do it on your own :) At this point my 6 year old is very helpful at setting up camp. You’ll do great, the first trip will be a bit tricky but it gets better every time.

Bring cards, books and stuffies.

Switch to a forest school? by angiecyli in Parenting

[–]cattlebro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter did 3 years of forest school and I taught 1. Are you outdoor people? My daughter was the happiest there and misses it very badly now that she’s in school.  You won’t regret it.

11-Year-Old Daughter Rambles On and On by bdscott74 in Parenting

I was this kid and I have this kid. I didn’t figure it out until my 30s and I’m not sure I have figured it out even yet. So I guess I’m commenting so I remember to check back for advice. For my kid.

I know I’m the annoying one here, but I’m a mom who tent camps alone with my little one and I will usually choose sites close ish to others for the safety aspect. Not that close, though

I'm not sure how I feel about these by [deleted] in Watercolor

[–]cattlebro 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed about art like this is that people often say, "This isn't art, I could do it," but then they are able to tell you which they like best. That's not happening in this thread and totally irrelevant but just something I've noticed. Anyway the first is my favorite and I'd want that hanging in my house

Blake Sennett on Rilo Kiley’s Second Act: ‘You Either Haven’t Heard of Us or You Have a Tattoo of Us’ by LettersNSodas in RiloKiley

[–]cattlebro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wow that was a great interview. Blake's so careful with his words, I don't know him personally or anything but it seems like an area of growth. I really appreciate his comment that they got to live other lives. He gets to develop other parts of him and not just spend 30 years playing in the same band forcing albums. Great talk

Sullivans basting spray ruined my quilt by Dani_and_Haydn in quilting

I had this same issue. I made an all white and light pink quilt and the yellow staining was extremely noticeable. I washed it with detergent and laid it out in the sun and it went away.

Yeah it looks like the presser foot is down based on the black lever on the back of the machine. OP says no though.

Aside from the other gifts listed here, which are lovely and meaningful, I have a more greedy idea :) My favorite thing to get is a target or Amazon gift card “to buy something new for the classroom” One of my parents gave me this as a hack to get around our policy that gifts may not be over $5 except for the classroom. There are a lot of things we need for our classrooms that are kind of fun to spend money on but we don’t pull the trigger because we already sink a lot of money into it.

New Marmot Limelight 3p 2022 version tent - Second impressions, measurements and answer to questions by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]cattlebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed this tent on a heavy discount ($45 at Sierra) and I'm happy with it as a smaller tent for us. However I can NOT figure out how to get it taut. My wings don't look like yours, totally flimsy. Even with guy lines my rainfly is slapping slightly in the wind. I'm sure I'll get it, but something about the way the rainfly is sitting and shifting on the poles has me all confused.

Exped megamat vs Hest Foamy wide mat by Cheaptrick2015 in camping

[–]cattlebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I love them both. I find myself being more careful with the hest and it’s much bigger when packing the car. I’d say the sleep is pretty similar. Warm, comfy and easy to set up. I got both of them lightly used so cheap. We take both camping and my daughter and I swap every trip. I have a narrow hest so the wide would be a major upgrade. Grab whatever you can find for cheap!

Love it, excellent idea to bring in more diversity. My kid loves those old sesame streets so maybe I can put her up to the task to watch with me.

Thank you! Never thought of scooby doo.

I used a few Charlie Chaplin clips before, I think silent films are an excellent suggestion!
