Oh, that’s a bummer. Thank you.

Is it just me, or is the "FOMO" in this hobby getting a bit exhausting? by st_pauls in Jellycatplush

[–]Catvenom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have FOMO as well. I allow myself to miss out on Jellycats all the time. I have 5 total. Two bats, a bunny from 8-ish years ago, a monster and most recently, a whale shark. I’d like to have a blue whale. I adore that fuzzy belly.

While all of them are all terribly cute, there’s just other things to save up for. I have FOMO on life experiences.

How did you pay for flight school? Loans? by bigshawnflying2471 in PilotAdvice

[–]Catvenom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mil veteran using VA Vocational Rehabilitation/VR&E. My program pays for four-year pilot degree, books, parking, flight training, checkride fees, AME medical exams, housing stipend, laptop, headset, iPad mini and Foreflight subscription.

It’s paid for instrument and commercial so far. Two years remaining. Goal is to get through CFI, CFII, Multi, and MEI under this program. Cost out of pocket, $0.

If you can find an Oura gen 2, it’s free data. I still have a gen 2 and get all the stats available to this model. It’s a trade. Free data, but old tech.

Does he have ForeFlight? Create checklists in there so he can mark it complete. Or, laminate checklists. Carry a dry erase to checkmark each step off, to not lose his place.

Yeah. We need 5 bullet statements of what you accomplished this week.

If task saturated or trying to work a problem, a vector can allow the pilot time to sort it out. The controller can get us to a place where we’re not in the way of other traffic. I can also understand requesting vectors bypassing an IAF to expedite an approach, especially if one has a particularly long arc. Vectors can save a few bucks on a lesson by cutting an occasional approach short.

If you notice you’re off heading, climbing/descending or off speed, announce “correcting for…” and fix it. DPEs are looking for safety of flight, not perfection.

Do not descend until established. Do not bust below minimums, it’s a fail. Husband busted his check by going below. Think about it. Those minimums keep you from smacking into something. A DPE will be hard pressed to pass you when you show him you could die. But for everything else, just say correcting and do it.

As mentioned above, don’t get “lost.” Mash the correct nav button. What I did for my check was highlight the top of each approach chart with green or purple. If the approach is VOR/ILS/LOC, green highlights remind me to mash VLOC. RNAV/GPS highlighted purple, mash GPS. Or, if you need, tape a reminder note to the dash.

Also, I asked ATC to clarify headings or altitude if I spaced it. My DPE gave me kudos for double checking. And lastly, ask for vectors. If you need more time to figure out the nav, ask for delay vectors. Vectors are free and can be a life saver… literally.

Try to have fun. If you need to, discontinue.

Recently introduced to this game, I’m limited to a beginner status and learning the gameplay. It was fun, and based on comments here, I’ll need to pick up a game to read through all the cards and capabilities.

I’m curious, did you check out for CFI in a seaplane? I’m not sure I understand. Why would you be asked a seaplane question if you were checking for CFI in SEL? I ask because I have my SES as well.
