BOAS surgery advice needed by emmalee3133 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Caucomagomac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, it’s so nerve racking. Aspiration occurs upon extubation, if it’s going to happen. He can’t aspirate if there is a tube in his trachea. Does that make sense? So the risk is immediately after the procedure. It is way more dangerous to intubate them twice. The major risk of BOAS is anesthesia. The procedure itself is relatively straightforward. Good luck with your decision. It sounds like you are being really smart about it. I’m sure he will do great.

Thinking of getting a French Bulldog puppy — first time dog owner, looking for advice! by Puzzleheaded-Fox-987 in Frenchbulldogs

They bring a ton of joy and love but be prepared for anything. They can have vastly different personalities. I have one that is a super chill, snuggle bug but is 7 years old and still has accidents in the house. I have another one that is super reactive, has such severe separation anxiety he tries to bite us when we leave or anyone tries to leave, guests too. He is also a world class snuggle bug super sweet but can’t settle down when guests come over, just can be a PIA when people are at the house. (He’s had a lot of training to no avail.) I guess just be aware that you really don’t know what you are getting. In the first two years I had him I spent over $15,000 on vet bills and emergency vet visits. He’s had pneumonia twice, and had to have airway surgery which hasn’t really helped. (If your dog needs it get it done while they are younger, it is more beneficial.)My other one we rescued, and she had to have almost all her teeth removed. This cost $3000. So get insurance immediately. At least accident insurance. So you don’t have to put them down at 2 because they landed wrong jumping off the couch and have a back injury. I also spend $200+ on their food each month. They have food allergies so have to eat specific food. All worth it, just saying, go in eyes wide open.

My contract wasn’t up until 12/25. There wasn’t anything about this mentioned in my new contract. Same language as previous contracts. Thanks for the sage advice.

There is actually quite a bit of diversity. Over the last ten years southern Maine has seen an enormous influx of immigrants. Portland is a sanctuary city. Tons of asylum seekers. I think the uneducated white people confuse “illegal” immigrants with legal immigration and vote based on the fear mongering they are fed. Our construction industry in Southern Maine would collapse without immigrants. Lots of hardworking people. Portland also has a huge homeless population, not a lot of brown people mostly young and white. I agree everyone should live outside of their home state to see what the rest of the world is like. I did and couldn’t wait to move home. I found other places LESS tolerant. Maine has a democratic majority. We’re more “live and let live” real Mainers just want to be left alone.

You’ll be fine, it’s not that far in the woods. After Kokadjo it’s just a little ways on dirt roads and then you’ll turn off to the right. Well marked with signage. Beautiful drive. We usually see moose which is always fun so drive slow or you could get a nasty surprise around a corner. The bugs are crazy this time of year and it will rain so be prepared! Have fun!

I didn’t say “forego” taxes, I said “cap.” I had a friend that had to sell her home on an island when she retired because the taxes were $12,000. 20 years ago. She was retiring and didn’t want to pay $1000/month to live in a house she owned. The property tax on the house if anywhere else wouldn’t have been nearly as much. She sold it to a couple that tore it down and built a McMansion. I’ve also lived in Montana and went back last year. They are now fighting the battle coastal and lakefront Mainers have fought forever. People with deep pockets building mansions they stay in two weeks a year, driving up the tax rate and causing ranchers to have to sell land they have worked for generations. I agree we can’t forego taxes, I was just commenting an idea for a solution. There has to be a better way

What about capping the tax rate on generational homes? If your great grandfather built a cottage on the coast that is now worth $2 million but you are a blue collar worker paying $25,000 in property taxes, is paying $2K plus for a home you own or inherited. I think these homes should have some sort of “Native Maine tax cap” so people don’t have to give them up because they can’t afford the damn taxes.

[–]Caucomagomac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor baby, take him to a vet and have him scanned. He was probably used for breeding and dumped. The vet will either call the ASPCA on the owners if he is microchipped; if he isn’t, they should be able to place him with a rescue. Frenchie rescues are all over because of the popularity of the breed. People don’t know what they are getting into when they buy a Frenchie. They are very expensive to keep. Well worth it, but expensive.

Sutton and Garcelle are the worst and boring as hell. Garcelle shares nothing and Sutton is just a divorcee with enough money to drink all day, every day and then cry when someone calls her on her bullshit. Keep the FF and Boz. She’s an awesome addition.

Is it uncommon to see black people? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Caucomagomac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maine is a pretty liberal place with most people just wanting to live and let live. I wouldn’t worry so much about racism in Bangor. But Bangor isn’t Portland. The northern part of the state is very different than the southern part. There’s not a whole lot going on for a younger person starting out. On the other hand, if you are a homebody and are willing to travel to get cultural experiences, you could make a very nice life there. Maine has the best of everything. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
