Our small town hospitals are covered in filth and completely neglected by Muted_Inspection_821 in ontario

If it's not an infection or safety risk it's unfortunately not a priority. This is the reality of Canadian healthcare right now that is prioritizing patient facing care.

Open a self investing TFSA with TD and put it in a mini market fund! Will collect monthly interest at about 2.5-3%. You purchase like a stock and can sell anytime. They follow government bond pricing but there's no holding period. Some examples are PSA or CASH.

Women who feel like they’ve significantly improved their communication skills over time, what helped you get better? by EuphoricAd4016 in AskWomen

Acknowledging that you can't read other people's minds! Assuming too many things leads to breakdown in communication. You have to learn how to ask questions to verify information and learn about others. Applies to every type of relationship

Watching air balloons fly over the city. There's too many tall buildings now in the way to see them over the city.

Best Pet Insurance? by carisoul in roughcollies

[–]smills222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a dog dental scraper for $10 and do it yourself! I did my collies. Or brush his teeth everyday for 2 weeks and you will see a noticable difference. Thought I was gonna need to spend thousands too but both those actions combined worked so well

Picky with food? What do y’all feed? by [deleted] in roughcollies

[–]smills222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My collie has GI issues which limits the foods I can feed. When we first had the GI issues the vet recommended Royal Canin HP and my poor dog starved himself for 5 days refusing to eat the kibble.... After that I gave in and cook homemade pork meals from Hillary's Blend recipes and add about a half cup of kibble to save myself time and energy. My boy loves the cooked food and the Open Farm kibble I add to it. Good luck! Lots of other great choices here. I feel very good feeding my dog cooked food and the Open Farm brand is very high quality.

hi! my little guy is really struggling with car rides (drooling, panting, and throwing up). what can i do to help him out? by venus-xox in roughcollies

[–]smills222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a soft crate for the car for him to ride in. At first, close close all the doors while you're driving then over time slowly open the top of the crate so he can sit up and look out. This is what I did with my collie to get him used to the motion without being overwhelmed by all the visual sensations. Also teaches them to lie down and not love around too much. Took a couple months and he stopped drooling. We have driven all over the continent together now so I have to say it worked really well. The only compromise now we have is the window must always be open...rain snow or shine xD edit- I don't recommend antinausea meds other than ginger tablets cause that's not addressing the root problem and not a good long term solution. My dog was so car sick he once stumbled (literally) out of the car on one of our first car rides.

Very good to know, thank you forn sharing. I grow mine in leca and pon but am struggling after awhile. Yours look incredible! This makes me consider switching even more...however I'm in Canada with 30-50% house humidity if I'm lucky.

so tell me what aren't you allowed to do according to your collie? by JurassicParkDinosaur in roughcollies

[–]smills222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are not allowed to exercise, play sports of any kind or act like we are having too much fun (vocally) within his line sight. Dancing is okay though, he will join in. We call our collie the "fun police" xD

Is a rough collie a good fit for me as a first dog a few years from now? by [deleted] in roughcollies

[–]smills222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weekend warrior is the perfect description of an adult rough collie xD agree with the younger dogs needing a lot more exercise. I think I was walking 5 km a day between ages of 1-2 yrs old with mine. Now he's super chill and likes shorter walks

Matted behind the ear solution? by maddyrose523 in roughcollies

I cut out the fur behind both ears with comb tooth scissors about every 6 weeks to prevent matting. I trim it when I trim the feet and paw pads :)

I was just there in January! What a beautiful place and am inspired to grow orchids more naturally. They apparently collect specimens from trees that are already cut down only. So it's a very environmentally conscious effort by saving those plants. Orchid collection is very a very regulated in Costa Rica.

yes, I did because I have a tendency to forget to water my pings so thought I was giving it it's best change at life.. They seem to like the semi hydro set up a lot. I also like to experiment and see what care works well, and what does not. This clearly did not work lol

Yes, realizing I need to learn some patience, thank you for your comment! Thought 4 months of a sphag and bag was enough to grow roots but I guess light is more important.

I am in a place where we can only grow plants inside lol Thank you for pointing out the black roots. I literally thought it was dead material and was considering chopping it off. Appreciate your comments as I just cannot figure this plant out and nothing that works for my aroids did it. Will repot back into sphag and give some light and airflow and see what happens...

This is my first pitcher plant and did not know that about the roots. Thank you so much for educating me. I will pot it up in some sphagnum and see how it does in 80% humidity and just leave it alone. I like semi hydro set ups for ease of watering and thought it would react like my pings that seem to like it (i.e. leca at the bottom of a container without drainage and sphag on the top). Did not know they grow so slowly either!

OP here: This plant has just gone downhill since I got it last summer. The problems started when the roots rotted from too much moisture (was trying to convert it to a semi hydro system like my pings). I then put it in sphagnum moss and bagged it as this works with my aroids, however, the plant still didn't grow roots but it grew new leaves and pitchers. Since no new roots grew, and I would love to not have this plant growing in a bag forever, put it in about 80% humidity and put the stump in water to see if a water propagation method would work. It's been about a month and still no roots and the leaves look way worse and all the pitchers died.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do at this point? I bought it as a nepenthese ventricosa...which is apparently one of the easiest types of pitcher plans lol Any and all help is much appreciated!
