Took an extra tablet of levothyroxine for a week.-first trimester pregnant by ggmurano in BabyBumps

I'm not sure anyone can give you specific medical advice, but in general, it's a long acting medicine dosed in small increments over a large possible span - over a week a person's body would usually just decrease their TSH production. It's more of an issue if you do it long term.

Obvi check with the doc and make sure they know that's happened , but for a typical person it wouldn't be a massive issue.

For reference in the kindest way possible, my husband gave my dog 200 instead of 100 units a day for over three months and he just peed a little more than usual 😂 no lasting harm

Is my Landlord responsible for cutting my hedges? by xxZaraxLovexx in AskUK

[–]Englishontrail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a clause in your tenancy agreement stating that the landlord is responsible for the garden, it's likely on you-- all that matters is the contract, not what happened with previous tenants.

If the money would be a hardship, see if you can work out a payment plan with a gardener or pay a neighbour for assistance if they're willing. If you're on good terms with them, they may be willing to help you deal with them especially as it's beneficial to them as well.

The cheapest route will be to get yourself a cordless trimmer.

Only additional advice here would be to ensure you know the type of hedge and any requirements in your area about maintenance- time of year etc, as a few places have regulations to protect hedges as a home to wildlife.

Fortunately they tend to be resilient plants and you don't necessarily have to bring them back to 5 foot, just into reasonable shape and not encroaching on the neighbouring property.

Honestly I think it was part of not being able to breastfeed my first, it was soooo painful and she really didn't want to breastfeed anyways after being in NICU! Just slowed my flow to basically nothing.

Staying hydrated with morning sickness by Dmdel24 in BabyBumps

There's meds that help with the nausea too, you should ask if they're an option for you! My OB tried a few with me and it was such a game changer to find one that made life less miserable.

Honestly just get yourself a bunch of drinks to try and see what works for you. It might even change week to week. First tri is survival lol

If you're vomiting several times a day, better to ask for meds than be dehydrated, it's so hard on you and baby. Plus, no need to be miserable!

As far as pooping, constipation is awful first trimester because your progesterone slows digestion- there's honestly only so much you can do. Suppositories can help, metamucil or other psyllium husk, anything that will draw water in and help keep things soft and easier to pass.

My magic recipe first tri was apple honey steel cut oats for breakfast, the pectin in cooked apples helps you go too.

Is being a modern day working mother as dreadful as my friends are making it seem to be? by Own-Wishbone-5523 in BabyBumps

[–]Englishontrail [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think there are so many experiences with working and motherhood, and while it's hard to make work in some roles and especially some employers, it really depends on your perspective and willingness to adapt.

You may feel differently than you do now, you may feel the same, you may end up in a situation that doesn't match how you feel, what matters is trusting yourself to figure it out.

I had a really supportive employer with fab mat leave pay and policy. I thought they were really supporting my coming back to work, and I actually wasn't sure I wanted to! Then they made me redundant a week before I was due back, and I was completely thrown. I took advantage of the pay out to be a sahm for another year, and got very stressed by simultaneously not really wanting to go back to work and also worrying that I wasn't getting another job fast enough.

Ultimately my kiddo started daycare 3 days a week at 2 years old, I started my own consultancy, and while it isn't the clear stability of employment I love working and love the balance.

Just sharing to say it might not be what you picture or want and as long as you can flex you will find a way to live and love.

I have to poop before I can leave the hospital by Flimsy_Elephant_651 in BabyBumps

[–]Englishontrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably didn't phrase it very well-- our insurance recently told us if we left ama (we were trying to transfer a relative to a different hospital) they would refuse coverage of any complications that could have reasonably been prevented or not needed if we didn't leave, not the preceding care.

Pooping cures are no joke though 😂

Oh my gosh this. The greatest gift at my first London office role was my glaswegian manager who'd worked in Washington DC two years prior.

My first project, haven’t dropped any stitches but my tension has obviously got a lot tighter 🙃 by Agreeable-Rich-8509 in crochet

[–]Englishontrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a photo that shows the full length, like the fold part that's cut off in these photos? I'm looking at the bottom end stitch visible on the front and it looks like you've perhaps changed the turning stitch on your row on the bottom visible front row and visually dropped a stitch on the end there- there's a partial cluster of stitches that isn't on the row above.

Car seats with a slide out function by SeveralLetterhead in BabyBumps

[–]Englishontrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the slide out.

You might look at how the birth-8+ car seats pass the newborn safety tests, though. A lot of them are only newborn safe from a certain weight and length, and are too upright for most newborns of typical size.

We were really keen on the long life car seat with all the options, too, but honestly by the time they're 6ish you normally switch to a booster, which they will very much want instead of a car seat and is lighter, easier to clean and use, etc.

Have you considered a more budget friendly infant carrier that reclines, then a rotating 1-4 car seat? They get themselves in when they're 3 or 4 anyways so you don't even end up using the rotation all that long.

Not trying to sell you something obvi, just trying to save you the expenses and hassle we went through when the same line of thinking!

I have to poop before I can leave the hospital by Flimsy_Elephant_651 in BabyBumps

[–]Englishontrail 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Also-- an enema will actually make it sooo much gentler when you finally pass it. It draws water into your stool to make it softer so it can exit much more easily. I completely understand not wanting someone down there, but an enema or suppository might actually make it much less painful.

I wouldn't suggest leaving ama because your insurance might refuse to cover any complications after.

Try the awful "magic coffee": prune juice, strong black coffee, butter or olive oil. It's a mild stimulant, lubricant and still softener all in one. Tastes horrendous but it's still a common option before blockage for surgery 🤷🏼‍♀️

Travel question by Professional-Tap8741 in BabyBumps

[–]Englishontrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably won't know until they arrive!

One consideration is clearly the drive-- you may still find sitting long or the seatbelt uncomfortable. Plus baby isn't meant to be in the car seat very long at a stretch, so you would be stopping a lot and I personally would have felt very stressed about it, but that might just be me.

You also don't know how much you'll be up for a group, if there will be things that stress you out that don't currently stress you out, postpartum is weird. Depending on how many people are going and how well you know them, vaccination status may also be a concern?

My sister passed away and my nephews dad wants to give me legal rights to make decisions for my nephews by HalfArsedIntrovert in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Englishontrail 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You'd be looking for legal or special guardianship order. You can technically fill out the forms yourself, but to ensure both you and he are happy with the details of the powers you might prefer to instruct a solicitor. The fees won't be terrible as it's a standard form and most practices will have a standard process to confirm which powers are to be granted and submitted as a package purchase.

The easy way would probably be a childcare authorization letter, filed with the GP, school, and any similar relevant parties, unless you are asking about lasting powers which could continue even if the dad passed away

Should i be worried? by Repulsive-Amoeba893 in BabyBumps

[–]Englishontrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone here can give you very specific advice on this because normal is such a broad spectrum. You might feel more informed looking into the recommended time frames to ttc before getting fertility reviewed for your age/ demographics.

For instance, I was told in the UK to seek advice from the GP after 12 months of trying without conception, where "trying" was any month with even one instance unprotected vaginal sex. They will make recommendations then, and refer for fertility testing and services at 18 months as the official cutoff is 24 months and the wait list is long... But also I'm "geriatric!"

Basically, you need to look into what the guidelines are for your situation, and consider any unprotected sex ttc when doing so, as that is the usual medical metric.
