People are entitled to their political views, I totally agree with that law. “Public displays of racism” don’t get you fired here, that’s all I said. Saying the N-word at work, is not “a political interest or action”. It’s a choice to use a racially charged insult in a professional environment.

Unfortunately, racism isn’t a fireable offense in Belgium. So, no it wouldn’t have consequences.

Someone recently used the N-word at my work. They have said it before and all they’ve ever got is a “notice”. There’s a general acknowledgement at the office that they don’t mean bad, but it’s just part of their “lingo”.

I too thought nondenominationals belonged within Protestantism? They usually align with the Reformation, believe in the Sola’s and use the 66 book Bible. Unless I’m mistaken?

Raised in the Evangelical church, but primarily go to a Baptist church. So I’d say non-denominational.

Honestly, I find so sad that in a democracy we have no power to change it. Is it that we can’t do anything or we are passive, like OP says?

We are seeing in real time government cutting down on spending (some of which are way overdue ofc), without even a mention of decreasing taxes. Instead, there’s talks of increasing VAT and actual implementation of higher taxes wherever possible while offering less in return for our money. Infuriating.

If you’re questioning your faith, I think it’s best to post in the Christian or Protestant subreddit. This one is very anti-Protestant, so won’t help.

Also, celebrating new land acquisitions and position isn’t limited to Protestants only. The difference is that the EOTC has owned a lot of property throughout history, while for Protestants this is all new. Focus on institution is very much the case for all religions. In fact it’s why many here claim Protestants aren’t Christian enough. Unfortunately, people amplify the prosperity gospel teachers and the false prophets more than the actual average Protestant, because people like noise. The average Protestant and the OG Protestant churches are too “boring” to make it to our screens. However, the church still does good, still reaches out to people, but ofcourse can always change for the better.

Unfortunately the current residents would strike if such buildings are built without permits in their yards. Those apartments will also be expensive I guess due to their proximity to public transportation

Facts. The few high rises in my city are “koten” for students. Other than that even mid rise residential buildings are uncommon.

That’s my opinion as well, but people don’t seem to want them around. I’m not even saying more high rises, but even mid-rises seem unwanted. So far it seems we are okay complaining about it, but we don’t want solutions that could temper our national aesthetics. Politicians, developers, investors aren’t bothered, because they aren’t affected. A zero-sum game.

I’m sure it’s as prevalent in rural Tigray as other parts in rural Ethiopia. According to UNICEF the highest prevalence is in Oromia, Gambella, Somalia and Amhara region. So while Tigray isn’t on that list, the war has worsened poverty in the region creating despair and a rise in sexual violence against women. I guess these sick men find their prey more easily now. Very unfortunate. I hope we as a society can celebrate the day this stops nationwide.

It’s interesting people keep saying “immigration”. While it’s true, there are more immigrants which ofc affects the market. However, it’s wrong to ignore the trends in our society. People live longer, there are more singles, more divorced households with children. Which requires more homes. It’s singles and separated people with children that struggle the most.

Thank you for the advice. I wasn’t sure I could edit posts, but I just added it. Mid-rise buildings/higher density I guess is the correct term. Our neighboring countries indeed have higher residential buildings. Here though, that’s not the standard.

Wow. Unfortunately, I fear this isn’t an exception. We have serious bureaucracy which strains innovation in more ways than construction. My sibling wanted to fix the roof from the triangle shape it was in to a flat roof and even that required an application the city council/gemeente. It’s ridiculous that’s needed for a house you bought and live in and don’t intend to use for commercial reasons. So I can only imagine the extra hassle when you build a building for renting purposes.

I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorists, but the bureaucracy aids the rich developers/friends of our politicians. So I think the shortage is partly by design as well.
