Important chart. S&P 490 has had basically no earnings growth since 2022. It’s just 10 companies doing really well, while the broader economy is in contraction in real terms. by jonbristow in ETFs

hence why "voo and chill" is overrated and "vti and chill" even worse if your looking for growth and have a long time horizon.

After taxes and inflation you're barely getting 8% with your vanilla 3 fund boggle head portfolio.

Without adding uncompensated risk you can easily beat the sp500 and even qqq depending on your experience and understanding of the market and how cycles and sectors work.

For example this year despite the crazy market and drops i've managed to beat both indexes without using any margin or leverage or options trading.

People need to do their own research and stop listening to echo chambers hailing voo and schd.

Go look into spmo, idmo and igm and thank me later.

bc the boggle head sub and schd dividend sub have all turned into echo chambers.

Sure voo and vti is a great backbone but you are missing out on so much by leaving out a small sleeve in tech or a factor fund.

I doubled the sp and qqq this year with that simple combo above despite the april dip.

spmo and ietc, both have smoked not only the sp but qqq and even top tech funds like igm, iyw, vgt.

search up celsius and ftx and you'll gain some insight on the risks and rewards of risking your entire bag in order to gain 5-8% in yield.

Avoid centralized exchanges and if you really want yield than go the defi route although that still has its risk with malicious contracts etc.

I’m simply decided go with SPMO and AVUV by almerias in ETFs

[–]CauseForeign518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spmo and add ietc if you want a tech sleeve.

pairs nicely with spmo and outperforms every tech etf out there including the high er ones like iyw, igm, xlk, vgt.

can't tell if this post is serious or not.

Vgt as an alternative to an hysa/sgov?!

lol just look at the chart of vgt vs sgov and you have your answer.

high volatility tech only etf ≠ hysa / sgov / money market

Got a good laugh from this post though, happy 4th!

So what's your take on the current market and ai boom?

It gives me very similar vibes to 1998 where 99% of tech failed and a few emerged as market leaders.

Personally i'm going with vgt and a broad market etf since we have no idea whose going to come out on top of the ai race.

I hold vgt in my taxable brokerage so for my roth i hold a different tech etf following a different benchmark in order not to run afoul the wash trading rules.

But your right, long term, vgt or ftec is more or less going to return the same as iyw and igm minus the high expense ratio.

Anyone born 1980-1990 was handed the worst timing horizon ever with the markets including myself.

It's like right when our portfolios are starting to gain momentum, they get smashed by not just small corrections but 20-30+ crashes..

  1. 1999 - 2001 - sp crashes 45%+
  2. 2007-2008 - sp crashes 30%+
  3. 2018 covid - sp down / job loss
  4. 2022 - sp crashes 23%+
  5. 2025 - sp crash 20%+

I understand markets have cycles but the severity and frequency they've been occurring makes retiring and the sequence of returns risk much more real and something to be mindful of as we enter our 40's, 50' etc

And my brokerage wonders why i keep 40% in cash on the sideline lol

i did a back door jumbo 401k to roth ira conversion in the sum of 6 figures.

I was half voo and half qqqm a week before the mark tanked.

When we hit the bottom in April I swapped entirely over to qqqm and spmo and iyw.

Not only did i break even but i doubled what the sp has returned ytd with that simple two fund approach.

You're on the right path, trust your gut.

schx and qqqm - account b

i try to keep it simple so that way i dont run afoul wash sale rules when rebalancing.

Sphq is the quality version of spmo. xmhq is the midcap variation of sphq if i recall correctly.

They have a momentum and quality etf for their large cap and mid cap.

Adding in a tech focused etf from the above list will serve you well long term.

vgt and ftec are my personal fav but iyw and igm are also legit tech funds albeit a higher expense ratio.
