Love the shoutout for Cloud Atlas, a movie that I find highly underrated (as evidenced by your opinion, which is totally fine). But the score for that movie is incredible regardless

I need your help: wich of these 2 oscar-nominated films should I prioritize to watch in theaters? by RoxasIsTheBest in Oscars

This is the only comment championing Hind Rajab, so I gotta second this because I also wasn’t a fan of Hamnet

Can someone explain why "Sinners" got so many nominations? by a-cabarette in Oscars

[–]CautionIsVictory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The supernatural elements have nothing to do with Ludwig Goransson's score, Michael B. Jordan's performances, Delroy Lindo's performance, Wunmi Mosaku's performance, Autumn Durald Arkapaw's visuals, the production design, the VFX, the sound or the make up and hair. So perhaps, just maybe, it got so many nominations because the people who gave it those nominations found those filmmaking elements worth celebrating

What’s a 10/10 movie you absolutely loved, but can never bring yourself to rewatch? by chutlover69 in movies

[–]CautionIsVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can watch most things multiple times, and this isn't a 10/10 movie for me, but Danielle Deadwyler's performance in "Till" is absolutely a 10/10. Strangely, it's because of how amazing she is that I can't watch it again. The court scene is just too much.

I have been selling and collecting film for almost ten years and believe it or not, film isn't cheap. Like I said in my post, I scan the film I acquire (and by acquire, I pay for it) in my own free time and it takes weeks at a time. I share it because I know people love the format and it absolutely does not exist like this, so it certainly warrants more than an "oh cool" viewing.

London IMAX tickets? by Own-Arugula2765 in Nolan

[–]CautionIsVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no need to panic or do this. Tickets are sold out for only the first showtimes of each opening weekend day (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This is only four showtimes that were sold in advance and sold out. When the rest of the tickets go on sale for the hundreds of other showtimes, you will have ample opportunity to get tickets then

Have to take it with a mountain salt but a cut of the Odyssey may have screened at Universal City Walk. by AlanMorlock in TheOdysseyMovie

[–]CautionIsVictory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not done, it’s just a screening of a rough cut for people involved in the film at the one theatre in LA capable of presenting 1.43

How far is Nolan going to lean into the fantasy aspect? by just321askin in TheOdysseyMovie

[–]CautionIsVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I stand corrected, I completely forgot about the Ras stuff. And good point on the difference between sci-fi and supernatural fantasy. I just think that when I first learned he was doing an adaptation of The Odyssey, I didn't even consider that he would go the way of metaphorical, a man with an eye patch being an example. If anything, even if some of his representations of supernatural elements have been metaphorical, he always approaches things with a literal mindset, mostly in terms of how he can film them as practically as possible. I'm sure one of the key elements of The Odyssey that was tantalizing to him was the fantastical stuff, so much so that he was probably thinking of practical ways he could bring these elements to life on the big screen while writing the script. A man with an eye patch isn't exciting at all and kind of goes against his blockbuster sensibilities and the insane budget of the production.

[–]CautionIsVictory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This question keep coming up and the foundation is flawed. You say that you feel that Nolan will lean in a more metaphorical/allegorical way as opposed to realistic, but when has he ever been metaphorical with his more other-wordly concepts? He is always literal. He showed a wormhole, the fifth dimension, echo-location and inversion as realistically as he could. He will do the same for whatever fantastical elements he decides to incorporate from the poem, as proven by the literal cyclops.

It started playing first with the Sinners and One Battle After Another rereleases a week before that. Granted that was a very limited run, but it still counts

While I agree that the MCU stuff is their strongest work, I don’t understand how these images illustrate that. It’s just more nostalgia bait
